MCEO STRIKES DEAL WITH EMPLOYEE GROUP JKB 10/22/10

  • AFTER NEARLY 3 MONTHS OF NEGOTIATIONS, THE MENDOCINO COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE MENDOCINO COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEES.

THE AGREEMENT INCLUDES A 10% WAGE CUT FOR EMPLOYEES IN THE BARGAINING GROUP RETROACTIVE FROM OCTOBER 1ST 2010 THROUGH SEPTEMBER OF 2011 AT A COST SAVINGS TO THE COUNTY ESTIMATED AT $54,000. THE DEAL ALSO INCLUDES A NEW REDUCED BENEFIT RETIREMENT TIER FOR NEW HIRES. SUPERVISOR CARRE BROWN COMMENDED THE EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION BARGAINING TEAM FOR THEIR PROFESSIONALISM THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS SAYING THEIR WILLINGNESS TO COME TO TERMS ON THE WAGE CONCESSIONS WAS APPRECIATED.

ASSETS SEIZED DURING POT RAID RETURNED JKB 10/22/10

  • THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT SEIZED MORE THAN $29,000 WORTH OF CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE ON WEDNESDAY, AFTER A MONTH LONG INVESTIGATION.

26 YEAR OLD STEPHEN POPPE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR THE RED AND WHITE MARKET JUST AFTER 11 AM. HE WAS FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF A SMALL AMOUNT OF METH, AND MORE THAN $2,800 IN CASH. A SEARCH OF HIS HOME YIELDED 298 GRAMS OF CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE, SEVERAL SCALES, AND A LOADED .45 CALIBER SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN. DEPUTIES ALSO FOUND 22 YEAR OLD JERRICA ALVAREZ OF HOPLAND UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. POPPE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON A NUMBER OF DRUG CHARGES. HE IS BEING HELD ON $100,000 BAIL.

POT SMELL LEADS TO POT BUST JKB 10/22/10

  • NEIGHBORS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE STRONG ODOR OF RIPENING MARIJUANA COMING FROM A HOME ON RICHEY ROAD, LEAD TO THE ARREST OF A UKIAH MAN ON CULTIVATION CHARGES MONDAY.

DEPUTIES CONTACTED THE HOMES OCCUPANT, 47 YEAR OLD CLINT JACKSON AT AROUND 4:30 PM WHILE FOLLOWING UP ON THE COMPLAINT. HE ADMITTED TO GROWING MARIJUANA AND ALLOWED DEPUTIES TO EXAMINE HIS CROP. POLICE FOUND APPROXIMATELY 100 MARIJUANA PLANTS BEING GROWN BOTH INDOORS AND OUTDOORS, NEARLY 28 POUNDS OF PROCESSED MARIJUANA PACKAGED FOR SALE AND A SCALE. JACKSON WAS ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF POSSESSION AND CULTIVATION OF MARIJUANA FOR SALE. HE WAS RELEASED AFTER POSTING $25,000 BAIL.

GRAPE GROWERS RUSHING TO GET CROP IN JKB 10/22/10

  • NORTH COAST GRAPE GROWERS ARE RACING AGAINST THE WEATHER TO HARVEST THE LATE RIPENING GRAPE CROP BEFORE THE RAINS COME THIS WEEKEND.

NOW GROWERS ARE RACING TO GET HARVEST COMPLETE BEFORE THE WEEKENDS RAIN DOES EVEN MORE DAMAGE. ANALYSTS ESTIMATE ABOUT 70% OF THE HARVEST WILL BE COMPLETE BY THE END OF TODAY.

RENT STABILIZATION ORDINANCE PASSES JKB 10/22/10

POOLS TO BE FIXED JKB 10/22/10

· THE CITY OF UKIAH POOLS AT TODD GROVE PARK WILL GET FIXED THANKS TO THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL VOTING TO ALLOW THE CITY TO LOAN ITSELF $148,000 FROM THE PARK DEVELOPMENT FEES TO PAY FOR REPAIRS.

THE CITY PLANS TO USE THE LOAN AND JUST OVER $42,300 IN PARK DEVELOPMENT MONEY PLUS A MATCHING STATE GRANT TO RENOVATE THE TWO POOLS. CITY OFFICIALS ARE HOPING REPAIRS CAN BEGIN BY FEBRUARY 2011. THE STATE GRANT STIPULATES THAT ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER OF NEXT YEAR.
