CHARGES MAY BE FILED TODAY IN BABYS DEATH JKB 11/22/10

  • MARIN COUNTY PROSECUTORS ARE EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY IF THEY WILL FILE CHARGES IN THE CASE OF A FORT BRAGG WOMAN WHO ADMITTED TO INJECTING HEROIN BEFORE FALLING ASLEEP AND ROLLING OVER ON TO HER 9 WEEK OLD BABY, SUFFOCATING HER LAST YEAR.

23 YEAR OLD MELISSA LAMBERT WAS STAYING IN A MARIN COUNTY HOMELESS SHELTER WHEN SHE FELL ASLEEP WHILE NURSING THE CHILD. METHAMPHETAMINE WAS FOUND IN THE INFANTS BLOOD STREAM, MOST LIKELY FROM HER MOTHERS BREAST MILK, BUT WAS NOT LINKED TO THE CAUSE OF DEATH. MARIN COUNTY OFFICIALS WERE STILL INVESTIGATING THE CASE WHEN THEY LOST TRACK OF LAMBERT WHEN SHE MOVED TO FORT BRAGG. LAMBERT TURNED HERSELF INTO POLICE LAST WEEK SAYING SHE WANTED TO TELL THE REAL STORY OF HOW HER DAUGHTER DIED. PROSECUTORS SAY THEY ARE CONSIDERING CHARGING LAMBERT WITH INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER AND POSSIBLY OTHER CHARGES. SHE IS BEING HELD IN THE MARIN COUNTY JAIL.

CRAB FISHERMAN SEVERS FINGERS JKB 11/22/10

  • THE COAST GUARD WAS CALLED IN TO HELP AN OREGON MAN WHO SEVERED THE TIPS OF TWO FINGERS WHILE WORKING ON A CRAB BOAT OFF BODEGA BAY ON FRIDAY.

ACCORDING TO COAST GUARD OFFICIALS, THE UNIDENTIFIED MAN IN HIS LATE 40S WAS PULLING THE LAST CRAB POTS OF THE DAY INTO THE BOAT WHEN HIS FINGERS WERE CAUGHT IN A CABLE PULLEY SYSTEM CALLED A CRAB BLOCK. THE ACCIDENT SEVERED THE TIPS OF HIS TWO MIDDLE FINGERS. CREW MEMBERS SAVED THE SEVERED DIGITS ON ICE AND THE FISHERMAN WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO PALM DRIVE HOSPITAL IN SEBASTOPOL AFTER BEING BROUGHT TO SHORE.

  • NOT AS MUCH SNOW FELL AS ANTICIPATED OVER THE WEEKEND, BUT WEATHER IS STILL GOING TO BE A CONCERN THIS WEEK.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MENDOCINO COUNTY FOR ELEVATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET, THAT WILL GO INTO EFFECT AT 3 THIS AFTERNOON AND REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL TOMORROW MORNING, AND FREEZE WATCH THAT GO INTO EFFECT TUESDAY EVENING AND CONTINUE UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING. IN LAKE COUNTY A WINTER STORM WARNING WILL GO INTO EFFECT AT 6 TONIGHT AND CONTINUE UNTIL 8 TUESDAY MORNING. A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW IS EXPECTED IN ALL AREAS OF BOTH COUNTIES OVER THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS. AS ALWAYS, AUTHORITIES ARE ADVISING MOTORISTS TO BE PREPARED FOR EXTREME WINTER WEATHER DRIVING CONDITIONS

3 COLLISIONS, 3 DUIS JKB 11/22/10

  • 3 TRAFFIC COLLISIONS, 3 DUIS IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS.

THAT WAS THE CASE FOR CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS WHO MADE THREE ARRESTS FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE IN 3 SEPARATE CAR CRASHES BETWEEN 10:30 SATURDAY NIGHT AND 1:15 SUNDAY MORNING. THE FIRST SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH OCCURRED AT THE INTERSECTION OF 32ND AND BOYLES AVENUES. 27 YEAR OLD JACK BROWN OF CLEARLAKE WAS ARRESTED FOR MISDEMEANOR DUI. THE 2ND ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT 12:10 AM WHEN 40 YEAR OLD KIMBERLY RATCLIFFE OF CLEARLAKE DROVE HER PICK UP OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A DITCH AT THE INTERSECTION OF 36TH AND PHILLIPS AVENUES. SHE BECAME COMBATIVE WITH ARRESTING OFFICERS AND WAS CHARGED WITH FELONY RESISTING ARREST IN ADDITION DO DUI. THE 3RD ACCIDENT AND ARREST OCCURRED JUST AFTER 1 AM WHEN 29 YEAR OLD EFRAIN ALVAREZ OF LAKEPORT COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY 53 JUST NORTH OF 18TH AVENUE. POLICE THERE WERE INJURIES TO PARTIES ON BOTH VEHICLES, BUT NO DETAILS WERE RELEASED. ALVAREZ WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL FOR FELONY DUI.

FIRE CAUSED BY RAIN JKB 11/22/10

  • WATER LEAKING INTO AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET WAS THE CAUSE OF A FIRE THAT DAMAGED A MOBILE HOME IN LUCERNE SATURDAY NIGHT.

THE FIRE WAS REPORTED AT A RESIDENCE AT THE LUCERNE ON THE LAKE MOBILE HOME PARK JUST BEFORE 11 PM. ACCORDING TO FIRE INVESTIGATORS, THE WATER CAUSED A SHORT IN THE OUTLET, WHICH THEN THREW SPARKS ONTO A NEARBY MATTRESS. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. DAMAGES WERE ESTIMATED AT AROUND $500.

DRUG BUST JKB 11/22/10

  • A WILLITS MAN WAS ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP ON FRIDAY.

DEPUTIES ON PATROL NEAR HOLLY STREET AND POPULAR AVENUE KNEW 33 YEAR OLD TODD HULBERT HAD A SUSPENDED LICENSE WHEN THEY SAW HIM DRIVE BY SHORTLY BEFORE 1 PM. A SEARCH OF HIS VEHICLE TURNED UP 5.8 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE PACKAGED FOR SALE, AND A METH PIPE. HE WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL.

CLOTHING THEFT JKB 11/22/10

  • A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER TRADING HIS USED CLOTHING FOR NEW AT KOHLS DEPARTMENT STORE LAST WEEK.

25 YEAR OLD ZYLER RIDLEY WAS REPORTEDLY SEEN CRAWLING ON HIS HANDS AND KNEES THROUGH THE CLOTHING RACKS JUST BEFORE 1 PM WEDNESDAY. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, RIDLEY TOOK A SHIRT, SWEATER, PAIR OF PANTS AND A BELT, WHILE LEAVING HIS OLD CLOTHING BEHIND, AND THEN LEFT THE STORY WITHOUT PAYING. HE FLED WHEN CONFRONTED BY STORE EMPLOYEES AND WAS LATER ARRESTED BY POLICE IN THE 300 BLOCK OF NORTH STATE STREET STILL WEARING THE STOLEN ITEMS. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL FOR BURGLARY AND THEFT.

JOAN BAEZ FALLS OUT OF TREEHOUSE JKB 11/22/10

  • 1960S SINGER SONGWRITER JOAH BAEZ WAS INJURED WHEN SHE FELL OUT TREE HOUSE AT HER HOME IN WOODSIDE LAST WEDNESDAY.

THE 69 YEAR OLD BAEZ WAS CLIMBING DOWN FROM THE TREE HOUSE WHEN SHE FELL APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET TO THE GROUND. SHE SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM STANFORD HOSPITAL.
