SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATE IN LAKE COUNTY JKB 2/18/11

A LOT OF ICE AND SNOW STILL ON THE ROADS IN LAKE COUNTY AND THAT HAS LED TO SOME SCHOOL CLOSURES.

  • KELSEYVILLE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CLOSED.
  • KONOCTI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CLOSED
  • LAKE COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL AND ASPIRE ARE CLOSED
  • COBB ELEMENTARY IS CLOSED, BUT ALL OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE MIDDLETOWN AREA ARE ON A 2 HOUR DELAY TO CLEAR WALKWAYS OF ICE AND TO ASSESS CONDITIONS.

PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY BECAUSE OF THE ICE AND SNOW NEAR THE SCHOOLS.

STORMS AFTERMATH JKB 2/18/11

  • THERE ARE STILL SOME ROADS TIED UP THIS MORNING AFTER YESTERDAYS SNOW STORM.

IN LAKE COUNTY, HIGHWAY 29 BETWEEN BRADFORD AND ST HELENA IS CLOSED. ALSO, HIGHWAY 175, CHAINS ARE REQUIRED. UP TO 28 INCHES OF SNOW FELL IN SOME PARTS OF LAKE COUNTY, CLOSING SCHOOLS, NUMEROUS ROADS, DOWNING POWER AND PHONE LINES AND TOPPLING TREES. THE CHP RECORDED MORE THAN 100 TRAFFIC IMPACTING INCIDENTS, AND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WERE OVERWHELMED AT THE NUMBER OF CALLS FOR ASSISTANCE. THE STORMS KNOCKED OUT POWER TO AN ESTIMATED 16,000 LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS. THE SNOW LEVEL IN LAKE COUNTY WILL HOVER RIGHT AROUND THE 2000 FOOT MARK TODAY, BUT LITTLE OR NO SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED.

CRAB FISHERMAN DIES JKB 2/18/11

  • A SACRAMENTO MAN DIED AFTER HIS BOAT CAPSIZED IN BODEGA BAY WHILE FISHING FOR CRAB ON THURSDAY.

THE BODY OF 65 YEAR OLD MANUAL SILVA SILVEIRA WAS RECOVERED JUST BEFORE 5 PM NEAR PINNACLE GULCH BEACH. INVESTIGATORS SAY SILVEIRA HAD LAUNCHED HIS 15 FOOT FIBERGLASS BOAT FROM THE HARBOR DESPITE WARNINGS OF ROUGH AND WINDY CONDITIONS ON THE WATER. WAVES WERE ESTIMATED AT BETWEEN 12 AND 15 FEET WITH WINDS BETWEEN 25 AND 30 KNOTTS. HIS SMALL BOAT SWAMPED AND CAPSIZED NEAR THE SURF LINE, AND HE DIED, DESPITE WEARING A LIFE JACKET. THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED.

SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT SOUGHT JKB 2/18/11

  • SANTA ROSA POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THE SUSPECT IN A SEXUAL ASSAULT THAT ALLEGEDLY OCCURRED IN THE 300 BLOCK OF STONY POINT ROAD TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

ACCORDING TO THE 19 YEAR OLD VICTIM, A MASKED MAN DRESSED ALL IN BLACK, FORCED HIS WAY INTO THE RESIDENCE AT AROUND 1 PM AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A MALE ADULT, 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL WITH A MEDIUM ATHLETIC BUILD. HE WAS WEARING A BLACK SKI MASK, BLACK LONG SLEEVED SHIRT, BLACK GLOVES, BLACK JEANS AND BLACK SHOES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE SANTA ROSA POLICE DEPARTMENT.

MORE GANG ARRESTS IN FORT BRAGG JKB 2/18/11

  • THE FORT BRAGG POLICE DEPARTMENT MADE MORE ARRESTS YESTERDAY IN A CRACK DOWN FOLLOWING A WEEK OF INCREASED GANG ACTIVITY AND VIOLENCE THAT OCCURRED IN THE WAKE OF GANG RELATED BRAWL IN LATE JANUARY.

POLICE ARRESTED 6 JUVENILES FOR VARIOUS PROBATION VIOLATIONS YESTERDAY. SOME OF THE ARRESTS WERE MADE BASED ON INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE INVESTIGATION INTO SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF GANG VIOLENCE LAST WEEK. AUTHORITIES SAW A SPIKE IN SUCH VIOLENCE FOLLOWING A FIGHT BETWEEN RIVAL GANGS IN WHICH A FORT BRAGG WOMAN WAS ARRESTED FOR ATTACKING ANOTHER WITH A HATCHET. THE FORT BRAGG POLICE IS ASKING RESIDENTS TO REPORT SUSPECTED GANG ACTIVITY SO THEY CAN ADDRESS AND INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENTS.

DUI HIT AND RUN ARREST JKB 2/18/11

  • A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER A WITNESS SAW HIM HIT A PARKED CAR WHILE DRIVING ON SOUTH OAK STREET WEDNESDAY EVENING.

THE WITNESS FOLLOWED THE SUSPECTS CAR WHILE CALLING POLICE AT AROUND 7 PM, BUT LOST SIGHT OF IT NEAR SCOTT STREET. A RESPONDING UKIAH POLICE OFFICER SPOTTED AND STOPPED THE SUSPECT VEHICLE HEADING THE WRONG WAY ON THE ONE WAY WEST SMITH STREET. 30 YEAR OLD DAVID BOLOGNA WAS ARRESTED FOR DUI, HIT AND RUN AND POSSESSION OF A SWITCHBLADE KNIFE. A 24 FEMALE PASSENGER IN HIS CAR WAS ALSO ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION.
