MEN FOUND AFTER SEARCH JKB 3/22/11

  • TWO MEN WHO BECAME STRANDED IN THE SNOW IN THEIR CAR SATURDAY NIGHT ON ELK MOUNTAIN ROAD ABOVE UPPER LAKE WERE RESCUED LATE SUNDAY EVENING, AFTER A 13 HOUR SEARCH EFFORT.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, 34 YEAR OLD AMBROSIO MALDONALDO OF RIPON AND 60 YEAR OLD GILBERTO SAN MIGUEL OF MODESTO HAD BEEN VISITING STEVE BETTENCOURT IN LAKE PILLSBURY JUST PRIOR TO BECOMING STUCK IN THE SNOW ON THEIR WAY HOME AT AROUND 4 PM. THEY PHONED BETTENCOURT AND TOLD HIM THEY WERE GOING TO REMAIN WITH THEIR VEHICLE OVERNIGHT AND ATTEMPT TO WALK OUT IN THE MORNING, BUT THE WEATHER PREVENTED THEM FROM DOING SO. BETTENCOURT CALLED FOR HELP AT 11 AM SUNDAY AND A SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION WAS LAUNCHED. USING A BULLDOZER AND SNOW CAT, RESCUERS REACHED THE MEN JUST BEFORE 10 PM SUNDAY. BOTH MEN WERE COLD AND HUNGRY BUT OTHERWISE UNHARMED.

MAN KILLED BY FALLING TREE IN NAPA JKB 3/22/11

  • A VALLEJO MAN WAS KILLED WHEN HIS CAR WAS CRUSHED BY A FALLING TREE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 12 IN NAPA LATE SATURDAY.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, 46 YEAR OLD ALEXANDER NAGLAL WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND WHEN THE LARGE OAK TREE, BATTERED BY HEAVY RAINS AND HIGH WINDS DURING SATURDAYS STORM, TOPPLED OVER AND FELL ON HIS CHEVY SUBURBAN AT AROUND 10:20 PM. THE TREE STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON IMPACT AND NAGLAL WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THE ACCIDENT SHUT DOWN TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY 12 FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS.

E-QUAKE JKB 3/22/11

  • THE UKIAH VALLEY WAS SHAKEN BY A 3.4 MAGNITUDE EARTH QUAKE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 1:42 PM AND WAS CENTERED 11 MILES WEST OF UKIAH. ALTHOUGH WIDELY FELT, THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF DAMAGE OR INJURIES.

CLEAR LAKE TO FLOOD JKB 3/22/11

  • RESIDENTS ALONG THE SHORES OF CLEAR LAKE ARE BRACING FOR A FLOOD LATER THIS WEEK.

THE LAKE IS EXPECTED TO REACH FLOOD STAGE, 9 FEET ON THE RUMSEY SCALE, BY WEDNESDAY, AND CREST AT 9.5 FEET RUMSEY ON FRIDAY. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, AREAS IN NORTH LAKEPORT AND CLEARLAKE WILL BE SUBJECT TO FLOODING. STRUCTURES ALONG THE SHORELINE AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS ARE EXPECTED TO BE IMPACTED BY WATER AS THE LAKE REACHES ITS HIGHEST MARK. LAKESIDE RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO BE PREPARED WITH SAND BAGS, OTHER EMERGENCY SUPPLIES INCASE OF ELECTRICAL OUTAGES, AND SHOULD TAKE STEPS TO SECURE BOATS AND MOVEABLE DOCKS.

3 ARRESTED FOR BAR RUCKUS JKB 3/22/11

  • 3 MEN WERE ARRESTED AFTER LEADING POLICE ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE FOLLOWING A DISTURBANCE AT DICKS PLACE BAR IN MENDOCINO ON ST PATRICKS DAY.

23 YEAR OLD JAUN ESTRELLA, 27 YEAR OLD NESTOR SANCHEZ, AND 22 YEAR OLD WILTON CRUZ, ALL OF FORT BRAGG, ALLEGEDLY STARTED FIGHTS, THREATENED A BARTENDER AND REFUSED TO LEAVE THE BAR WHEN ASKED. THEY EVENTUALLY LEFT THE SCENE AFTER POLICE WERE CALLED. RESPONDING DEPUTIES SPOTTED THE SUSPECT VEHICLE HEADING NORTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 1 AT LANSING STREET, AND ATTEMPTED TO PULL IT OVER. THE VEHICLE, DRIVEN BY ESTRELLA SPED AWAY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 80 MILES AN HOUR. DEPUTIES USED A HIGH RISK VEHICLE STOP MANEUVER TO BRING THE CHASE TO AN END AND ALL 3 MEN WERE ARRESTED. ALL WERE BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL FOR MAKING CRIMINAL THREATS, THREATENING PEACE OFFICERS, AND GANG ENHANCEMENTS.

TEACHER SENTENCED FOR EXPLICIT TEXT MESSAGES JKB 3/22/11

  • A FORMER SUBSTITUTE TEACHER AT NAPA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL WAS SENTENCED TO 3 MONTHS IN JAIL AND 3 YEARS PROBATION YESTERDAY FOR SENDING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT TEXT MESSAGES AND A PHOTO TO A TEENAGE STUDENT.

41 YEAR OLD LINDA VASS WAS ARRESTED IN NOVEMBER AFTER POLICE WERE NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENTS. SHE PLEADED NO CONTEST IN JANUARY TO DISTRIBUTING LEWD MATERIAL TO A MINOR. UNDER THE TERMS OF HER PLEA BARGAIN AGREEMENT, VASS WILL CONTINUE WITH ONGOING THERAPY AND WILL NOT HAVE TO REGISTER A SEX OFFENDER.
