WINE MAKER DEATH INVESTIGATION JKB 4/25/11

  • CAL-OSHA OFFICIALS ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF AN ASSISTANT WINEMAKER AT THE ANCIEN WINERY IN NAPA LAST WEEK.

ACCORDING TO POLICE, 43 YEAR OLD CELLAR MANAGER GUSTAVO MURO DIED WHILE APPARENTLY TRANSFERRING WINE FROM A 6 FOOT TANK INTO A LARGER 1500 GALLON TANK WEDNESDAY EVENING. ACCORDING TO AN INITIAL INVESTIGATION, MURO DID NOT DROWN. AN AUTOPSY WAS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTACKING POLICE JKB 4/25/11

  • TWO FORT BRAGG POLICE OFFICERS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AFTER BEING ATTACKED BY A SUSPECT FRIDAY.

THE OFFICERS WERE CONDUCTING A SECURITY CHECK AT BAINBRIDGE PARK AT AROUND 9:20 AM WHEN THEY ENCOUNTERED 29 YEAR OLD LANCE SCHOLFIELD OF FORT BRAGG. SCHOLFIELD ALLEGEDLY HIT THE OFFICERS WITH HIS FISTS AND HEAD. THE OFFICERS WERE TREATED AT MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL AND RELEASED. SCHOLFIELD WAS TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES AND THEN TRANSPORTED TO THE COUNTY JAIL WHERE HE WAS BOOKED ON CHARGES OF BATTERY, BATTERY AGAINST A POLICE OFFICER AND OBSTRUCTING AND RESISTING OFFICERS.

MISSING MAN FOUND JKB 4/25/11

  • AN ELDERLY HEALDSBURG MAN WHO SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA, SPARKED A 5 HOUR SEARCH EFFORT AFTER HE WANDERED AWAY FROM A RELATIVES HOME ON FRIDAY.

THE FAMILY OF 84 YEAR OLD DELBERT PEARL CALLED POLICE AT AROUND 7:30 PM WHEN THEY NOTICED HE WAS MISSING FROM THEIR HOME ON BILLINGTON LANE. PEAL WAS FOUND JUST BEFORE 1 AM ABOUT A HALF MILE AWAY, WHEN RESIDENTS AT A HOME ON GABRIELLE DRIVE WOKE UP TO FIND A MAN THEY DID NOT KNOW, LATER IDENTIFIED AS PEARL, WATCHING TV IN THE LIVING ROOM. PEARL WAS DISORIENTED BUT UNINJURED AND SOON REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY.

E-QUAKE AT GEYSERS JKB 4/25/11

  • THE GEYSERS WERE RATTLED BY A 3.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE ON SATURDAY, THE 10TH QUAKE 3.0 OR LARGER TO STRIKE THAT AREA SINCE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.

THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 12:42 PM AND WAS CENTERED 2 MILES NORTH-NORTH EAST OF THE STEAM FIELDS. IT WAS FOLLOWED BY A DOZEN AFTERSHOCKS, INCLUDING 3 MEASURING 2.2, 2.2, AND 2.3 IN MAGNITUDE.

OPIUM INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARRESTS JKB 4/25/11

  • AN INVESTIGATION INTO A SHIPMENT OF SHOVELS LOADED WITH OPIUM HAS LED TO THE ARREST OF 4 PEOPLE IN CRESCENT CITY, INCLUDING ONE MAN ACCUSED OF HAVING AN ARRANGED RELATIONSHIP WITH AN UNDERAGE GIRL.

AGENTS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY INTERCEPTED THE SHOVELS LAST WEEK, WHICH WERE FOUND TO CONTAIN ALMOST 3 POUNDS OF OPIUM. THAT LED TO DEL NORTE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES SERVING A SEARCH WARRANT ON THE HOME THE SHOVELS WERE EN-ROUTE TO. THERE POLICE FOUND 127 POUNDS OF PROCESSED MARIJUANA, 102 MARIJUANA PLANTS, 16 GUNS, MORE THAN $32,000 IN CASH AND SEVERAL WELFARE CHECKS. 4 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED, INCLUDING ONE MAN SUSPECTED OF CHILD MOLESTATION OF HIS ALLEGED ARRANGED RELATIONSHIP WITH A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL. AUTHORITIES SAY MORE ARRESTS ARE EXPECTED.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT AT JAIL JKB 4/25/11

  • QUICK ACTION BY MENDOCINO COUNTY CORRECTIONS OFFICERS SAVED THE LIFE OF A JAIL INMATE WHO TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE THURSDAY NIGHT.

A CORRECTIONS DEPUTY DOING CELL CHECKS CAUGHT THE 29 YEAR OLD MALE INMATE IN THE PROCESS OF A SUICIDE ATTEMPT AT AROUND 9:21 PM. HE FOUND THAT THE INMATE HAD NO PULSE AND WAS NOT BREATHING AND BEGAN LIFE SAVING EFFORTS IMMEDIATELY. THE INMATE DID HAVE A PULSE AND WAS BREATHING AGAIN BY THE TIME PARAMEDICS ARRIVED MOMENTS LATER. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER, BEFORE BEING AIRLIFTED TO ST. HELENA HOSPITAL. THE INMATES NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

PRISON SENTENCE FOR HIT & RUN DEATH JKB 4/25/11

  • A KELSEYVILLE MAN CONVICTED IN THE HIT AND RUN DEATH OF A WELL KNOWN LAKE COUNTY RESTAURATEUR WAS SENTENCED TO 4 YEARS IN STATE PRISON ON FRIDAY.

31 YEAR OLD JAMES NIGHTINGALE WAS SENTENCED TO THE UPPER TERM, IN PART BECAUSE OF PAST DRIVING OFFENSES, INCLUDING DUI AND DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE. Nightingale PLEADED NO CONTEST TO felony hit-and-run resulting in death or great bodily injury, misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended license in connection with THE ACCIDENT on Sept. 24, 2010, in which he hit 57-year-old Zino Mezoui WHILE HE WAS RIDING HIS MOTORCYCLE at the intersection of Siegler Canyon Road and Highway 29.

gun threats jkb 4/25/11

  • a boonville man was arrested after threatening two other men with a loaded shotgun friday evening.

according to witnesses, 39 year old carlos sanchez had been drinking alcohol for most of the day and was angry for unknown reasons. at one point, he retrieved a loaded 12 gauge shot gun from his mini van and pointed at two men, ages 21 and 30, and threatened to shoot them. deputies were called to the scene just after 7:30 pm. sanchez placed the shotgun back into his mini van before deputies arrived. he was arrested without incident and booked into the county jail for assault with a deadly weapon. he is being held on $30,000 bail.
