MISSING LOCAL WINEMAKERS PLANE FOUND JKB 5/23/11

  • THE SINGLE ENGINE PLANE OF A WELL KNOWN LOCAL AREA WINEMAKER WHO WENT MISSING LAST WEEK, WAS FOUND BY SEARCH CREWS IN RUGGED SNOW COVERED TERRAIN JUST SOUTH OF BEAR RIVER RESERVOIR IN AMADOR COUNTY LATE THURSDAY.

78 YEAR OLD ROBERT BUDGE BROWN, THE OWNER OF CLEAVAGE CREEK CELLARS IN NAPA, AND TULIP HILL WINERY IN NICE WAS REPORTED MISSING WHEN HIS PLANE DISAPPEARED FROM RADAR AT AROUND 4 PM ON WEDNESDAY. OFFICIALS SAY A BODY WAS RECOVERED FROM THE WRECKAGE. A POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION IS PENDING.

7 RESCUED ON TOMALES BAY JKB 5/23/11

  • 7 PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT WEARING LIFE JACKETS WERE RESCUED AFTER THEIR 12 FOOT ALUMINUM BOAT CAPSIZED IN ROUGH WATERS ON TOMALES BAY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

A SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFFS HELICOPTER TRANSPORTED THE 7 BACK TO SHORE AFTER THEY HAD BEEN STRANDED ON A SUBMERGED SANDBAR AT AROUND 1 PM. NO ONE WAS INJURED.

TWO MEN FISHING NEAR THE MOUTH OF BODEGA BAY HARBOR WERE ABLE TO SAVE THEMSELVES AND SWIM TO SHORE AFTER THEIR BOAT CAPSIZED ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM SHORE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. BOTH FISHERMEN WERE WEARING LIFE JACKETS.

E-QUAKE JKB 5/23/11

  • A 3.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE SHOOK AN AREA BETWEEN UKIAH AND LAKEPORT EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING.

THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 1:53 AM AND WAS CENTERED 6 MILES WEST OF LAKEPORT AND 10 MILES SOUTH EAST OF UKIAH. THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF DAMAGE OR INJURIES.

POT AND MONEY SEIZED JKB 5/23/11

  • 3 MEN FROM 3 DIFFERENT STATES WERE ARRESTED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PURCHASE A LARGE AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA FROM A COVELO MAN IN UKIAH ON THURSDAY.

POLICE SEIZED MORE THAN $100,000 IN CASH AND 20 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA FROM A ROOM AT THE COMFORT INN AND SUITES ON AIRPORT PARK BOULEVARD. 34 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY CURTIS OF COVELO WAS ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION AND SALES OF MARIJUANA. THE OTHER THREE MEN FROM ILLINOIS, WISCONSIN AND MINNESOTA, WERE ALSO ARRESTED.

SCHOOL BUS CRASH ARREST JKB 5/23/11

  • A WOMAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER SHE CRASHED INTO A SCHOOL BUS WITH CHILDREN ABOARD THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

57 YEAR OLD SANDRA JEAN BURNETT WAS DETERMINED TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WHEN SHE ALLOWED HER CAR TO DRIFT OVER THE CENTERLINE WHILE DRIVING ON KELSEY CREEK DRIVE AT AROUND 2:40 PM. THE DRIVER OF THE BUS, 39 YEAR OLD SHAWN DALE ROGERS, LESSENED THE IMPACT BY SLOWING DOWN AND TAKING EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID THE COLLISION. BURNETT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND 4 CHILDREN COMPLAINED OF PAIN, BUT NO ONE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.

ELDERLY MAN SAVED AFTER CAR GOES IN LAKE JKB 5/23/11

  • AN ELDERLY MAN IN HIS LATE 70S WAS SAVED BY A WOMAN WHO SAW HIS CAR CRASH INTO CLEAR LAKE ON FRIDAY.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, THE MAN WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 20 WHEN HE REPORTEDLY FELL ASLEEP AND DRIFTED OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE LAKE AT AROUND 5:30 PM. A WOMAN WHO WITNESSED THE EVENT DOVE INTO THE WATER AND RESCUED HIM. NO OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE INCIDENT HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

UKIAH SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATIONS JKB 5/23/11

  • UKIAH TEACHERS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS APPARENTLY DO NOT SEE EYE TO EYE WHEN IT COMES TO SUPERINTENDENT LOIS NASH.

THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNANIMOUSLY GAVE NASH A POSITIVE EVALUATION, DESPITE AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF UKIAH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION MEMBERS WHO RESPONDED TO A SURVEY REPORTED THAT THEY DONT HAVE CONFIDENCE IN NASH AS SUPERINTENDENT. MORE THAN 87% OF THE SURVEY RESPONDENTS AGREED THAT NASHS CONTRACT SHOULD BE TERMINATED AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. ACCORDING TO TRUSTEE OFFICIALS, THE BOARD EVALUATED NASH BASED ON EXPECTATIONS SET BY THE BOARD ALONE. NASH SAID SHE BELIEVED THE QUESTIONS IN THE SURVEY WERE LEADING AND PURPOSELY SOLICITED NEGATIVE RESPONSES.

ATV VS CAR ACCIDENT JKB 5/23/11

  • A CLEARLAKE MAN SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES WHEN HE RODE HIS 3 WHEELED ATV INTO THE SIDE OF A CAR ON THURSDAY.

44 YEAR OLD LAURENCE MENDES WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON HIS ATV WHEN HE RAN A STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION OF OAK AND 6TH STREETS AT AROUND 5 PM. HE COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF A CAR DRIVEN BY 22 YEAR OLD BRUCE WELLS OF CLEARLAKE. MENDES, WHO WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET, WAS EJECTED FROM THE ATV. HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL OUT OF THE COUNTY FOR TREATMENT OF SEVERE HEAD INJURIES.

8 ARRESTED IN SEX OFFENDER SWEEP JKB 5/23/11

  • 8 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED DURING A 2 DAY SEX OFFENDER SWEEP IN MENDOCINO COUNTY LAST WEEK.

DEPUTIES CONDUCTED THE SWEEP LAST WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY TO MAKE SURE THE OFFENDERS WERE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THEIR PROBATION AND PAROLE. 8 MEN WERE ARRESTED FOR A NUMBER OF VIOLATIONS, BUT ONLY ONE WAS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED TO PROPERLY REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER.
