MISSING GIRL COULD BE IN LAKE COUNTY JKB 5/25/11

  • AUTHORITIES BELIEVE A 3 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO WAS ABDUCTED FROM HER MOTHERS HOME IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO LAKE COUNTY.

AVA RIGGLE WAS LAST SEEN ON MAY 6TH AT HER MOTHERS HOME OUTSIDE VICTORVILLE. INVESTIGATORS SUSPECT SHE WAS TAKEN BY HER FATHER, 22 YEAR OLD NICOLAS RIGGLE AND AN ADULT FEMALE. HE WAS SEEN IN LAKE COUNTY IN MARCH AND MAY HAVE RETURNED WITH THE CHILD. HE WAS LAST SEEN DRIVING A 1989 FORD COACHMEN MOTOR HOME WITH CALIFORNIA LICENSE PLATE NUMBER OF 2PWF894. AVA WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 50 POUNDS AND HAS LIGHT BROWN HAIR AND BROWN EYES. NICOLAS RIGGLE IS DESCRIBED AS BEING 6 FEET TALL, 150 POUNDS WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLUE EYES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHILD, THE FATHER, OR MOTOR HOME IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

TOUR BUS CRASH JKB 5/25/11

  • 13 PEOPLE SUFFERED MINOR TO MODERATE INJURIES WHEN A TOUR BUS CRASHED NEAR FAIRFIELD MONDAY.

THE DRIVER SAID SHE WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES BEFORE DRIVING OFF INTERSTATE 80 WHILE RETURNING TO SAN FRANCISCO FROM SACRAMENTO. THE BUS WAS CARRYING 49 PASSENGERS. THE INJURED WERE TAKEN TO LOCAL AREA HOSPITALS, TREATED AND RELEASED.
MENTAL EVALUATION ORDERED FOR WOMAN JKB 5/25/11

  • CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS AGAINST A SANTA ROSA WOMAN WHO IS ACCUSED OF FALSELY REPORTING THAT SHE WAS RAPED BY A POLICE OFFICER HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL SHE CAN UNDERGO A MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATION.

PROSECUTORS SAY 24 YEAR OLD DANIELLE CHARTER LIED ABOUT A NUMBER OF ASSAULTS SHE CLAIMED TOOK PLACE AFTER SHE WAS ARRESTED ON NOVEMBER 30TH 2009. AN INVESTIGATION DETERMINED HER CLAIMS OF RAPE TO BE BASELESS AFTER NOTING THE TRIP FROM HER HOME WHERE SHE WAS ARRESTED TO THE COUNTY JAIL TOOK ONLY 7 MINUTES.

FRANK S. PETERSON DIES JKB 5/25/11

  • FORMER JUDGE, DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND STATE SENATOR FRANK S. PETERSEN HAS DIED.

PETERSON PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME IN FORT BRAGG ON MONDAY. PETERSEN GRADUATED FROM FORT BRAGG HIGH SCHOOL IN 1940, SERVED IN THE NAVY DURING WORLD WAR II AND BEGAN PRACTICING LAW IN UKIAH IN 1952. HE BEGAN WORKING FOR THE MENDOCINO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE IN 1954 AND WAS APPOINTED D.A. 6 YEARS LATER. HE WAS ELECTED AS A STATE SENATOR IN 1962. WHILE STILL SERVING IN THE LEGISLATURE, PETERSEN WAS APPOINTED TO THE SUPERIOR COURT WHERE HE SERVED AS JUDGE FOR 22 YEARS, PRESIDING IN 18 COUNTIES. HE RETIRED IN 1988 AND RESUMED PRACTICING LAW IN 1990. HE RETURNED TO THE BENCH IN 1993 AND WORKED UNTIL JUST A FEW YEARS AGO. HE WAS 88.

POTTER VALLEY RODEO TO GO ON AS PLANNED JKB 5/25/11

  • THE 65TH ANNUAL POTTER VALLEY RODEO WILL TAKE PLACE THIS YEAR, DESPITE CONCERNS OVER THE OUTBREAK OF A DEADLY EQUINE HERPES VIRUS.

18 CASES OF THE VIRUS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED IN 12 COUNTIES STATEWIDE. ALL OF THE CASES HAVE OCCURRED AMONG CUTTING HORSES, MOST OF WHICH ATTENDED THE NATIONAL CUTTING HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN OGDEN UTAH AT THE END OF APRIL. THE DECISION TO GO FORWARD WITH THE EVENT WAS MADE AFTER POTTER VALLEY RODEO BOARD MEMBERS MONITORED THE PROGRESSION OF THE OUTBREAK AND CONSULTED WITH LOCAL VETERINARIANS.

KEYSSAR TO HOLD EVENTS IN UKIAH JKB 5/25/11

  • NOTED AUTHOR, REGISTERED NURSE AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE MENDOCINO COALITION FOR COMPASSIONATE CARE JUDITH REDWING KEYSSAR WILL HOLD TWO EVENTS IN UKIAH DEALING WITH THE JOURNEY FROM BIRTH TO DEATH.

THE FIRST EVENT, A WORKSHOP, IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY JUNE 3RD FROM 9 AM TO 4:30 PM AT THE UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTERS MILLER CONFERENCE CENTER. THE 2ND EVENT, A MULTI MEDIA PRESENTATION ENTITLED LAST ACTS OF KINDNESS, WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE SAME DAY AT 7 PM AND WILL BE HELD AT YOGA MENDOCINO AT 206 MASON STREET.

STATE PRISON POPULATION MUST BE REDUCED JKB 5/25/11

  • THE U.S. SUPREME COURT HAS RULED THAT THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA MUST REDUCE ITS PRISON POPULATION, BY TRANSFERRING PRISONERS TO LOCAL JAILS.

ABOUT 33,000 STATE PRISONERS WILL BE RELEASED OR TRANSFERRED STATEWIDE OVER THE NEXT 2 YEARS TO ALLEVIATE OVERCROWDING. IT IS UNKNOWN EXACTLY HOW MANY OF THE PRISONERS WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO MENDOCINO COUNTY, AND IF THE COUNTY WILL BE REIMBURSED BY THE STATE FOR THEIR CARE. ACCORDING TO SHERIFF TOM ALLMAN, THE INFLUX OF NEW PRISONERS WILL CREATE AN IMMEDIATE NEED TO HIRE MORE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS.
