FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT JKB 6/22/11

  • A SONOMA COUNTY WINE EXECUTIVE WAS KILLED IN A BOATING ACCIDENT ON LAKE PILLSBURY MONDAY EVENING.

DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO THE RESORT AT AROUND 9:45 PM. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND 55 YEAR OLD GARY ANTHONY ARCHER OF SANTA ROSA LYING DEAD ON THE DOCK SURROUNDED BY WITNESSES AND RESCUE PERSONNEL. ACCORDING THE INITIAL INVESTIGATION, ARCHER WAS WATER SKIING BEHIND A BOAT BEING PILOTED BY 39 YEAR OLD CHRISTIAN SPECKMAN OF SAN FRANCISCO. SPECKMAN REPORTEDLY MADE A SHARP TURN BEFORE REACHING THE SHORELINE WITH THE INTENT THAT ARCHER WOULD RELEASE THE SKI LINE AND GLIDE INTO SHORE. SOMEHOW, THE BOAT STRUCK ARCHER DURING THE TURN MANUEVER. ARCHER WAS THE OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR THE GARY FARRELL WINERY IN HEALDSBURG.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT JKB 6/22/11

  • A MOTORCYCLIST WAS KILLED IN A COLLISION AT THE INTERSECTION HIGHWAY 53 AND DAM ROAD SUNDAY NIGHT.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, 53 YEAR OLD BRIAN CHATFILED WAS RIDING NORTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 53 WHEN HE ENTERED THE INTERSECTION JUST BEFORE 7 PM AND COLLIDED WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN BY 29 YEAR OLD JEREMY SCHENK OF CLEARLAKE, AS HE WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 53 UNDER A GREEN LIGHT. CHATFIELD WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AFTER BEING TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL.

MOBILE HOME FIRE JKB 6/22/11

  • AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING A SUSPICIOUS FIRE THAT DESTROYED A VACANT DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME ON CARSON WAY IN NICE EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

THE HOME WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES BY THE TIME FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED AT AROUND 3:30 AM. THE STRUCTURE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE MOBILE HOME HAD BEEN VACANT FOR SOME TIME AND THERE WAS NO POWER OR WATER TO THE HOME. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR MICROWAVING BABY JKB 6/22/11

  • SACRAMENTO POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A MOTHER AFTER AN INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT HER BABY LIKELY DIED FROM BURNS SUFFERED IN A MICROWAVE OVEN.

29 YEAR OLD KA YANG WAS BOOKED INTO JAIL 3 MONTHS AFTER HER 6 WEEK OLD DAUGHTER WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE FAMILY HOME. POLICE DESCRIBED THE CHILD AS SUFFERING EXTENSIVE THERMAL INJURIES. YANG HAS 3 OTHER CHILDREN, ALL BOYS THAT ARE 7 AND YOUNGER. THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM HER HOME.

STATE LEGISLATORS NOT GETTING PAID JKB 6/22/11

  • STATE LAWMAKERS NOW HAVE ADDED INCENTIVE TO WORK A LITTLE HARDER AFTER STATE CONTROLLER JOHN CHIANG ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT NONE OF THEM WILL BE GETTING PAID UNTIL A BALANCED BUDGET IS REACHED.

CHIANG UPHELD HIS PROMISE TO ENFORCE PROPOSITION 25, KNOWN AS THE ONE TIME BUDGET ACT THAT REQUIRES LAWMAKERS TO FORFEIT THEIR PAY FOR EVERY DAY AFTER JUNE 15TH THAT THEY FAIL TO PRODUCE A BALANCED BUDGET. TO DATE, THE STATE HAS SAVED MORE THAN $194,000 IN SALARIES FOR THE 120 LEGISLATORS IN EACH HOUSE. IF A BALANCED BUDGET IS NOT REACHED BY THEIR NEXT SCHEDULED PAY DATE ON JUNE 30TH, THAT FIGURE WILL JUMP TO MORE THAN $534,000.

NAPA HOSPITAL FINED JKB 6/22/11

  • OSHA HAS FINED THE NAPA STATE MENTAL HOSPITAL $16,875 OVER AN ATTACK ON A THERAPIST THAT LEFT HIM WITH SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES.

OSHA CITED THE HOSPITAL FOR NOT HAVING ADEQUATE ALARM SYSTEMS, PROPER ESCORT PATIENT PROCEDURES, OR INJURY AND ILLNESS PREVENTION PROGRAMS. 25 YEAR OLD HOSPITAL PATIENT SEAN BOUCHIE WAS ARRESTED AFTER HE SEVERELY BEAT THERAPIST GEORGE ANDERSON IN DECEMBER DURING A WALK. HE WAS LATER FOUND INCOMPETENT TO STAND TRIAL.

WOOLSEY TO RETIRE JKB 6/22/11

  • LONGTIME NORTH BAY CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE LYNN WOOLSEY OF PETALUMA, IS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE HER RETIREMENT NEXT MONDAY.

THE 73 YEAR OLD WOOLSEY, WHO HAS SERVED IN CONGRESS FOR NEARLY TWO DECADES, IS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE HER RETIREMENT AFTER THE COMPLETION OF HER 10TH TERM IN 2012.

EQUINE HERPES CONTAINED JKB 6/22/11

  • CALIFORNIA AG OFFICIALS HAVE DECLARED THE RECENT OUTBREAK OF EQUINE HERPES CONTAINED.

THE OUTBREAK WAS ASSOCIATED WITH HORSES THAT ATTENDED THE NATIONAL CUTTING HORSE ASSOCIATIONS WESTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN OGDEN UTAH IN LATE APRIL AND EARLY MAY. CALIFORNIA HORSE OWNERS ARE URGED TO REMAIN VIGILANT FOR SIGNS OF THE DISEASE TO PREVENT ANOTHER OUTBREAK.

RASMUSSEN SWORN IN AS LAKEPORT POLICE CHIEF JKB 6/22/11

  • INTERIM LAKEPORT POLICE CHIEF BRAD RASMUSSEN WAS GIVEN THE JOB OFFICIALLY YESTERDAY, AS HE WAS SWORN IN AS THE CITYS 24TH CHIEF OF POLICE.

RASMUSSEN HAS WORKED HIS WAY UP THROUGH THTE DEPARTMENT OVER A NEARLY 21 YEAR CAREER. HE WAS MADE INTERIM CHIEF WHEN FORMER CHIEF KEVIN BURKE LEFT LAST OCTOBER TO TAKE THE CHIEFS OF POLICE POSITION IN HEALDSBURG.

SHERIFFS BUDGET BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED JKB 6/22/11

  • THE BUDGET FOR THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT FOR THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR TURNED OUT TO BE BETTER THAN FIRST ANTICIPATED.

THE $19 AND A HALF MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET FOR THE DEPARTMENT IS ALMOST $1 MILLION DOLLARS MORE THAN ORIGINALLY RECOMMENDED BY COUNTY CEO CARMEL ANGELO. SHERIFF TOM ALLMAN CREDITED HAVING A WORKABLE BUDGET THIS YEAR TO THE EFFORTS OF ANGELO AND HER STAFF.
