MAN ARRESTED FOR SETTING FIRE JKB 6/28/11

  • A GUALALA MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER SETTING HIS BOYFRIENDS PERSONAL BELONGINGS ON FIRE AFTER AN ARGUMENT SUNDAY.

46 YEAR OLD DARIN DAWSON ALLEGEDLY PILED 63 YEAR OLD DANIEL MONDRAGONS BELONGINGS AGAINST AN EXTERIOR WALL OF A SHED AT THE HOME THEY SHARED ON TICKLED PINK DRIVE JUST BEFORE 11 AM. HE THEN DOUSED THEM WITH GASOLINE, LIT THEM ON FIRE AND LEFT. OTHER RESIDENTS OF THE PROPERTY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT NOT BEFORE IT CAUGHT THE SHED ON FIRE. DAWSON WAS LATER LOCATED BY DEPUTIES HIDING IN A SHED ON ANOTHER NEARBY PROPERTY.

KIDNAPPERS SOUGHT JKB 6/28/11

  • A EUREKA COUPLE IS BEING SOUGHT IN CONNECTION WITH THE KIDNAPPING, ASSAULT, AND ROBBING OF A 40 YEAR OLD EUREKA MAN ON FRIDAY.

37 YEAR OLD CHANDLER NELSON AND 32 YEAR OLD GINGER HOWARD ALLEGEDLY KIDNAPPED THE MAN AND DROVE HIM AROUND CUTTEN IN A RED VAN. THE VICTIM WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS DURING THE ABDUCTION. HE WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO ESCAPE WHEN THE VAN SLOWED AT AN INTERSECTION. NELSON IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE WITH BLACK HAIR, BLUE EYES, 6 FEET 2 INCHES TALL AND WEIGHING 165 POUNDS. HOWARD IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE WOMAN, 5 FEET 2INCHES TALL, WEIGHING 115 POUNDS, WITH STRAWBERRY BLOND HAIR AND GREEN EYES. POLICE SAY THE COUPLE HAVE CONNECTIONS ALL ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND COULD BE ANYWHERE IN HUMBOLDT, DEL NORTE, OR MENDOCINO COUNTIES.

MAN DIES AFTER FALLING INTO LAKE SONOMA JKB 6/28/11

  • A 39 YEAR OLD SANTA ROSA MAN DIED AFTER FALLING INTO LAKE SONOMA FOLLOWING WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN A MEDICAL EMERGENCY MONDAY EVENING.

THE MAN HAD COMPLAINED THAT HE WASNT FEELING WELL EARLIER IN THE DAY. HE AND HIS MOTHER WERE ON A LARGE CABIN CRUISER TETHERED TO THE SHORE NEAR THE ISLAND VIEW GROUP CAMP. THE MOTHER WAS AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE BOAT WHEN SHE HEARD HER SON FALL THROUGH THE RAILING AND INTO THE WATER AT AROUND 7:30 PM. HE WAS FACE DOWN AND NON RESPONSIVE IN THE WATER WHEN SHE GOT TO HIM. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL HIM TO SHORE, BUT HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD A SHORT TIME LATER. HIS NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

MISSING MAN IDENTIFIED JKB 6/28/11

  • A MAN WHO WENT MISSING AFTER FALLING OUT OF HIS BOAT ON TOMALES BAY OVER THE WEEKEND HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 48 YEAR OLD BACH VAN NGUYEN OF VACAVILLE.

NGUYEN WAS TAKING A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY BETWEEN LAWSONS LANDING AND A BEACH TOWARD THE TIP OF TOMALES POINT IN A 12 FOOT ALUMINUM BOAT. HE HAD JUST DROPPED PEOPLE OFF AT THE LANDING AND WAS RETURNING TO THE BEACH WHEN A WITNESS USING BINOCULARS, SAW HIM FALL OUT OF THE BOAT NEAR THE MOUTH OF THE BAY.

FIRE THREATENS HOMES JKB 6/28/11

  • QUICK ACTION BY FIREFIGHTERS KEPT A FIRE THAT THREATENED SEVERAL HOMES ON THE ROBINSON RANCHERIA FROM DOING ANY SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

THE BLAZE, ON MANZANITA CIRCLE ACROSS FROM ACORN DRIVE WAS REPORTED AT ABOUT 4 PM. IT BURNED APPROXIMATELY 7 ACRES AND THREATENED 4 OR 5 NEARBY HOMES BEFORE BEING BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL. THE FIRE DID SCORCH SOME FENCES, BUT CAUSED NO DAMAGE TO THE HOMES. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

ARSON INVESTIGATION JKB 6/28/11

  • AUTHORITIES ARE CONTINUING THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO A FIRE THAT DESTROYED A BRAND NEW MOBILE HOME ON THE ELEM INDIAN COLONY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING AS ARSON.

THE OWNERS OF THE HOME HAD TAKEN POSSESSION OF IT JUST THE DAY BEFORE IT BURNED TO THE GROUND. POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A DISPUTE BETWEEN FAMILY MEMBERS THAT MAY HAVE LED TO THE HOME BEING TARGETED. 3 MEN INSIDE THE HOME WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE UNINJURED. THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS HAS BEEN ASKED TO ASSIST WITH THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION.

WOOLSEY OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT JKB 6/28/11

  • AS EXPECTED, NORTH COAST REPRESENTATIVE LYNN WOOLSEY OF PETALUMA, MADE IT OFFICIAL OVER THE WEEKEND AND ANNOUNCED THAT SHE WOULD RETIRE FROM CONGRESS AFTER SHE COMPLETES HER CURRENT 10TH TERM IN OFFICE AT THE END OF 2012.

WOOSELY MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO ABOUT 200 SUPPORTERS AT A PRIVATE EVENT THAT WAS HELD IN THE BACKYARD OF HER HOME ON MONDAY.

UKIAH WILL APPEAL POST OFFICE CLOSURE JKB 6/28/11

  • THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL AGREED TO OFFICIALLY APPEAL THE U.S POSTAL SERVICES PLAN TO CLOSE THE NORTH OAK STREET POST OFFICE AND MOVE SERVICES TO THE SOUTH ORCHARD AVENUE POSTAL ANNEX.

AT A MEETING LAST NIGHT, THE COUNCIL DIRECTED THE CITY ATTORNEY TO DRAFT A LETTER REQUESTING AN APPEAL OF THE DECISION, THAT THEY WILL REVIEW AT THEIR NEXT MEETING ON JULY 6TH.

BUI CHECKPOINT JKB 6/28/11

  • A BOATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE CHECKPOINT OPERATION ON CLEARLAKE, CONDUCTED BY THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT ON SATURDAY WENT WELL.

A TOTAL OF 33 BOATERS WERE CONTACTED AND SCREENED. 7 OPERATORS WERE GIVEN FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS, BUT NO ARRESTS WERE MADE OF BUI.
