WOMAN DIES FROM ACCIDENT INJURIES JKB 11/29/11

  • A FINELY WOMAN INVOLVED IN A SOLO VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 29 IN KELSEYVILLE LAST WEEK, HAS DIED.

70 YEAR OLD ROSETTA FORREST WAS AIDED MORE THAN A DOZEN OTHER MOTORISTS AFTER THE CRASH THAT OCCURRED TUESDAY MORNING. SHE WAS TAKEN TO SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL AND LATER TRANSFERRED TO THE JOHN MUIR MEDICAL CENTER IN WALNUT CREEK, WHERE SHE DIED OF HER INJURIES. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE CRASH IS CONTINUING.

FATAL ID JKB 11/29/11

  • A MAN WHO WAS KILLED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 29 LATE SUNDAY NIGHT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 34 YEAR OLD ISAIAH NEIL OF LOCH LOMOND.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, NEIL WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND JUST NORTH OF HIGHWAY 175 WHEN, FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, HE ALLOWED HIS CAR TO DRIFT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC WHERE HE COLLIDED WITH AN SUV BEING DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD JARRET PARMENTER OF KELSEYVILLE. NEIL WAS NOT WEARING A SEATBELT AND DIED AT THE SCENE. PARMENTER SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. NO WORD YET ON HIS CONDITION. THE CRASH REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

PLEA IN BROTHERS SHOOTING DEATH JKB 11/29/11

  • A CLEARLAKE OAKS MAN WILL SERVE 11 YEARS IN PRISON AFTER REACHING A PLEA DEAL IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF HIS BROTHER THAT OCCURRED IN OCTOBER OF 2009.

26 YEAR OLD ALBERTO MONTES WAS SET TO BE TRIED FOR MURDER IN JANUARY. UNDER AN AGREEMENT STRUCK THREE WEEKS AGO, MONTES PLEADED GUILTY TO VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER, AGREEING TO SERVE THE UPPER LIMIT FOR THE CRIME. MONTES WILL BE FORMALLY SENTENCED DECEMBER 6TH.

AUTOPSY RELEASED IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING JKB 11/29/11

  • AN AUTOPSY HAS REVEALED THAT ALL THREE SHOTS FIRED BY A SEBASTOPOL POLICE OFFICER RESPONDING TO A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CALL, STRUCK THE SUSPECT, WITH AT LEAST ONE STRIKING THE TORSO, CAUSING THE FATAL WOUND.

OFFICER DENNIS COLTHURST, A 31 YEAR VETERAN OF THE FORCE, FIRED THE SHOTS FROM A DISTANCE OF 10 TO 15 FEET AFTER 25 YEAR OLD PABLO PEREZ RAMIREZ REFUSED TO COMPLY WITH ORDERS TO DROP THE GUN AND BRANDISHED THE WEAPON AT THE OFFICER THANKSGIVING DAY. OFFICER COLTHURST HAS BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE PENDING THE OUTCOME OF AN INVESTIGATION.

MOTEL BURGLARY JKB 11/29/11

  • A FORT BRAGG MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER STEALING A WOMANS PURSE FROM A MOTEL EMPLOYEES LAUNDRY ROOM SUNDAY MORNING.

SEVERAL WITNESSES TO THE INCIDENT WERE ABLE TO GIVE POLICE A DESCRIPTION OF THE MAN WHO WALKED IN AND SNATCHED THE PURSE AT AROUND 11:15 AM AND 66 YEAR OLD LESTER MAYHEW WAS ARRESTED A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE SUPER 8 MOTEL WHERE THE THEFT OCCURRED. ALL OF THE VICTIMS PROPERTY, PURSE AND CASH WERE RECOVERED.

STORAGE UNIT EXPLOSIVES STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION JKB 11/29/11

  • LAKE COUNTY AUTHORITIES ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THE DISCOVERY OF MORE THAN 2 AND A HALF POUNDS OF C4 AND ANOTHER TYPE OF PUTTY EXPLOSIVE IN A STORAGE UNIT IN CLEARLAKE ON SUNDAY.

TWO PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED THE STORAGE UNIT AT AUCTION REPORTED FINDING THE EXPLOSIVES TO POLICE. AUTHORITIES EVACUATED THE NEARBY ADAGIO APARTMENT COMPLEX, AND A BOMB SQUAD FROM ALAMEDA COUNTY WAS CALLED IN TO REMOVE AND DETONATE THE EXPLOSIVES. THE FORMER OWNER OF THE STORAGE UNIT, 62 YEAR OLD VICTOR KEE OF CLEARLAKE WAS ARRESTED MONDAY FOR FELONY RECKLESS POSSESSION OF EXPLOSIVES. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE EXPLOSIVES WERE OBTAINED FROM A KNOWN OUTLAW MOTORCYCLE GANG. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE CASE IS CONTINUING.

CRAB FISHING BEGINS JKB 11/29/11

  • NORTH BAY CRAB FISHERMEN FINALLY BEGAN FISHING ON MONDAY AFTER REACHING A SETTLEMENT WITH PROCESSORS ON PRICE.

THE AGREEMENT ENDED A TWO WEEK STALEMATE THAT MEANT THERE WAS NO FRESH CRAB AVAILABLE FOR THANKSGIVING. FISHERMEN WERE ASKING FOR $2.50 A POUND, WHILE PROCESSORS WERE OFFERING $2.00. THEY AGREED ON MONDAY TO A PRICE OF $2.25 A POUND. FRESH CRAB COULD BE SEEN IN LOCAL MARKETS BY AS EARLY AS TODAY. THE SEASON OFF THE MENDOCINO COAST WILL OPEN DECEMBER 15TH.

REGISTRATION IN THE FIRST LOTTERY FOR 3000 PRESALE TICKETS AT A COST OF $420 EACH, BEGAN YESTERDAY AND WILL CLOSE DECEMBER 11TH. WINNERS IN THAT LOTTERY WILL BE NOTIFIED BY DECEMBER 19TH. REGISTRATION FOR ANOTHER 40,000 TICKETS RANGING IN PRICE FROM $240 TO $390 WILL OPEN JANUARY 9TH AND END JANUARY 22ND. ANOTHER 10,000 TICKETS AT A COST OF $390 A PIECE WILL BE SOLD ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS IN MARCH, WHILE A REMAINING 3,500 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD FOR $160 EACH TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS UNDER A LOW INCOME SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. ORGANIZERS DECIDED TO IMPLEMENT THE LOTTERY STYLE TICKET SALES AFTER THE FESTIVAL SOLD OUT FOR THE FIRST IN THE EVENTS 26 YEAR HISTORY THIS YEAR.
