WOMAN FACING MANSLAUGHTER INVOLVED IN INJURY ACCIDENT JKB 12/1/11

  • A WILLITS WOMAN WHO PLEADED GUILTY MONDAY TO ATTEMPTED MANSLAUGHTER FOR SETTING FIRE TO THE HOME SHE SHARED WITH HER QUADRIPLEGIC SON LAST YEAR, WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT THAT LEFT HER PASSENGER WITH MAJOR INJURIES TUESDAY NIGHT.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, 52 YEAR OLD NANCY JO MCGINTY WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN ON CASPAR STREET, TURNING ONTO SOUTHBOUND HIGHWAY 1, WHEN HER PASSENGER, 40 YEAR OLD LAURI ANN DEVAUGHN OF MENDOCINO FELL OUT OF THE CAR, BREAKING HER PELVIS AND SUFFERING A LACERATION ON HER ABDOMEN. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE CAR WAS MOVING ABOUT 5 MILES AN HOUR AND DEVAUGHN WAS TRYING TO ADJUST A MALFUNCTIONING SEATBELT WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT AROUND 11 PM. SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT. MCGINTY FACES UP TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SETTING FIRE TO HER HOME IN A FAILED MURDER SUICIDE ATTEMPT DECEMBER 14TH OF LAST YEAR. SHE WAS RELEASED IN AUGUST AFTER POSTING A QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS BOND. SHE IS SCHEDULED TO BE SENTENCED FEBRUARY 3RD.

HIGH SPEED CHASE DETAILS JKB 12/1/1

  • MORE INFORMATION HAS BEEN RELEASED REGARDING A HIGH SPEED CHASE IN LAKEPORT LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

36 YEAR OLD JASON AGUSTINOVICH OF LAKEPORT REPORTEDLY REACHED SPEEDS OF 120 MILES AN HOUR IN HIS ATTEMPT OUT RUN LAW ENFORCEMENT IN A STOLEN CAR. THE CHASE ENDED SHORTLY BEFORE 11:30 PM WHEN AGUSTINOVICH LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED AT HILL ROAD AND PARK WAY IN FRONT OF THE LAKEPORT FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT STATION 52. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON CHARGES OF CAR THEFT, FELONY EVADING, DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND DUI.

NEW TRIAL NOT SUBMITTED JKB 12/1/11

  • A CLEARLAKE MAN CONVICTED OF MOLESTING HIS STEPDAUGHTER FOR MORE THAN 3 YEARS, DID NOT FILE A MOTION FOR A NEW TRIAL AS HE WAS EXPECTED TO DO ON TUESDAY.

31 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER SANDERS WAS CONVICTED IN MAY ON FIVE FELONY COUNTS FOR THE CONTINUOUS SEXUAL ABUSE OF THE CHILD, BETWEEN 2005 AND 2008, BEGINNING WHEN SHE WAS 11 YEARS OLD. HE WAS SCHEDULED FOR SENTENCING EARLIER THIS YEAR, BUT HE FIRED HIS ATTORNEY AFTER HIS CONVICTION AND WAS EXPECTED TO FILE A MOTION FOR A NEW TRIAL. THAT MOTION WAS NOT MADE DURING A COURT APPEARANCE ON TUESDAY. SANDERS FACES UP TO 35 YEARS IN STATE PRISON WHEN HE IS SENTENCED JANUARY 10TH.

FINAL ELECTION RESULTS RELEASED JKB 12/1/11

  • MENDOCINO COUNTY CLERK RECORDER SUSAN RANOCHAK ISSUED THE FINAL RESULTS FOR THE 2011 COUNTYWIDE GENERAL ELECTION YESTERDAY, AND THE VOTER TURN OUT ACROSS THE COUNTY WAS MUCH BETTER THAN FIRST THOUGHT.

OUT OF THE COUNTIES 48,267 REGISTER VOTERS, 19,982 CAST BALLOTS IN THE NOVEMBER 8TH ELECTION FOR A 41.4% TURNOUT, A FULL 10 PERCENTAGE POINTS BETTER THAN WAS INDICATED THE DAY AFTER THE ELECTION. THERE WAS ALSO ONE CHANGE FROM THE PRELIMINARY RESULTS, WITH DAVID GECK WINNING A SEAT ON THE MENDOCINO COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WITH 54% OF THE VOTE OVER DERREK TIPPET. TIPPET APPEARED TO BE LEADING THE RACE THE DAY AFTER THE ELECTION.

FATHER ARRESTED FOR THREATENING DAUGHER JKB 12/1/11

  • A CALPELLA MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER THREATENING HIS DAUGHTER WITH A KNIFE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

THE 38 YEAR OLD FEMALE VICTIM FROM ELK GROVE, CALLED DEPUTIES TO THE PROPERTY ON EAST SIDE CALPELLA ROAD AT AROUND 2 PM. SHE STATED SHE OWNED THE PROPERTY AND WAS THERE TO CHECK ON NEW TENANTS WHO WERE MOVING IN ON THE SAME PROPERTY WHERE HER FATHER, 66 YEAR OLD EVERADO BANUELOS LIVED IN A SMALL CABIN. SHE SAID HER FATHER WHO WAS ANGRY FOR AN UNSPECIFIED REASON CONFRONTED HER AND THREATENED TO STAB HER IN THE HEART WITH A LARGE KITCHEN KNIFE. BANUELOS ADMITTED TO BRANDISHING THE KNIFE AND WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON.

POT BUST JKB 12/1/11

  • A LAKE ELSINORE MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER HE WAS FOUND TRANSPORTING MARIJUANA DURING A TRAFFIC STOP IN LAYTONVILLE TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

DURING THE STOP, 33 YEAR OLD BRET BATEMAN ADMITTED TO SMOKING MARIJUANA PRIOR TO DRIVING AND SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED A FIELD SOBRIETY TEST. DURING A SEARCH OF HIS VEHICLE A DEPUTY FOUND EVIDENCE THAT BATEMAN HAD BEEN PURCHASING AND TRANSPORTING MARIJUANA TO NUMEROUS LOCATIONS IN THE COUNTY. $40,000 IN CASH WAS ALSO SEIZED. BATEMAN WAS ISSUED A CITATION OF THE POSSESSION, SALE AND TRANSPORTATION OF MARIJUANA AND RELEASED ON A PROMISE TO APPEAR.
