  • TRIPLE S CAMERA ON SCHOOL STREET IN UKIAH WAS TARGETED DURING AN EARLY MORNING BREAK IN ON SATURDAY, WITH THIEVES ESCAPING WITH MORE THAN $7000 IN CAMERAS.

ACCORDING TO POLICE, THE BURGLARS GAINED ACCESS TO THE BUILDING BY BREAKING IN THROUGH THE BACK DOOR SOMETIME BEFORE 3:30 AM. THE THIEVES KNEW WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR, TAKING ONLY THE MOST EXPENSIVE NEW CAMERAS ALONG WITH THE BOXES CONTAINING THE ACCESSORIES KIT. POLICE HAVE NO SUSPECT INFORMATION AND NO OTHER BREAK-INS WERE REPORTED ON SATURDAY.

HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN UPPER LAKE JKB 1/25/12

  • ANOTHER MARIJUANA RELATED HOME INVASION ROBBERY TOOK PLACE EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING, THIS TIME IN UPPER LAKE.

THE VICTIM TOLD POLICE HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE LIVING ROOM AT AROUND 2 AM AND WENT TO INVESTIGATE. HE CLAIMED HE WAS CONFRONTED BY THREE OR FOUR ARMED HISPANIC MALE ADULTS WHO DEMANDED TO KNOW WHERE HE KEPT HIS MARIJUANA, MONEY AND GUNS. THE SUSPECTS THEN TIED THE VICTIMS HANDS AND FEET BEFORE LEAVING WITH APPROXIMATELY 20 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, $1,500 IN CASH AND A FIREARM. THE VICTIM WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO FREE HIMSELF AND CALL 911. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

MAN DIES AFTER JUMPING FROM BUILDING JKB 1/25/12

  • A HUMBOLDT COUNTY MAN DIED AFTER JUMPING OFF THE MASONIC LODGE BUILDING IN EUREKA YESTERDAY MORNING.

35 YEAR OLD LEVI WILLIAM HAYNES REPORTEDLY ACCESSED THE ROOF OF THE BUILDING BY PROPPING UP A WOODEN PALLET AND USING IT TO REACH A FIRE ESCAPE LADDER. WITNESSES SAID HAYNES TOOK A RUNNING LEAP OFF THE BUILDING AND LANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF G STREET JUST BEFORE 10:30 AM. HAYNES, WHOSE FAMILY LIVES IN CRESCENT CITY, SUFFERED MAJOR HEAD INJURIES AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON ARRIVAL AT ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL. ACCORDING TO POLICE HAYNES HAD A HISTORY OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND HAD REPORTEDLY SPOKEN ABOUT JUMPING OFF THE MASONIC LODGE BUILDING IN THE PAST.

MURDER ARREST JKB 1/25/12

  • A REDWOOD VALLEY MAN WAS SHOT TO DEATH AT HIS HOME LAST NIGHT, AND HIS NEIGHBOR HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR HIS MURDER.

DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO THE HOME JUST BEFORE 10 PM. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND 30 YEAR OLD JAMAL ANDREWS DEAD OUTSIDE OF HIS HOME. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE VICTIMS GIRLFRIEND, THEY LEARNED THE POSSIBLE SUSPECT, 33 YEAR OLD BILLY NORBURY, HAD FLED ON AN ATV AND LIVED NEAR BY. DEPUTIES CONTACTED NORBURY AT HIS HOME AND SAW ITEMS IN PLAIN SIGHT THAT LINKED HIM TO THE SHOOTING DEATH OF ANDREWS. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON CHARGES OF MURDER. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT IS CONTINUING.

MENINGOCOCCAL IN PRESCHOOLER REPORTED JKB 1/25/12

  • A MENINGOCOCCAL INFECTION THAT WAS REPORTED IN A CLEARLAKE PRESCHOOLER HAS PROMPTED A QUICK AND AGGRESSIVE RESPONSE FROM THE PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN LAKE COUNTY.

61 CLOSE CONTACTS WITH THE TODDLER HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND REFERRED FOR PREVENTIVE TREATMENT. THE POMO EARLY CONNECTION PRE-SCHOOL WHERE THE CHILD ATTENDED WAS CLOSED MONDAY, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY FOR EMPLOYEES AND CHILDREN TO RECEIVE THE RECOMMENDED PREVENTIVE TREATMENT AND FOR THE FACILITY TO BE THOROUGHLY DISINFECTED. MENINGOCOCCAL BACTERIA CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS INFECTION INCLUDING MENINGITIS, AND IS HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS. THE CHILD WHO FELL ILL IS RECEIVING TREATMENT.

BOS VOTES TO GIVE SELVES A 10% PAY CUT JKB 1/25/12

  • THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NARROWLY VOTED TO PERMANENTLY CUT THEIR SALARIES BY 10% YESTERDAY.

SUPERVISORS SMITH AND HAMBURG DISSENTED. HAMBURG OBJECTED ON GROUNDS THE VALUE OF THE SUPERVISORS WOULD BE PLACED AS THAT OF MIDDLE MANAGERS, AND THAT FOUR OF THE FIVE SUPERVISORS, EXCLUDING SMITH, ALREADY TAKE A VOLUNTARY 10% PAY CUT. THAT VOLUNTARY CUT HOWEVER, DOES NOT AFFECT RETIREMENT OR OTHER SALARY BASED BENEFITS. SMITH ARGUED THAT MENDOCINO SUPERVISORS WERE BEHIND IN PAY COMPARED TO SURROUNDING COUNTIES AND URGED A COMPARISON STUDY BEFORE ENACTING THE CUTS. SUPERVISOR MCCOWEN POINTED OUT THAT ALL OF THE OTHER EMPLOYEES IN THE COUNTY HAD BEEN FORCED TO TAKE A CUT, AND THAT HE WISHED THEY HAD IMPLEMENTED THE CUTS THREE YEARS AGO. SUPERVISOR PINCHES, WHO WAS AGAINST THE CUTS WHEN FIRST PROPOSED LAST JANUARY, CAST THE SWING VOTE FOR THE SALARY REDUCTION.

POT PERMIT PROGRAM ELIMINATED JKB 1/25/12

  • THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTED 4 TO 1 TO ELIMINATE THE COUNTYS MEDICAL MARIJUANA PERMIT PROGRAM.

THE MOVE WAS EXPECTED AS THE U.S ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE HAD THREATENED TO SUE THE COUNTY OVER THE ORDINANCE THAT COLLECTED FEES FOR THOSE WISHING TO GROW MEDICAL MARIJUANA. THE FEES GENERATED MORE THAN $600,000 FOR THE COUNTY LAST YEAR. SUPERVISOR PINCHES WAS THE LONE DISSENTING VOTE.

DEPUTIES CALLED AS DOLAN OUSTED AT MWC JKB 12/25/12

  • DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO PARDUCCI WINE CELLARS ON FRIDAY WHEN A DISPUTE BROKE OUT BETWEEN PARTNERS AT THE MENDOCINO WINE COMPANY.

ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, THE DISTURBANCE WAS CIVIL IN NATURE AND NOT CRIMINAL. PAUL DOLAN WAS REPORTEDLY OUSTED AS A PARTNER OF THE COMPANY BY THE OTHER PARTNERS IN THE BUSINESS, TIM AND THOMAS THORNHILL. DOLAN HELPED CREATE MENDOCINO WINE COMPANY IN 2004 AFTER THE ACQUISITION OF PARDUCCI WINE CELLARS. DOLAN HAD SERVED MORE THAN A DECADE AS PRESIDENT OF FETZER VINEYARDS WHERE HE DEVELOPED THE NATIONS LARGES ORGANIC WINE MAKING OPERATION. NO OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE FALLOUT HAVE BEEN RELEASED.
