2ND DEFENDANT FOUND GUILTY JH 06/21/12

2ND DEFENDANT FOUND GUILTY IN SHOOTING DEATH.

22 YEAR OLD PAUL WILLIAM BRADEN OF CLEARLAKE OAKS WAS FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER AND MULTIPLE ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES FOR THE AMBUSH-STYLE SHOOTING THAT KILLED 4 YEAR OLD SKYLER RAPP AND WOUNDED FIVE OTHERS AT A GATHERING LAST YEAR. BRADENS CO-DEFENDANT, 24 YEAR OLD ORLANDO JOSEPH LOPEZ OF CLEARLAKE OAKS, WAS FOUND GUILTY FRIDAY BY A SEPARATE JURY, OF THE SAME 70 CHARGES AND SPECIAL ALLEGATIONS. THE CHARGES CARRY MULTIPLE LIFE SENTENCES. BRADEN IS SCHEDULED TO BE SENTENCED AUGUST 9,. LOPEZ IS SCHEDULED TO BE SENTENCED AUGUST 7.

PAROLEE FOUND WITH STABBING WEAPON JH 06/21/12

PAROLEE WAS FOUND WITH A STABBING WEAPON.

LATE MONDAY NIGHT, MENDOCINO COUNTY DEPUTIES PAID A VISIT TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX ON NORTH STATE STREET IN UKIAH FOR A PAROLE SEARCH OF 21 YEAR OLD ROBERT CAMPBELL. CAMPBELL IS ON PAROLE FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON. DURING THE SEARCH DEPUTIES FOUND A SCREW DRIVER TYPE TOOL THAT HAD BEEN SHARPENED TO A POINT TO BE USED AS A WEAPON. CAMPBELL WAS ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF A DIRK OR DAGGER AND BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL WITH NO BAIL.

OPERATION DRY WATER JH 06/21/12

THE LAKE COUNTYSHERIFFS OFFICE MARINE PATROL UNIT IS IS CONDUCTING OPERATION DRY WATER FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

MARINE PATROL DEPUTIES WILL BE OUT IN FORCE THIS WEEKEND SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR SIGNS OF BOATERS OPERATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. OPERATING A BOAT WITH A BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL OF POINT ZERO EIGHT OR HIGHER IS AGAINST THE LAW.

CITY TAPS RESERVES TO KEEP MUSEUM OPEN JH 06/21/12

THE CITY OF UKIAH TAPS RESERVES TO SAVE MUSEUM.

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A NEW POLICY WEDNESDAY THAT HAS IT PAYING JUST OVER $400,000 FROM ITS RESERVE FUND TO KEEP THE GRACE HUDSON MUSEUM AND ADJACENT SUN HOUSE STAFFED AND OPEN FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS.

MOBILE HOME RENT CONTROL JH 06/21/12

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTE ON RENT CONTROL FOR MOBILE HOME PARKS.

AN ORDINANCE THAT WOULD IMPOSE STABILIZATION ON RENT THAT PARKS RESIDENTS PAY FOR THE LAND WHERE THEIR MOBILE HOME SITS, WAS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED DOWN YESTERDAY, BY THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.

TIP-A-COP FUNDRAISER JH 06/21/12

CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS AND VOLUNTEERS WILL BE TAKING FOOD ORDERS, SERVING FOOD, BUSING TABLES AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 PROGRAM.

IT IS ALL PART OF THE TIP-A-COP FUNDRAISER. THERE WILL ALSO BE K-9 SUPPORTER T-SHIRTS AVAILABLE DURING THE EVENT, WHICH IS FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM FRIDAY AT THE MAIN STREET BAR AND GRILL. ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 PROGRAM, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FUNDED BY DONATIONS.

LIBRARY HAS NEW HOURS JH 06/21/12

LIBRARY DISTRICT GETS NEW HOURS.

THANKS TO THE PASSAGE OF MEASURE A LAST NOVEMBER, THE MENDOCINO COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICT WILL EXPAND HOURS IN SEVERAL BRANCHES. THE FORT BRAGG AND UKIAH LIBRARIES WILL BEGIN NEW HOURS OF OPERATION ON SEPTEMBER 4TH. THE WILLITS AND ROUND VALLEY LIBRARIES WILL BE OPEN AN ADDITIONAL DAY, BEGINNING JULY 1ST.

ENHANCED MILL CREEK ACCESS JH 06/21/12

THE UKIAH ROD AND GUN CLUB ENHANCES MILL CREEK ACCESS.

IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE A POPULAR FISHING SPOT AT THE UPPER MILL CREEK DAM SAFER AND MORE ACCESSIBLE, THE UKIAH ROD AND GUN CLUB IS BUILDING A FISHING PLATFORM THAT INCLUDES A WHEEL-CHAIR FRIENDLY RAMP. THE GROUP ALSO REMOVED SOME OVERHANGING LIMBS TO HELP MAKE TANGLED, HAZARDOUS FISHING LINES A THING OF THE PAST. THEY AND MAY REMOVE MORE ONCE THE PLATFORM IS COMPLETE, WHICH WILL TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS.
