TASK FORCE FINDS MARIJUANA GROW JH 06/22/12

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE NARCOTICS TASK FORCE LOCATED A MARIJUANA GROW SITE IN THE MIDDLETOWN AREA MONDAY DURING AN OVERFLIGHT MISSION.

OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE GROW SITE IN THE AREA OF BIG CANYON ROAD ON TUESDAY. GREGORY CEDA AND CHERYL DANFORTH WERE CONTACTED AND CLAIMED OWNERSHIP OF THE GROW SITE THAT HAD 62 GROWING PLANTS AND AN ADDITIONAL 50 THAT WERE JUST HARVESTED IN A LIGHT-DEPRIVATION-TYPE GROW. CEDA AND DANFORTH WERE IN POSSESSION OF APPROXIMATELY 25 POUNDS OF PROCESSED MARIJUANA. DANFORTH TOLD OFFICERS, THEY WERE NOT HARVESTING THE GROW, BUT CUTTING IT DOWN TO BE IN COMPLIANCE. DANFORTH AND CEDA RELINQUISHED ALL OF THE POT, AND NO CHARGES ARE PENDING.

BICYCLIST INJURED IN CRASH JH 06/22/12

A CLEARLAKE MAN WAS INJURED EARLY THURSDAY MORNING IN A BICYCLE CRASH.

55 YEAR OLD ORLANDO FRANKLIN WAS RIDING HIS BICYCLE AT AROUND 2:30 AM AND TURNING ONTO RISHER DRIVE WHEN HE HIT A PIECE OF CULVERT TUBE. FRANKLIN WAS THROWN OVER THE HANDLEBARS AND INTO A DITCH. FRANKLIN SUFFERED SEVERE FACIAL INJURIES AND WAS FLOWN TO SANTO ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.

CLOVERDALE WOMAN SENTENCED FOR DUI JH 06/22/12

A CLOVERDALE WOMAN WAS SENTENCED WEDNESDAY FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

45 YEAR OLD LISA CHRISTINE MCCOY HAD THREE DRUNKEN DRIVING CONVICTIONS AND SERVED ONE YEAR FOR KILLING AN 84 YEAR OLD NAPA WOMAN ON HIGHWAY 128 IN 2003. SHE HAS DONE JAIL TIME FOR BEATING HER 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER OUTSIDE A WILLITS BAR IN 1996. AND SHE JUST COMPLETED TWO YEARS OF PROBATION FOR DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND DRUG CHARGES WHEN SHE WAS ARRESTED LAST OCTOBER BY CLOVERDALE POLICE FOR POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMIN AND POT FOR SALE AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF METHAMPHETAMINE. MCCOY PLEADED NO CONTEST WEDNESDAY TO HER LATEST DUI IN EXCHANGE FOR A ONE YEAR COUNTY JAIL SENTENCE. WITH CREDIT FOR TIME SERVED, SHE WAS RELEASED THAT SAME DAY.

CVS SETTLEMENT JH 06/22/12

MENDOCINO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY DAVID EYSTER DISCLOSED TODAY THE SETTLEMENT OF A CIVIL LAWSUIT AGAINST CVS PHARMACY, INC.

CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTORS CONDUCTED A COMPLIANCE REVIEW AT VARIOUS CVS STORES, INCLUDING THE UKIAH STORE, AND FOUND EVIDENCE OF IMPROPER STORAGE, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS WASTE AND PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE PRODUCTS. UNDER THE FINAL JUDGMENT, CVS IS REQUIRED TO PAY$13.75 MILLION DOLLARS TO MULTIPLE COUNTIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE IN CIVIL PENALTIES AND COSTS. CVS HAS ALREADY PAID $10,000 IN PENALTIES TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION, AND $10,000 IN CIVIL PENALTIES TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY DAS OFFICE.

MACKERRICHER REHAB JH 06/22/12

CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS IS PREPARING TO BEGIN A $750,000 DUNE REHABILITATION PROJECT AT MACKERRICHER STATE PARK.

THE PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON THE INGLENOOK FEN AND TEN MILE DUNES PRESERVE. THE OLD HAUL ROAD, NORTH OF WARD AVENUE AND SOUTH OF TEN MILE RIVER, WILL BE REMOVED. THE ON-GOING CONTROL OF INVASIVE EUROPEAN BEACH GRASS WILL ALSO CONTINUE. MOST OF THE MATERIAL REMOVED FROM THE ROAD WILL BE RECYCLED FOR OTHER STATE PARKS PROJECTS, AND POSSIBLY CAL FIRE AND THE CITY OF FORT BRAGG FOR ITS COASTAL TRAIL. THE FUNDS FOR THIS PROJECT WERE APPROVED IN THE PROPOSITION 84 BOND ACT OVER FIVE YEARS AGO.

THE OWNER OF THE PALACE HOTEL TOLD THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL THAT SHE IS MAKING PROGRESS IN THE CLEANUP OF THE EMPTY BUILDING.

ELADIA LAINES HIRED LOCAL CONTRACTOR NORMAN HUDSON TO DO THE CLEANUP, WHICH BEGAN AND THEN STOPPED JUST AS QUICKLY DUE TO A LACK OF PERMITS. MORE DELAYS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE LAINES TRIES TO GET A CERTIFIED CONTRACTOR TO INSPECT THE BUILDING FOR ASBESTOS AND LEAD PAINT TO GET A ALL CLEAR FROM THE MENDOCINO COUNTY AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT. ONCE THIS IS DONE, WORK INSIDE THE BUILDING CAN PROCEED. IT WILL LIKELY BEGIN IN ABOUT FOUR TO SIX WEEKS.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IS HOSTING THE ANNUAL COMPETITION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS, WHICH WILL FEATURE AN ESTIMATED 900 ATHLETES IN EVENTS HELD TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
