FATAL CRASH JH 06/19/12

ONE PERSON DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT MONDAY NIGHT.

LITTLE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE THIS MORNING, BUT ACCORDING TO CAL FIRE OFFICIALS, AT ABOUT 6:34 PM LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A CAR ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR THE GRANGE ROAD INTERSECTION OUTSIDE OF MIDDLETOWN. THE DRIVER OF ONE VEHICLE DIED ON THE SCENE. THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE HAD TO BE REMOVED BY CUTTING OF THE ROOF OF THE PICKUP. THE SECOND VICTIM WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. SPECIFIC INFORMATION AS TO THE NAMES AND EXACT CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.

A BIG RIG CRASHED ON HIGHWAY 101 MONDAY MORNING

61 YEAR OLD DAVID EMERGY HERRON OF VALLEJO, WAS HEADING UP 101 NEAR STANDISH HICKEY STATE PARK, WHEN HE LOST CONTROL ON A SHARP TURN, AND OVERTURNED HIS RIG AROUND 3:40 AM YESTERDAY. HERRON WAS FLOWN TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER WITH MODERATE INJURIES.

HIGH SCHOOL GYM BROKEN INTO JH 06/19/12

SEVERAL UKIAH HIGH SCHOOL TROPHIES WERE VANDALIZED AND STOLEN OVER THE WEEKEND.

EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE FOYER OF THE UKIAH HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM, WHERE THEY BROKE ALL THE WINDOWS AND DESTROYED SEVERAL OF THE TROPHIES ON DISPLAY. SOME OF THE TROPHIES WERE FROM THE 1960S AND 1970S AND CANNOT BE REPLACED. A PIECE OF BOTH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY HISTORY HAS BEEN DAMAGED. POLICE SEEK INFORMATION ON INJURED MAN JH 06/19/12

THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS INFORMATION ON AN INJURED MAN.

CLEARLAKE POLICE RESPONDED TO A CALL OF AN INJURED PERSON AT 4780 WEST 40TH AVENUE, AT AROUND 12:30 SUNDAY MORNING. UPON ARRIVAL, OFFICERS DISCOVERED AN UNCONSCIOUS MAN. 44 YEAR OLD EDWARD ALDEN APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A FIGHT EARLIER THAT EVENING. ALDEN HAD SEVERE INJURIES AND WAS AIRLIFTED TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. CLEARLAKE POLICE ASKS ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT TO CONTACT DETECTIVE TIM ALVARADO AT 994-8251.

BOGUS CONTRACTORS JH 06/19/12

DISTRICT ATTORNEY DAVID EYSTER AND THE CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSING BOARD JOINED FORCES LAST WEEK TO INVESTIGATE AND CITE PHONY CONTRACTORS IN THE UKIAH VALLEY.

INVESTIGATORS CALLED LOCAL ADVERTISEMENTS AND SCHEDULED NINE APPOINTMENTS FOR LAST THURSDAY IN A PRE-ARRANGED STING HOUSE. AN UNDERCOVER STATE INVESTIGATOR, POSING AS THE HOMEOWNER, ASKED FOR BIDS ON PROJECTS AT THE HOME. THOSE WHO BID MORE THAN THE $500 LEGAL LIMIT FOR UNLICENSED LABOR, WERE GIVEN A CITATION TO APPEAR IN SUPERIOR COURT FOR THE MISDEMEANOR CHARGE. ONE OF THE UNLICENSED PEOPLE CAUGHT IN THE STING WAS JAMESON JACKSON, WHO SERVED NINE YEARS IN THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY FOR MURDER, AND WAS RELEASED IN 2010. JACKSON WAS PRESENT AND PROVIDED THE GUN USED TO SHOOT AND KILL JOAN LEFEAT IN WILLITS AS SHE BEGGED FOR HER LIFE. OTHERS CITED IN THE STING HAVE CONVICTIONS ON THEIR RECORDS FOR DRUGS, GUNS, ASSAULT, AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFF TOM ALLMAN WANTS TO GIVE A TV PRODUCTION COMPANY UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS TO HIS DEPARTMENTS MARIJUANA ERADICATION ACTIVITIES IN EXCHANGE FOR A $10,000 GIFT FOR THE DEPARTMENT.

A PRODUCTION COMPANY CALLED STUDIO LAMBERT HAS APPROACHED THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT WITH A PROPOSED MINI-SERIES ON MARIJUANA. SHERIFF ALLMAN WAS QUOTED AS SAYING, THE PROPOSED MINISERIES WOULD GIVE HIM CONTROL OVER THE WAY THE COUNTIES RESPONSE TO THE POT CULTURE IS PORTRAYED. HOWEVER, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ISNT CONVINCED. THOUGH ALLMAN HAS SAID HE DOESNT NEED THE BOARDS APPROVAL, THE SUPERVISORS FEEL DIFFERENTLY, BECAUSE THE SHERIFFS OFFICE STAFF ARE COUNTY EMPLOYEES. THE BOARD PLANS TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT THE PROPOSAL TODAY.

WILLITS SUES BROOKTRAILS JH 06/19/12

THE CITY OF WILLITS AND THE BROOKTRAILS TOWNSHIP HAVE FAILED TO RESOLVE THEIR DIFFERENCES THROUGH MITIGATION AND WILL GO TO TRIAL FOR A RESOLUTION.

THE CITY SAYS BROOKTRAILS OWES $285,000 PLUS 12 PERCENT ANNUAL INTEREST, ABOUT $700,000 TOTAL, FOR THE 2004 CITY PURCHASE OF 125 ACRES NEXT TO THE SEWER PLANT NEEDED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATION. THE BROOKTRAILS TOWNSHIP SAYS THE CITY NEVER ASKED FOR APPROVAL FROM BROOKTRAILS TO MAKE THE PURCHASE ON THEIR BEHALF, AND THEY PAID TOO MUCH FOR THE LAND. A TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET FOR OCTOBER 12.

THE BODY OF A TEENAGER WAS FOUND IN CLEARLAKE FRIDAY MORNING.

POLICE HAVE NOT DISCLOSED A NAME, HOWEVER, THE BODY WAS FOUND IN THE AREA WHERE A BOY WENT MISSING THE DAY BEFORE. IT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE BODY OF 17 YEAR OLD MATHEW SCOTT, A DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED BOY THAT WENT MISSING THURSDAY AFTERNOON WHILE PLAYING IN THE WATER ON THE EDGE OF CLEARLAKE.

WOMAN IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER CRASH JH 06/18/12

A CLEARLAKE WOMAN IS IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER A CAR CRASH.

ACCORDING TO CHP, 90 YEAR OLD MARGARET WARD REPORTEDLY DROVE INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE ON A CURVE ON HIGHWAY 20, NEAR BLUE LAKES SATURDAY AFTERNOON. WARD COLLIDED HEAD-ON WITH A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 25 YEAR OLD FREDERICO RAMIREZ OF LOWER LAKE. WARD SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES AND WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. RAMIREZ HAD MINOR INJURIES AND WAS SENT SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL IN LAKEPORT, AND 47 YEAR OLD MARIA SEPULVEDA OF CLEARLAKE, A PASSENGER IN RAMIREZS VEHICLE SUFFERED A SUSPECTED HEAD INJURY, AND WAS FLOW TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.

FUGITIVE ARRESTED JH 06/18/12

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES ASSISTED THE PLACER COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT IN THE APPREHENSION OF 46 YEAR OLD LAWRENCE DEWALD.

DEWALD HAD BEEN A FUGITIVE FOR NEARLY 15 YEARS WITH A FEDERAL ARREST WARRANT FOR UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID PROSECUTION AND A PLACER COUNTY FELONY WARRANT FOR FAILURE TO APPEAR ON PAST CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE FOR SALE. DEWALD WAS LOCATED AT HIS HOME ON LITTLE LAKE ROAD IN MENDOCINO, AND ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS NARCOTICS TASK FORCE SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT LAST WEDNESDAY AT A LOCATION ON HARDING DRIVE IN NICE. A SEARCH RESULTED IN FIVE ARRESTS AND THE SEIZURE OF 475 MARIJUANA PLANTS.

A TRESPASS MARIJUANA GROWER WAS CONVICTED AND SENTENCED ON FRIDAY.

26 YEAR OLD ALEC JOHN HURST OF FORT BRAGG, ADMITTED IN COURT TO MAINTAINING A LOCATION FOR THE CULTIVATION OR STORAGE OF MARIJUANA, A FELONY VIOLATION OF LAW. THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT ORDERED HURST TO COMPLY WITH TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PROBATION FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS, AS WELL AS SERVING 75 DAYS IN THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

CIGARETTE STARTS FIRE JH 06/18/12

A DISCARDED CIGARETTE IGNITED A FIRE SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

ACCORDING TO THE UKIAH VALLEY FIRE DISTRICT, THE FIRE STARTED AROUND 3:15 IN VEGETATION ALONG NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 101 JUST SOUTH OF THE CALPELLA OFF RAMP. SEVERAL HOMES WERE THREATENED, BUT, PERSONNEL FROM THE UVFD, REDWOOD VALLEY-CALPELLA FIRE DEPARTMENT AND CAL FIRE WERE ABLE TO PROTECT THE STRUCTURES. THE FIRE DID BURN WOOD FENCING, VEGETABLE GARDENS, LAWN AND GARDEN EQUIPMENT, PLAT STRUCTURES AND A HOT TUB.

MOONEY DIES JH 06/18/12

FRIENDS, FAMILY AND THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY IN LAKE COUNTY MOURN THE DEATH OF WILLIAM BILL MOONEY, WHO DIED WEDNESDAY.

ACCORDING TO COWORKERS, MOONEY WAS A DEDICATED AND VERY WELL RESPECTED RETIRED MEMBER OF THE LAKEPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT. IN 2011, HE WAS NAMED OFFICER OF THE YEAR BY THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS. MOONEY IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, EVA, CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

A PAIR OF EARTH QUAKES SHOOK THE GEYSERS OVER THE WEEKEND.

THE FIRST QUAKE AT 1:07 FRIDAY AFTERNOON WAS CENTERED JUST 2 MILES NORTH OF THE GEYSERS IN LAKE COUNTY. THE SECOND QUAKE WAS REPORTED AT 1:32 ON SUNDAY ABOUT ONE MILE NORTHWEST OF THE GEYSERS, FIVE MILES WEST OF COBB. BOTH QUAKES MEASURED A 3.0 MAGNITUDE.

CHILD DROWNS IN POND JH 06/15/12

A SMALL CHILD ACCIDENTALLY DROWNS DURING A FAMILY GATHERING YESTERDAY IN WILLITS.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THE CHILDS PARENTS HAD GUESTS WITH OTHER CHILDREN AT THEIR HOME. THE PARENTS WERE WORKING IN THE FRONT YARD AS THE CHILDREN PLAYED. AT APPROXIMATELY 12:45 EVERYONE WENT INTO THE HOME TO HAVE LUNCH. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER THE FATHER OF AN 18 MONTH OLD CHILD WENT TO CHECK ON THE CHILDREN PLAYING IN A BACK BEDROOM, AND DISCOVERED THE 18 MONTH OLD WAS MISSING. THE FAMILY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN SEARCHING FOR THE CHILD. WITHIN MINUTES THE FATHER FOUND THE 18 MONTH OLD CHILD FLOATING LIFELESS IN A POND IN THE FRONT YARD OF THE HOME. THE FATHER BEGAN CPR AS AN AMBULANCE WAS CALLED. THE CHILD WAS TRANSPORTED TO HOWARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WHERE FURTHER LIFE SAVING EFFORTS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE 18 MONTH OLD CHILD HAD ESCAPED FROM THE HOUSE UNDETECTED AND ACCIDENTALLY FELL IN THE POND AND DROWN.

AMBER ALERT ENDS JH 06/15/12

THE THREE MISSING SANTA ROSA CHILDREN, FROM YESTERDAYS AMBER ALERT, ARE SAFE.

THE CHILDRENS FATHER, 25 YEAR OLD ROJO BOJORQUEZ HAD TRIED TO USE HIS CHILDREN TO CONVINCE THEIR MOTHER TO SPEAK TO HIM YESTERDAY AT A SHOPPING CENTER IN SANTA ROSA, DESPITE A RESTRAINING ORDER PROHIBITING HIM FROM CONTACTING HER . WHEN SHE REFUSED, BOJORQUES YELLED THAT HE WAS GOING TO HARM HIMSELF AND THAT SHE WILL NOT SEE THE CHILDREN AGAIN. HE THEN DROVE HIS SUV, WITH THE CHILDREN IN IT, INTO THE FRONT OF THE BUSINESS HIS WIFE WAS IN, CAUSING MINIMAL DAMAGE, BEFORE DRIVING AWAY WITH THE KIDS. AUTHORITIES ACTIVATED A STATE WIDE, CHILD ABDUCTION AMBER ALERT, ACCORDING TO CHP. THE ALERT WAS CANCELLED JUST BEFORE 7 PM WHEN THE CHILDRENS GRANDMOTHER CALLED POLICE AND SAID SHE HAD THE KIDS AT HOWARTH PARK. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME, A PERSON AT A NEARBY MOTEL 6, CALLED POLICE TO REPORT A SIGHTING OF BOJORQUEZ. POLICE ARRESTED HIM THERE

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON JH 06/15/12

A WEDNESDAY MORNING FIGHT IN THE 2200 BLOCK OF SOUTH STATE STREET HAD BROKEN UP BY THE TIME SHERIFFS OFFICERS ARRIVED ON SCENE.

FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT 21 YEAR OLD NOE GARCIA OF UKIAH WAS ARGUING WITH A 17 YEAR OLD MALE RELATIVE, WHEN GARCIA TOOK A GARDEN TOOL HANDLE AWAY FROM THE 17 YEAR OLD A HIT HIM SEVERAL TIMES IN THE HEAD CAUSING MODERATE INJURY. THE MALE VICTIM WAS TREATED AND RELEASED ON THE SCENE. GARCIA. WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT AND BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

MISSING BOY JH 06/15/12

A DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED CLEARLAKE BOY IS MISSING.

17 YEAR OLD MATHEW SCOTT WAS LAST SEEN PLAYING IN THE WATER AT ROCKY BEACH IN OAK COVE ALONG LAKESHORE DRIVE IN CLEARLAKE PARK. ACCORDING TO POLICE, SCOTTS FAMILY AND FRIENDS LOST SIGHT OF HIM AROUND 4 PM YESTERDAY. A SEARCH FOR THE BOY HAS HAD NO RESULTS. HE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING BLACK AND WHITE CHECKERBOARD SHOES AND NO SHIRT. MATHEW SCOTT IS DESCRIBED AS BLACK, 6 FEET, 3 INCHES TALL WEIGHING 200 POUNDS WITH SHORT DARK HAIR. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION TO HIS WHEREABOUTS IS URGED TO CONTACT THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 994-8251.

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS NARCOTICS TASK FORCE ENFORCED SEARCH WARRANTS THAT LEAD TO A LARGE DRUG CACHE.

52 YEAR OLD RUSSELL ALLEN LEE WAS PULLED OVER BY POLICE ON JUNE 1, AND A SEARCH OF HIS VEHICLE REVEALED APPROXIMATELY ONE OUNCE OF METHAMPHETAMINE HIDDEN IN THE TRUNK. AFTER ALSO FINDING AN OPEN CONTAINER OF ALCOHOL AND A CANISTER OF PEPPER SPRAY, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT LEE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND WAS ARRESTED. A SEARCH OF HIS HOME LATER THAT DAY, ON RIVIERA DRIVE IN KELSEYVILLE, REVEALED A LARGE INDOOR MARIJAUNA GARDEN WITH OVER 118 PLANTS. AUTHORITIES SIEZED METHAMPHETAMINE, MARAJAUNA, PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION, SEVERAL GLASS PIPES AND 27 HYPODERMIC SYRINGES. 38 YEAR OLD SUZANNE MICHELLE BOCCALEONI OF KELSEYVILLE, WHO WAS AT THE RESIDENCE WHEN POLICE ARRIVED, WAS ARRESTED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE LAKE COUNTY HILL ROAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

POLICE RAIDS WEDNESDAY MORNING IN NICE, YIELDED MULTIPLE GROW SITES BEING SHUT DOWN.

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS MARIJUANA SUPPRESSION UNIT RAIDED LOCATIONS ON HARDING DRIVE, LOCATED OFF PYLE ROAD WHERE THEY FOUND 4 TO 5 GROW SITES. ABOUT 400 POT PLANTS WERE PULLED AND SEVERAL PEOPLE ARRESTED.

CLOSING ARGUMENTS IN MURDER TRIAL JH 06/14/12

ATTORNEYS BEGAN CLOSING ARGUMENTS THURSDAY IN THE LENGTHY, SIMULTANEOUS TRIALS OF TWO MEN CHARGED WITH KILLING A 4 YEAR OLD CLEARLAKE BOY AND WOUNDING FIVE OTHERS LAST YEAR.

24 YEAR OLD JOSEPH LOPEZ, AND 22 YEAR OLD PAUL BRADEN ARE ACCUSED OF THE JUNE, 2011 AMBUSH STYLE SHOOTING THAT WAS A RESULT OF TEENAGE BOYS FIGHTING DAYS EARLIER. DURING THE SHOOTING, 4 YEAR OLD SKYLER RAPP WAS STRUCK WITH OVER A DOZEN PELLETS FROM A SHOTGUN BLAST AND DIED AT THE SCENE.

LOPEZ AND BRADENS TRIALS ARE BEING HELD SEPARATELY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME COURTROOM. CLOSING ARGUMENTS FOR LOPEZ WERE HEARD YESTERDAY, AND WILL BE HEARD FOR BRADEN TODAY. THE CHARGES AGAINST LOPEZ AND BRADEN ADD UP TO POTENTIAL LIFE SENTENCES. A THIRD MAN, KEVIN RAY STONE, PLEADED NO CONTEST IN NOVEMBER TO ACCESSORY TO MURDER AND CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT ROBBERY. HE IS A KEY WITNESS IN THE TRIALS OF THE OTHER TWO MEN. STONE FACES UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON WHEN HE IS SENTENCED.

ACCORDING TO CITY OFFICIALS, THE GOLF COURSE IS NOT SELF SUFFICIENT AND IS LOOSING MONEY. TAYMAN PARK GOLF GROUP, WHICH OPERATES THE COURSES PRO SHOP, HAS COLLABORATED ON AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY TO RUN THE COARSE WHILE TAKING OVER MUCH OF THE COURSES DEBT, AS WELL AS MAKING IMPROVEMENTS. THE GOLF LEAD WORKER POSITION WILL BE MAINTAINED, BUT THREE MAINTENANCE POSITIONS WILL BE ELIMINATED. IT IS POSSIBLE TAYMAN MAY HIRE BACK THE EMPLOYEES. VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER JH 06/14/12

A JUDGE RULED TUESDAY THAT 28 YEAR OLD DANNY FIELDS II OF CLEARLAKE WILL STAND TRIAL FOR CHARGES RELATED TO THE DEATH OF 31 YEAR OLD JENNIFER CLARK OF CLEARLAKE.

ALLEGEDLY, FIELDS THEN WALKED AWAY FROM THE CRASH WHERE HE CLAIMS HE GOT A RIDE FROM AN UNKNOWN PERSON TO TOWER MART IN LOWER LAKE. HE THEN CALLED HIS PARENTS FOR A RIDE TO THE HOSPITAL. WHEN QUESTIONED BY POLICE, FIELDS COULD NOT GIVE ANY SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT, AND CLAIMED TO NOT KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE WAS IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. CLARK WAS LATER FOUND DEAD INSIDE THE ABANDONED VEHICLE. A TRIAL DATE IS SET FOR SEPTEMBER.

THE CARETAKER OF TWO PIT BULLS BELIEVED RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ATTACK ON FOUR PET LLAMAS AT A ROBINSON CREEK PROPERTY LAST WEEK SAID TUESDAY, HE BELIEVES THE DOGS HAVE BEEN MISTAKENLY CONDEMNED FOR BLOOD SPILLED BY COYOTES OR SOME OTHER PREDATOR.

RICHARD BIER, WHOSE RESCUE DOG, COCOA, WAS SHOT DEAD DURING THE INCIDENT, SAID THE 4 YEAR OLD PIT BULL FEARED NOISE AND VIOLENCE AND COULD NOT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE ATTACK THAT KILLED TWO LLAMAS AND SEVERELY INJURED A THIRD. BUT AUTHORITIES SAY DEPUTIES CALLED TO THE SCENE SAW THE DOGS REPEATEDLY CIRCLE BACK TOWARD THE SURVIVING LLAMAS AND DISPLAYED AGGRESSION TOWARD THE OFFICERS. THE SHERIFFS OFFICE SAID, THE DOGS REPRESENT A THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY. DEPUTIES ONLY SHOT AND KILLED ONE DOG AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO SUBDUE THEM FAILED. THE SECOND DOG IS IN 10 DAY QUARANTINE TO DETERMINE IF IT COULD HAVE PASSED RABIES TO THE INJURED LLAMA, THAT SURVIVED THE ATTACK. THE DOG WILL THEN BE PUT DOWN.

DOGS ATTACK LAMA JH 06/11/12

SHIRIFFS DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A CALL IN THE 2500 BLOCK OF ROBINSON CREEK ROAD FOR A REPORT OF DOGS ATTACKING LLAMAS.

AT APPROXIMATELY 11:45 THURSDAY NIGHT, THE OWNER OF THE LLAMAS REPORTED HEARING THE ANIMALS BEING ATTACKED, AND WENT OUTSIDE TO INVESTIGATE, WHERE SHE FOUND TWO PIT BULL TERRIERS HAD KILLED ONE LLAMA AND MORTALLY WOUNDED ANOTHER. A THIRD LLAMA APPEARED NOT TO BE WOUNDED, AND A FORTH WAS MISSING. BY THE TIME DEPUTIES ARRIVED, THE PIT BULLS HAD RETURNED AND WERE GOING AFTER THE REMAINING LLAMAS. DEPUTIES WERE FORCED TO SHOOT ONE OF THE DOGS, AND THE OTHER RAN AWAY. TAGS ON THE DECEASED DOG LED AUTHORITIES TO THE OWNER, WHERE THEY FOUND THE SECOND PIT BULL. IT WAS TRANSPORTED TO ANIMAL CONTROL FOR QUARANTINE.

FIRE DESTROYS HOME JH 06/11/12

A HOME FIRE IN LOWER LAKE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

AROUND 3:50 AM, FRIDAY MORNING, EMERGENCY CREWS RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A STRUCTURE FIRE IN THE TEN THOUSAND BLOCK OF BELL CIRCLE IN LOWER LAKE. A DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME AND SURROUNDING DECK WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE, THAT SPREAD TO SURROUNDING BRUSH, HAD LAKE COUNTY FIRE CREWS BATTLING FOR HOURS TO PROTECT NEIGHBORING HOMES THREATENED BY FLAMES. NONE WERE DAMAGED. NO ONE WAS LIVING IN THE HOME THAT BURNED, AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

25 YEAR OLD ANITA JACKSON LOST CONTROL OF HER 1994 FORD RANGER ON HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH OF LAYTONVILLE, FRIDAY MORNING AROUND 10:30 AM. THE TRUCK EXITED THE ROADWAY AND HIT AN EMBANKMENT, KILLING JACKSON. HER 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, TARA SLICHTER, SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES. SHE WAS FLOWN TO UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER. THE 2 YEAR OLD WAS SAID TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION SATURDAY.

HEAD-ON CAR CRASH SENDS 6 TO HOSPITAL

47 YEAR OLD ANNETTE SYKORAFINCH WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR HOFACKER LANE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 12:20 PM. SYKORAFINCH LOST CONTROL OF HER SUV, AND SKIDDED INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE BEFORE IT ROLLED INTO THE PATH OF ANOTHER TRUCK, DRIVEN BY 39 YEAR OLD MATHEW ELLIOTT OF LAKEPORT. ELLIOT HAD FOUR PASSENGERS, ONE OF WHICH WAS 35 YEAR OLD SHANA SMITH OF MIDDLETOWN. SMITH, ALONG WITH ELLIOTT AND SYKORAFINCH WERE FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH MAJOR TO MODERATE INJURIES. THREE OTHER PASSENGERS IN ELLIOTTS TRUCK WERE TAKEN TO ST HELENA CLEARLAKE HOSPITAL.

CAMPGROUND MURDER TRIAL ENDS WITH GUILTY VERDICTS JH 06/11/12

A MENDOCINO COUNTY JURY RETURNED GUILTY VERDICTS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AGAINST 33 YEAR OLD MARVIN DOUGLAS JR, AND 23 YEAR OLD SIMON THORNTON.

JOHNSON AND THORNTON WERE INVOLVED IN AN AUGUST 2011 MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER AT BUSHAY CAMPGROUNDS AT LAKE MENDOCINO. JOHNSON FACES UP TO 33 YEARS TO LIFE, AND THORNTON, 34 YEARS TO LIFE, WHEN THEY ARE SENTENCED ON JUNE 29. TWO OTHER DEFENDANTS IN THIS CASE, 31 YEAR OLD WILLIAM HALE CROCKER, AND 36 YEAR OLD JOSEPH SCHNEBLY, ARE STILL AWAITING TRIAL.

LITTLE OWIE OUT OF ICU JH 06/11/12

OWEN KENNEY, THE WILLITS BOY WHO CONTRACTED BACTERIAL MENINGITIS, IS OUT OF ICU.

LITTLE OWIE IS RECOVERING AFTER OVER HALF A DOZEN SURGERIES. DOCTORS HAD TO REMOVE THE LITTLE GUYS FOOT AND ANKLE, AND HE HAS HAD A SERIES OF SKIN GRAFTS SINCE THE ATTACK OF BACTERIAL MENINGITIS. ITS LIKELY MORE SURGERIES WILL BE REQUIRED, BUT FOR NOW, OWEN IS RESTING AND DOING BETTER.

CROSSWALK REHAB CONTINUES JH 06/11/12

CROSSWALK REHAB CONTINUES IN FORT BRAGG THIS WEEK.

SECTIONS OF STREETS AND INTERSECTIONS WILL BE CLOSED FROM 7 AM TO 7 PM AS CROSSWALKS ARE UPDATED. TODAY, AND TOMORROW THE INTERSECTION AT LAUREL AND MAIN WILL BE CLOSED. ALL WORK IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETE BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

PAVING PROJECT JH 06/11/12

TWO SEPARATE PAVING PROJECTS BEGIN ON HIGHWAY 20 TODAY.

THE ROAD WORK WILL BE PREFORMED ABOUT 7 MILES EAST OF FORT BRAGG TO ABOUT 6 MILES WEST OF WILLITS. ONE WAY CONTROLLED TRAFFIC WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 6 PM MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, AND FROM 5 AM TO 3 PM ON FRIDAYS. MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT 10 MINUTE DELAYS AT UP TO THREE LOCATIONS AT A TIME. WORK IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF OCTOBER.
