AIR FRESHENER ATTACK JH 07/27/12

A COVELO MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING AND THREATENING HIS MOTHER.

44 YEAR OLD CLAYTON BRITTON THREATENED TO STAB A MAN AT HIS MOTHERS COVELO HOME TUESDAY EVENING. BRITTON THEN KICKED IN THE DOOR TO HIS 69 YEAR OLD MOTHERS BEDROOM, GRABBED HER, SPRAYED HER IN THE FACE WITH AIR FRESHENER AND THREW HER TO THE GROUND. SHE SUFFERED ONLY MINOR INJURIES THAT DIDNT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT. BRITTON WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

WOMAN ASSAULTS HOSPITAL STAFF JH 07/27/12

POLICE WERE CONTACTED LATE MONDAY NIGHT ABOUT A WOMAN OUT OF CONTROL AT THE MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL.

19 YEAR OLD ALISSA WOLF OF LAYTONVILLE WAS YELLING PROFANITIES AT HOSPITAL STAFF AND POLICE ONCE THEY ARRIVED. OFFICERS HAD TO FORCE HER ONTO A GURNEY FOR EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT, DURING WHICH SHE HEAD BUTTED A STAFF MEMBER TWICE CAUSING INJURY. ONCE WOLFE WAS MEDICALLY CLEARED, SHE WAS ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FOREST CLUB LIQUOR LICENSE SUSPENSION JH 07/27/12

THE FOREST CLUB HAD ITS LIQUOR LICENSE SUSPENDED.

ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL, THE UKIAH BAR HAS ALLOWED A MINOR TO ENTER AND REMAIN ON THE PREMISES TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. THE BAR HAS ALSO HAD 45 CALLS FOR SERVICE TO THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT IN RECENT MONTHS. THESE EVENTS HAVE LEAD TO THE 30 DAY LICENSE SUSPENSION, AS WELL AS TWO YEARS OF PROBATION. ANOTHER SIMILAR VIOLATION DURING THE PROBATION PERIOD, COULD COST THE BAR ITS LIQUOR LICENSE TO BE REVOKED PERMANENTLY. ABC ALSO REPORTED THAT THE 711 CLUB, ANOTHER BAR IN UKIAH, HAD ITS LIQUOR LICENSE REVOKED PERMANENTLY EARLIER THIS YEAR.

LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL SEATS OPEN JH 07/27/12

THREE LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL SEATS OPEN IN NOVEMBER

THE SEATS UP FOR ELECTION THIS YEAR ARE CURRENTLY HELD BY BOB RUMFELT, SUZANNE LYONS AND ROY PARMENTIER. THE FILING PERIOD IS OPEN FOR THE SEATS, AND THE DEADLINE TO GET THE NOMINATION PAPERS FILED IS AUGUST 10TH. EACH CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR THE COUNCIL MUST BE NOMINATED BY NOT LESS THAN 20, NOR MORE THAN 30 REGISTERED VOTERS.

SUPERVISORS VOTE TO CONTINUE BROWN ACT JH 07/27/12

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED A RESOLUTION AFFIRMING COUNTY POLICY TO CONTINUE TO COMPLY WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE BROWN ACT.

THE BROWN ACT WAS ENACTED IN 1953 TO ENSURE THE PUBLICS RIGHT TO ACCESS AND PARTICIPATE IN GOVERNMENT MEETINGS.

LIVE MUSIC PERMIT GRANTED TO THE OFFICE JH 07/27/12

THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION GRANTED THE OFFICE A MAJOR USE PERMIT WEDNESDAY THAT WILL ALLOW THE BAR TO HAVE LIVE MUSIC.

IN A COMPROMISE REACHED BETWEEN THE BUSINESS, ITS NEIGHBORS, AND THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE BAR WILL BE ALLOWED TO HAVE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ONLY TWICE A MONTH ON EITHER FRIDAY OR SATURDAY. THE COMMISSION VOTED 4 TO 1 TO APPROVE THE PERMIT.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT ON 101 JH 07/27/12

A PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT WILL BEGIN ON HIGHWAY 101 IN WILLITS ON MONDAY, JULY 30.

THE CROSSWALK SAFETY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT WILL INCLUDE PEDESTRIAN ACTIVATED IN-ROAD LIGHTING AND A MEDIAN ISLAND TO PROVIDE REFUGE WHILE CROSSING THE FOUR LANES ON HIGHWAY 101 AT GREGORY LANE. TRAFFIC WILL BE RESTRICTED TO ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION FROM NOON TO 6 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE PROJECT IS ANTICIPATED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF AUGUST.

FORT BRAGG AQUATIC CENTER REOPENS JH 07/27/12

FORT BRAGG WILL REOPEN ITS GRAND AQUATIC CENTERS POOLS TOMORROW, SIX MONTHS AFTER THEY WERE SHUT DOWN BY A LACK OF FUNDING.

THE REOPENING RESULTS FROM A HALF-PERCENTAGE POINT SALES TAX INCREASE APPROVED BY VOTERS IN MARCH. THE TAX IS EXPECTED TO RAISE $740,000 ANNUALLY FOR THE CENTER. TOMORROWS GRAND REOPENING WILL INCLUDE A RAFFLE, DIVING EXHIBITIONS, GAMES, CONTESTS, FOOD AND MORE.

SANTA ROSA HIGH GRADUATE MAKES OLYMPIC TEAM JH 07/27/12

A SANTA ROSA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE WILL BE COMPETING IN THE LONDON OLYMPICS.

26 YEAR OLD SILAS STAFFORD HAS HAD QUITE THE JOURNEY TO GET TO THIS POINT. GETTING TO THE OLYMPICS IN THE LOW-VISIBILITY, UNDER FUNDED SPORT OF ROWING, STAFFORD SLEPT ON COUCHES, MOVED 5 TIMES, AND SPENT THE SUMMER OF 2010 CRASHING UNDER A POOL TABLE INSIDE A CATHOLIC CHURCH IN PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY. HE ALSO MANAGED TO EARN A MASTERS DEGREE IN GEOLOGY WHILE TRAINING. AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR, STAFFORD WAS CONSIDERED A STRONG CANDIDATE FOR THE OLYMPIC TEAM, UNTIL HE BROKE A RIB IN MARCH. HE WAS FORCED TO REST FOR SIX WEEKS, DURING WHICH THE USAS EIGHT MAN BOAT WAS SELECTED, THEN THE FOUR MAN. ALL THAT WAS LEFT WAS THE TWO MAN. TOM PESZEK AND STAFFORD QUALIFIED ON JUNE 14. YOU SHOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE STAFFORD WALKING INTO THE OLYMPIC STADIUM WITH THE REST OF TEAM USA, DURING TONIGHTS OPENING CEREMONY.
