THE NORTH PASS FIRE RAGES ON AND CONSUMED SEVERAL THOUSAND MORE ACRES OVER THE WEEKEND.

THE FIRE HAD GROWN TO JUST OVER 27,000 ACRES BY SUNDAY EVENING, AND IS 34% CONTAINED. THE BLAZE CONTINUES TO THREATEN 75 RESIDENCES, 5 COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES AND 80 OUTBUILDINGS. A FIRE ENGINE WAS ALSO SEVERELY DAMAGED ON SATURDAY. PRELIMINARY REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE FOUR MAN CREW ON THE ENGINE IS FINE. A MANDATORY EVACUATION IS STILL IN PLACE FOR THE AREAS OF INDIAN DICK ROAD, MENDOCINO PASS ROAD, AND BLANDS COVE ROAD. CREDIT UNION ROBBERY JH 08/27/12

TWO SUSPECTS ARE IN CUSTODY FOR ROBBING THE REDWOOD CREDIT UNION IN POINT ARENA.

THE SUSPECTS, ONE ARMED WITH A REVOLVER, FLED WITH APPROXIMATELY $50,000 DOLLARS, AFTER DEMANDING THE EMPLOYEES EMPTY THEIR CASH DRAWERS, THURSDAY AFTERNOON. WITNESSES WERE ABLE TO NOTE THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER ON THE JEEP THE SUSPECTS FLED IN. A CHP OFFICER THEN OBSERVED THE JEEP ON FISH ROCK ROAD WHERE IT STOPPED MOMENTARILY, AND ONE SUSPECT, 39 YEAR OLD RAYMOND OJEDA GOT OUT, BEFORE THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON. OJEDA WAS QUICKLY ARRESTED. SHERIFFS DEPUTIES THEN PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER A SHORT TIME LATER. AFTER A SHORT STAND OFF WITH THE OTHER SUSPECT, 55 YEAR OLD FRED ORLANDO, HE WAS DETAINED AND ARRESTED. A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THE GUN AND STOLEN CASH. BOTH OJEDA AND ORLANDO WERE BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

UKIAH RESIDENTS DIE IN FATAL CRASH JH 08/27/12

AUTHORITIES HAVE IDENTIFIED TWO OF THE THREE PEOPLE WHO DIED IN A CRASH ON HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH OF HOPLAND.

THE DECEASED DRIVER WHO LOST CONTROL OF HER HONDA, CROSSED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND WAS BROADSIDED BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE, WAS IDENTIFIED AS 35 YEAR OLD MIREYA AYALA OF UKIAH. SHE HAD THREE PASSENGERS, TWO OF WHOM DIED, INCLUDING HER ONE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, KAREN AYALA. ALSO IN THE HONDA WAS AN UNIDENTIFIED MALE AND A 4 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH MAJOR INJURIES. IN THE TAHOE THAT BROADSIDED THE HONDA WAS DRIVER, 35 YEAR OLD TENNILLE REYES OF CLOVERDALE, AND HER CHILDREN, 8 YEAR OLD JOHN REYES AND 5 YEAR OLD SILVIA REYES. THE MOTHER AND DAUGHTER WERE TAKEN TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER AND THE 8 YEAR OLD BOY WAS FLOWN TO OAKLAND CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, ALL WITH MODERATE INJURIES.

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE JH 08/27/12

THE FORT BRAGG POLICE RECEIVED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM BUSINESSES DOWNTOWN ABOUT SUBJECTS LOITERING AND CAUSING PROBLEMS.

OFFICERS ON FOOT PATROL CONTACTED A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS ON NORTH FRANKLIN STREET. ONE SUBJECT, 19 YEAR OLD SEAN SCOTT BLANEY CONSENTED TO A SEARCH, THAT TURNED UP METHAMPHETAMINE, A MORPHINE PILL AND A PIPE. BLANEY WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FIVE ARRESTED IN POT GROW JH 08/27/12

A SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO FIVE ARRESTS, AND SEIZURE OF MARIJUANA, FIREARMS AND CASH.

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS NARCOTICS TASK FORCE SERVED THE WARRANT AT THE RESIDENCE O 53 YEAR OLD RONALD JOSEPH WHITNEY ON HIGHWAY 29 IN MIDDLETOWN. TWO SUBJECTS RAN FROM THE PROPERTY AND FIVE OTHERS WERE DETAINED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THOSE DETAINED ARE, RONALD WHITNEY, 25 YEAR OLD AARON ALEXANDER OF LANCASTER PENNSYLVANIA, 30 YEAR OLD AUSTIN ALEXANDER OF MAUI HAWAII, ALONG WITH 25 YEAR OLD AARON WHITNEY, AND 38 YEAR OLD ERNEST COSSE, BOTH OF MIDDLETOWN. THE SEARCH TURNED UP APPROXIMATELY 198 MARIJUANA PLANTS, 20 POUNDS OF PROCESSED POT, CONCENTRATED CANNABIS, 3 FIREARMS, AND JUST OVER $53,000 DOLLARS IN CASH. ALL FIVE SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY HILL ROAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

CAR THEFT AND KIDNAPPING JH 08/27/12

A MAN STOLE AN SUV FROM THE FORT BRAGG CICLE K, THAT HAD A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL SLEEPING IN IT.

FORT BRAGG POLICE WERE RESPONDING TO THE CARJACKING OF THE GOLD SUV YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN OFFICERS SPOTTED THE STOLEN VEHICLE TRAVELING ON MAIN STREET AND GAVE PURSUIT, ENDING WITH IT CRASHING INTO A HEDGE. THE DRIVER, IDENTIFIED AS JESSE WAYNE BACON, ATTEMPTED TO FLEE BUT WAS APPREHENDED QUICKLY. ACCORDING TO POLICE, THE 14-YEAR OLD WAS NOT WITH HIM, AND IT WAS DETERMINED SHE HAD BEEN DROPPED OFF NEAR MCDONALD’S SOON AFTER BACON DISCOVERED SHE WAS IN THE VEHICLE.

AFTER BACON’S ARREST, POLICE SAID THEY LINKED HIM TO SEVERAL CAR BURGLARIES THAT OCCURRED THE DAY BEFORE ON NORTH MAIN STREET. BACON WAS ARRESTED ON CHARGES THAT INCLUDED CARJACKING, VEHICLE THEFT, KIDNAPPING, POSSESSING OF STOLEN PROPERTY, AND VARIOUS NARCOTIC VIOLATIONS.

ROAD CLOSURE DUE TO FIRE JH 08/27/12

CALTRANS HAS ANNOUNCE THAT HIGHWAY 299 IS CLOSED DUE TO FIRE.

LAKE COUNTY BUDGET JH 08/27/12

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HOLD A HEARING ON THE COUNTYS FINAL RECOMMENDED BUDGET IN A SPECIAL MEETING THIS WEEK.

AT A TIME WHEN MOST BUDGETS ARE BEING SLASHED, OFFICIALS SAID THIS BUDGET ALLOWS DEPARTMENTS TO MAINTAIN EXISTING SERVICE LEVELS AND WILL ENABLE THE COUNTY TO CONTINUE INVESTING IN SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES. A FIRE ENGINE WAS ALSO SEVERELY DAMAGED ON SATURDAY. PRELIMINARY REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE FOUR MAN CREW ON THE ENGINE IS FINE. A MANDATORY EVACUATION IS STILL IN PLACE FOR THE AREAS OF INDIAN DICK ROAD, MENDOCINO PASS ROAD, AND BLANDS COVE ROAD. PROCESSION PLANNED FOR LOCAL SOLDIER KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN JH 08/27/12

THE BODY OF A YOUNG LOCAL SOLDIER KILLED EARLIER THIS MONTH IN AFGHANISTAN WILL RETURN HOME THIS WEEK.

23 YEAR OLD SGT. RICHARD ALLEN ESSEX OF KELSEYVILLE DIED ON AUGUST 16 IN A BLACK HAWK HELICOPTER CRASH. ESSEX WAS THE DOOR GUNNER ON THE HELICOPTER, AND DIED WITH 10 OTHERS, INCLUDING 6 OTHER MEMBERS OF THE US MILITARY. A PROCESSION IN HIS HONOR IS PLANNED THROUGH THE STREETS OF KELSEYVILLE AND LAKEPORT TOMORROW AT NOON. ON SATURDAY, A PUBLIC MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT KELSEYVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AT 11 AM.
