THE NORTH PASS FIRE DESTROYED SEVERAL HOMES THIS WEEK AS IT CONTINUES TO SPREAD NORTH TOWARD THE MIDDLE FORK OF THE EEL RIVER.

CAL FIRE HAS ADJUSTED THE ESTIMATED ACREAGE CONSUMED BY THE FIRE TO 32,675, WITH 35% CONTAINMENT AS OF LAST NIGHT. FOUR HOMES, SEVEN BUILDINGS AND A FIRE ENGINE WERE DESTROYED, WITH ABOUT 74 HOMES, 77 OUTBUILDINGS AND FIVE COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES STILL THREATENED. THREE INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. POINT ARENA BANK ROBBERS ARRAIGNED JH 08/29/12

SUSPECTS IN THE POINT ARENA BANK ROBBERY WERE ARRAIGNED MONDAY.

FREDRICK JOSEPH ORLANDOS BAIL WAS SET AT $1.125 MILLION DOLLARS, AND RAYMON JESUS OJEDAS BAIL WAS SET AT $100,000 DOLLARS. ORLANDOS BAIL IS SO MUCH HIGHER BECAUSE HE NOT ONLY USED A FIREARM DURING THE ROBBERY, BUT HE HAS A HISTORY WITH AT LEAST THREE OTHER BANK ROBBERIES AND A PRIOR RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY. ORLANDO FACES UP TO 45 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON IF CONVICTED, AND OJEDA FACES 6 YEARS. THE PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 7.

MOTORCYCLIST INJURED IN CRASH ON HIGHWAY 101 JH 08/29/12

A MOTORCYCLIST SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES FOLLOWING A COLLISION ON THE GREEN BRIDGE ON HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH OF HOPLAND ON MONDAY.

ACCORDING TO CHP, A MOTOR HOME, DRIVEN BY 45 YEAR OLD DAVID ADDINGTON OF SAN FRANCISCO, LOST A CARGO DOOR WHILE CROSSING THE BRIDGE. A TRUCK, DRIVEN BY 27 YEAR OLD WESLEY GARSIDE OF ESCALON HIT THE DOOR, WHICH CAUSED THE TRUCKS FUEL TANK TO LEAK, UNBEKNOWNST TO GARSIDE. BOTH DRIVERS PULLED OVER, AND GARSIDE LET ADDINGTON INTO THE TRUCK TO GO RETRIEVE THE DOOR. AS THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN ON THE BRIDGE TO REMOVE THE DOOR FROM THE ROADWAY, 45 YEAR OLD ROBERT HERNANDEZ, DRIVING A VAN, SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN HE SAW THE LEAKING FUEL TANK ON THE TRUCK AHEAD OF HIM. FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, A MOTORCYCLE, RIDDEN BY 58 YEAR OLD RICKY JAMES OF TULSA OKLAHOMA DID NOT SLOW AND REAR ENDED THE VAN. JAMES WAS TAKEN TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST JH 08/29/12

A TRAFFIC STOP IN GUALALA LED TO A DRUG BUST.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES PULLED OVER 72 YEAR OLD JOHN CULLEN IN A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP. THE DEPUTY NOTICED THE ODOR OF MARIJUANA AND SEARCHED THE VEHICLE, REVEALING APPROXIMATELY 27 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE, 5 GRAMS OF POT, SCALES AND OTHER ITEMS USED IN PACKAGING METH FOR SALE. CULLEN WAS ALSO FOUND TO BE DRIVING WITHOUT A VALID LICENSE. HE WAS ARRESTED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

THIRD FATALITY IDENTIFIED JH 08/29/12

THE THIRD PERSON WHO DIED IN A CRASH ON HIGHWAY 101 LAST THURSDAY, HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED.

THE VICTIM WAS 29 YEAR OLD JOSE GUADALUPE SOLORIO-LEON OF UKIAH. THE CRASH ALSO KILLED THE VEHICLES DRIVER, 35 YEAR OLD MIREYA AYALA OF UKIAH, AND HER 1 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER KAREN AYALA. HER OTHER DAUGHTER, 4 YEAR OLD JASMIN AYALA, WAS INJURED. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED, WHEN AYALA, FOR UNKNOWN REASONS CROSSED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC SOUTH OF HOPLAND, AND WAS BROADSIDED BY AN SUV. THE THREE PEOPLE IN THE SUV RECEIVED MODERATE INJURIES.

SHOOTING SUSPECT LINKED TO HOME INVASION JH 08/29/12

A CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATION INTO AN ALLEGED HOME INVASION ROBBERY LAST WEEK HAS LINKED THE CRIME TO A MIDDLETOWN MAN ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND FOR A SHOOTING.

ACCORDING TO POLICE, 33 YEAR OLD JOHN CHESTER COOK WAS IDENTIFIED BY A WITNESS, AS A SUSPECT IN THE HOME INVASION, JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE COOK ALLEGEDLY SHOT A KELSEYVILLE MAN IN THE STOMACH DURING AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY. POLICE ALSO ARRESTED 23 YEAR OLD JOHN WILLIAM BROTT OF CLEARLAKE FOR HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE ROBBERY. BROTT AND COOK ALLEGEDLY BEAT 63 YEAR OLD PAUL NORSON WITH A HANDGUN, THEN RANSACKED HIS RESIDENCE STEALING TWO GUITARS, A WALLET AND CELL PHONE. POLICE ARE ASKING ANYONE WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS CASE TO CONTACT DETECTIVE ALVARADO AT 994-8251.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO POT BUST JH 08/29/12

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES PULLED A VEHICLE OVER FOR A TRAFFIC VIOLATION, AND FOUND MARIJUANA.

THE TRAFFIC STOP WAS IN THE AREA OF NORTH HIGHWAY 101 AND BELL SPRINGS ROAD. THE DEPUTY NOTICED THE STRONG ODOR OF MARIJUANA COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN QUESTIONED, THE DRIVER, 37 YEAR OLD ANTHONY PURDY OF CHICO SAID HE HAD A LEGAL RIGHT TO POSSES THE POT, BUT COULDNT PROVIDE ANY PROOF. HE VOLUNTARILY HANDED OVER 3 GRAMS OF POT TO THE DEPUTY. A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED AN ADDITIONAL 108 GRAMS OF MARIJUANA AND $4800 DOLLARS IN CASH. PURDY WAS ARRESTED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

THE NORTH PASS FIRE CONTINUES TO BURN, BUT MADE NO NEW PROGRESS OVERNIGHT.

CAL FIRE HAS ADJUSTED THE ESTIMATED ACREAGE CONSUMED BY THE FIRE TO 32,675, WITH 35% CONTAINMENT AS OF THIS MORNING. FOUR HOMES, SEVEN BUILDINGS AND A FIRE ENGINE HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, WITH ABOUT 64 HOMES, 65 OUTBUILDINGS AND FIVE COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES STILL THREATENED. THREE INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED SO FAR. AT A SPECIAL MEETING, THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO APPOINT VICE MAYOR DOUG CRANE AND COUNCIL MEMBER MARI RODIN TO NEW TERMS RATHER THAN HOLD AN ELECTION WITH NO CHALLENGERS.

CITY TREASURER R. ALLEN CARTER WAS ALSO APPOINTED TO ANOTHER TERM SINCE HE HAD NO CHALLENGERS EITHER.

RESORT GETS MAKEOVER AND STARS ON TV JH 08/29/12

A HISTORIC RESORT ONCE OWNED BY BEATLES SPIRITUAL LEADER MAHARESHI IS NOT ONLY RE-OPENING, BUT ALSO STARRING ON TV.

HOBERGS CLUB RESORT PROGRESS WILL BE CHRONICLED ON EXTREME RESORT MAKEOVER, A REALITY TELEVISION SHOW. THE RESORT WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT IN THE LATE 1800S AND WAS ONE OF THE LARGEST PRIVATE RESORTS IN THE STATE UNTIL IT WAS SOLD BY THE HOBERGS TO THE MAHARESHI IN THE 1970S. IT WAS TRANSFORMED INTO A TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION CENTER FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS UNTIL ITS SALE TO THE CURRENT OWNERS. COBB MOUNTAIN DAYS WILL SERVE AS A SOFT OPENING WITH SHOWS IN HOBERGS MUSIC HALL STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 14.
