SHOPLIFTING LEADS TO TWO WITH FEDERAL ARREST WARRANTS JH 09/19/12 TWOP PEOPLE WITH FEDERAL ARREST WARRANTS WERE FOUND, WHEN FORT BRAGG POLICE RESPONDED TO A REPORTED SHOPLIFTER AT RITE AID. 47 YEAR OLD ANTHONY KRIS YEARWOOD WAS DETAINED AT THE RITE AID ON SATURDAY, FOR SHOPLIFTING A PAIR OF GLASSES. A RECORDS CHECK BY POLICE REVEALED A US MARSHAL'S FEDERAL ARREST WARRANT FOR NARCOTICS. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT YEARWOODS COMMON LAW WIFE, 39 YEAR OLD KRISTINA SHEDD, WAS ALSO WANTED FOR A US MARSHALS FEDERAL ARREST WARRANT FOR NARCOTICS POSSESSION. SHEDD WAS LOCATED AT A RESIDENCE ON AIRPORT ROAD. BOTH WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL. 

A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED ASSAULT, BURGLARY AND CHASE JH 09/19/12

A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER AN ASSAULT, A BURGLARY, AND A HIGH SPEED VEHICLE CHASE.

IT STARTED MONDAY MORNING WHEN A 32 YEAR OLD UNIDENTIFIED MAN GAVE A RIDE TO A MAN TO A REDWOOD VALLEY LOCATION, WHERE HE SAID HE HAD FAMILY. THE DRIVER WAS THEN ASSAULTED BY THE MAN HE GAVE A RIDE TO. MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARRIVED TO INVESTIGATE, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HOME HAD BEEN BURGLARIZED BY A FAMILY MEMBER, 21 YEAR OLD KEVIN KUINTZLE. IT WAS THEN LEARNED THAT A CORVETTE HAD JUST BEEN STOLEN AT A NEARBY RESIDENCE. DEPUTIES SPOTTED THE CORVETTE ON 101, THEN AGAIN ON NORTH BUSH STREET IN UKIAH, AND PURSUED. THE CHASE HIT SPEEDS OF 70 TO 80 MILES PER HOUR, BEFORE DEPUTIES CALLED IT OFF FOR PUBLIC SAFETY REASONS, AS THEY WERE NEAR AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE CORVETTE WAS AGAIN SPOTTED ON CLAY STREET, AND THE CHASE WAS ON AGAIN. THIS TIME KUINTZLE TURNED ON MYSZKA PLACE AND EVENTUALLY INTO A DRIVEWAY, WHERE HE WAS DETAINED AND ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

UKIAH HOME DESTROYED IN FIRE JH 09/19/12

A UKIAH FAMILY LOST THEIR HOME AND ONE OF THEIR PETS, WHEN A FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN ON LUCE AVENUE.

EVONNE FENTON SAID A PAN ON THE STOVE CAUGHT FIRE SHORTYL AFTER NOON YESTERDAY, AND THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER SHE FOUND WAS NOT WORKING. THIRTEEN PEOPLE LIVED IN THE HOME, INCLUDING HER HUSBAND AND THEIR TEN CHILDREN. NONE OF THE FAMILY WAS INJURED, BUT ONE OF THE THREE FAMILY DOGS DID NOT MAKE IT OUT.

SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO METH BUST JH 09/19/12

A SEARCH WARRANT LED TO TWO ARRESTS AND METHAMPHETAMINE.

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S NARCOTICS TASK FORCE SEVED THE WARRANT LAST FRIDAY, AT THE SODA BAY ROAD RESIDENCE OF 49 YEAR OLD DAVID GENE ROVETTI AND 38 YEAR OLD SELENA SYLVIA JACK. THE SEARCH REVEALED APPROXIMATELY 43 GRAMS OF CRYSTAL ICE METHAMPHETAMINE, SMOKING PARAPHERNALIA, A SCALE AND MORE. BOTH ROVETTI AND JACK WERE BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY HILL ROAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

LC SUPERVISORS APPROVE LAWYER FOR CASE AGAINST SHERIFF JH 09/19/12

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVED THE HIRING OF A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY TO REPRESENT LAKE COUNTY’S SHERIFF.

SHERIFF FRANK RIVERO IS FACING A POTENTIAL ACTION BY THE DISRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE BASED ON ALLEGATIONS THAT HE LIED DURING A 2008 INVESTIGATION. THE BOARD APPROVED THE APPOINTMENT IN A 3 TO 1 VOTE.

LAKEPORT COUNCIL DELAYS RATE HIKE DECISION JH 09/19/12

THE LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL FACED AN UNHAPPY CROWD LAST NIGHT, AS RESIDENTS SHOWED UP TO PROTEST THE CITY’S PROPOSAL TO DOUBLE WATER AND SEWER RATES OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

OFFICIALS SAID THAT MORE THAN 650 PROTESTS WERE FILED LAST NIGHT IN RESPONCE TO THE RATE HIKE PROPOSAL. HOWEVER, A TOTAL OF 1,215 PROTESTS, 50 PERCENT PLUS ONE, ARE NEEDED TO STOP THE HIKE FROM MOVING FORWARD. IN THE END, COUNCIL MEMBERS DECIDED TO HOLD OFF ON MAKING THE DESICION, CHOOSING TO CONTINUE THE MATTER FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE THE COUNCIL WEIGHS THE MATTER FURTHER.

MENDOCINO COUNTY CONSIDERS ENERGY PROGRAM JH 09/19/12

HELP MAY BE ON THE WAY FOR PROPERTY OWNERS WHO WANT TO ADD ENERGY-EFFICIENCY OR WATER-SAVING IMPROVEMENTS TO THEIR BUSINESS, NON-PROFIT, SCHOOLS, OR HOMES.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RECENTLY APPROVED THE IDEA OF LOOKING INTO FINDING A VENDOR THAT WOULD ADMINISTER LOCALLY A PROPERTY ASSESSED CLEAN ENERGY, OR PACE, PROGRAM. IF THE PROGRAM GETS THE GREEN LIGHT, IT WOULD ALLOW PROPERTY OWNERS TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THE COUNTY TO HAVE MONEY FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS APPLIED BACK TO THEIR PROPERTY TAXES AS AN ASSESSMENT, USUALLY OVER 10 OR 20 YEARS. THE LOAN FOLLOWS THE PROPERTY, SO THAT WHEN THE PROPERTY IS SOLD, THE BUYER PAYS OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE OWED VALUE OF THE GREEN IMPROVEMENTS, AND REAPS THE SAVINGS THEY BRING.

WILLITS ROAD CLOSURE JH 09/19/12

CENTRAL AVENUE IN WILLITS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY AND TOMORROW FOR A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT.

THE CLOSURE IS FROM SOUTH STREET TO OAK STREET, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SIDEWALK DEMOLITION AND A STORM DRAIN INSTALLATION. THERE WILL BE NO THROUGH TRAFFIC ON SOUTH STREET TO CENTRAL AVENUE, AND MOTORISTS MAY EXPERIENCE SOME TRAFFIC DELAYS.

THE FILM, ‘CALIFORNIA INDIAN’ WAS WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY TM RAMOS, WHO WAS RAISED AT BIG VALLEY RANCHERIA, AND THE FILM WAS SHOT AT LOCATIONS AROUND LAKE COUNTY. THIS IS AN ENCORE PRESENTATION TO CELEBRATE THE FILM’S AUGUST DVD RELEASE.
