AUTHORITIES STILL SEEK FATAL SHOOTING SUSPECT JH 01/23/13

AUTHORITIES STILL SEEK THE SUSPECT IN A ROBBERY AND FATAL SHOOTING IN KELSEYVILLE LAST FRIDAY.

THE MOUNT KONOCTI GAS AND MART WAS ROBBED AND AN EMPLOYEE, 33 YEAR OLD FORREST SEAGRAVE WAS SHOT AND KILLED DURING THE INCIDENT. AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING ALL LEADS AND HAVE RELEASED A PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN BY THE STORES SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT. THE PHOTO IS POSTED ON THE K-WINE NEWS FACEBOOK PAGE AS WELL AS THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS WEB SITE. THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A MALE, 59 TO 511 WITH A THIN BUILD. THE SUSPECT WAS WEARING A BLACK HOODED SWEATSHIRT, BLUE JEANS, GLOVES AND SOME TYPE OF MASK. THE SHERIFFS OFFICE IS SEEKING ASSISTANCE FROM THE PUBLIC IN IDENTIFYING THE SUSPECT. THERE IS CURRENTLY A REWARD OF $10,000 FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS URGED TO CONTACT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE AT 263-2690.

A WILDLAND FIRE STARTED YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN A CONTROLLED BURN AT A VINEYARD GOT OUT OF CONTROL.

THE FIRE WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 11 AM AT RED HILLS VINEYARD ON HIGHWAY 29. THE FIRE ESCAPED THE CONTROLLED AREA AND HEADED UP MT KONOCTI, GETTING INTO A COUNT PARK AND DAMAGING A NEW RESTROOM FACILITY. ACCORDING TO CAL FIRE, THE BLAZE HAD CONSUMED 300 ACRES AS OF LAST NIGHT AND WAS AT 50 PERCENT CONTAINMENT. FULL CONTAINMENT IS EXPECTED SOMETIME TODAY.

EARTHQUAKE NEAR COBB JH 01/23/13

A MODERATE SIZED EARTHQUAKE SHOOK THE GEYSERS AND COBB AREA YESTERDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO A PRELIMINARY REPORT BY THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, THE QUAKE WAS CENTERED TWO MILES EAST OF THE GEYSERS AND 4 MILES SOUTH WEST OF COBB AT A DEPTH OF 2.3 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 3.0 MAGNITUDE AND NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.

WILLITS CITY COUNCIL TO APPOINT INTERIM CITY MANAGER JH 01/23/13

THE WILLITS CITY COUNCIL WILL HAVE A SPECIAL MEETING THIS AFTERNOON TO APPOINT AN INTERIM CITY MANAGER.

FORMER MANAGER, PAUL CAYLER WAS RELEASED FROM HIS CONTRACT LAST WEEK. THE COUNCIL WILL MEET TODAY AT 5:30 TO APPOINT THE INTERIM MANAGER TO FACILITATE THE TRANSITION OF LEADERSHIP.

HOUSE FIRE INVESTIGATION IN FORT BRAGG JH 01/23/13

AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING A HOUSE FIRE YESTERDAY IN FORT BRAGG.

THE BLAZE WAS REPORTED AROUND NOON IN THE 600 BLOCK OF EAST LAUREL STREET. FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO GET THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL FAIRLY QUICKLY, BUT THE CAUSE IS NOT YET KNOWN.

PAROLE DENIED FOR WHITLOCK JH 01/23/13

STATE PAROLE AUTHORITIES HAVE RULED THAT A POINT ARENA MAN WILL REMAIN IN PRISON FOR THE MURDER OF A WELL-KNOWN MENDOCINO COAST CONTRACTOR.

CAMERON WHITLOCK WAS CONVICTED IN MAY 1990 OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER, ROBBERY, AND VEHICLE THEFT FOR THE TRAGIC AND SENSELESS KILLING OF WALLACE KUNTZ. WHITLOCK WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE AGAIN FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS.

POWER OUTAGE FRIDAY CAUSED BY FAULTY EQUIPMENT JH 01/23/13

440 CUSTOMERS LOST POWER FRIDAY WHEN EQUIPMENT ON A POWER POLE NEAR KOHLS IN UKIAH FAILED.

THE OUTAGE AND SMALL BRUSH FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED LIGHTING ARRESTOR ON THE POLE ON THE CORNER OF NORTH ORCHARD AND FORD STREET. THE POWER WAS RESTORED IN JUST OVER A HALF HOUR.

DUI SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER WEAVING THROUGH TOWN JH 01/23/13

A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER ALLEGEDLY RUNNING STOP SIGNS AND HITTING A POLICE CAR DURING PURSUIT.

POLICE RECEIVED REPORTS OF A VEHICLE WEAVING AND RUNNING STOP SIGNS AT ABOUT 8:15 AM. OFFICERS TRIED TO PULL OVER THE DRIVER, LATER IDENTIFIED AS 58 YEAR OLD JOSE MARGARITO MORA, ON GOBBI STREET AT NORTH STATE. MORA FAILED TO YIELD AND CONTINUED EAST ON GOBBI AND BEGAN SLOWLY TURNING INTO THE TRAILER PARK ON THE EAST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 101. TURNING TOO WIDE, MORA STOPPED AND POLICE EXITED THEIR VEHICLES TO MAKE THE ARREST. HOWEVER, MORA THEN BACKED INTO A PATROL CAR BREAKING A WINDOW BEFORE OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY. MORA WAS BOOKED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

AVOID WINTER ALGAE BLOOMS IN CLEAR LAKE JH 01/23/13

LAKE COUNTY HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE ADVISING PEOPLE TO STAY OUT OF CLEAR LAKE WHERE THERE ARE ALGAE BLOOMS.

THE BLUE-GREEN ALGAE IS UNUSUAL IN THE WINTER AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED BY HUMANS AND PETS. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECORDED CASES OF HUMANS GETTING SICK FROM THE ALGAE, BUT TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, IT IS BEST TO AVOID CONTACT WITH IT.
