SUNDAY CRASH SENDS THREE TO HOSPITAL JH 01/28/13

A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH SENT THREE PEOPLE TO REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTERS LAST NIGHT.

ACCORDING TO CHP, THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 8:30 PM ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR HOFACKER LANE. A VEHICLE WAS FOUND ABOUT 30 FEET DOWN AN EMBANKMENT IN A CREEK-BED AND ON FIRE. THE FIRE HAD SPREAD TO SOME SURROUNDING TREES. THE ACCIDENT CLOSED HIGHWAY 29 FOR JUST OVER AN HOUR. THE DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE ALL FLOWN OUT TO VARIOUS TRAUMA CENTERS IN SANTA ROSA, NAPA AND DAVIS. NO OTHER INFORMATION HAS BEEN RELEASED YET.

EARTHQUAKE NEAR ROCKPORT JH 01/28/13

A MODERATE SIZED EARTHQUAKE SHOOK THE ROCKPORT AND LAYTONVILLE AREA SATURDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO REPORTS BY THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 5:10 AM JUST 11 MILES EAST OF ROCKPORT AND 12 MILES NORTH WEST OF LAYTONVILLE AT A DEPTH OF 4.5 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 3.5 MAGNITUDE AND NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.

DRAFT EIR FOR COSTCO NEARLY READY JH 01/28/13

THE DRAFT VERSION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR THE PLANNED COSTCO STORE ON AIRPORT PARK BOULEVARD IS NEARLY READY FOR REVIEW.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THE REPORT WILL BE READY ON JANUARY 30, AND A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE REPORT IS SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 27. AS PART OF THE DEAL TO BRING COSTCO TO UKIAH, THE CITY AGREED TO MAKE SEVERAL IMPROVEMENTS IN AND AROUND THE REDWOOD BUSINESS PARK THAT WOULD MITIGATE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS, HOWEVER, FUNDING FOR THESE IMPROVEMENTS IS STILL NOT SECURED. THE CITY IS CURRENTLY WORKING THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS TO GET THE NEEDED FUNDS.

ROADWORK WILL CAUSE DELAYS JH 01/28/13

ROADWORK IN SEVERAL LOCATION AROUND LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTYS WILL CAUSE TRAFFIC DELAYS.

CAL TRANS HAS APPROVED UTILITY INSTALLATION ON HIGHWAY 1 NEAR PACIFIC AVENUE BEGINNING TODAY FROM 7 AM TO 5 PM WEEKDAYS. ONE-WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 10-MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

PG&E WILL PERFORM UTILITY REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY 20 JUST WEST OF LA TRIANON RESORT TOMORROW FROM 9 AM TO 1 PM. ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROLS WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 10 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

A CAL TRANS SUBCONTRACTOR WILL PERFORM METAL BEAM GUARDRAIL REPAIR AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON HIGHWAY 271 FROM THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 101 TO THE COUNTY LINE STARTING TOMORROW FROM 7 AM TO 5 PM WEEKDAYS. ONE-WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 5-MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

FIRE HYDRANT REPLACEMENT IN FORT BRAGG JH 01/28/13

THE CITY OF FORT BRAGG PUBLIC WORKS CREW WILL BE REPLACING A FIRE HYDRANT ON LAUREL STREET AT THE ALLEY BETWEEN CORRY AND HAROLD TOMORROW.

THE BLOCK BETWEEN CORRY AND HAROLD AND LAUREL AND PINE WILL BE WITHOUT WATER BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9 AM AND 1 PM. ONCE WATER IS RESTORED, THERE WILL LIKELY BE NO NOTICEABLE CHANGES TO THE WATER, HOWEVER, A SLIGHT DISCOLORATION OF THE WATER IS POSSIBLE.

MENDO COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES FLOODED LAST WEEK

JH 01/28/13

MENDOCINO COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES HAD A ONE INCH WATER PIPE IN THE CEILING BURST LAST WEEK, FLOODING OFFICES.

STAFF WAS IMMEDIATELY MOVED AND CLEAN UP BEGAN. REPAIR OF THE BUILDING WILL TAKE SOME TIME, HOWEVER, ALL SERVICES LOCATED AT THE DORA STREET OFFICE ARE UP AND RUNNING. A MODULAR STRUCTURE HAS BEEN SET UP IN THE PARKING LOT TO TEMPORARILY HOUSE THE WIC PROGRAM DURING REPAIRS. WIC WILL BE CLOSED TODAY, HOWEVER, IT WILL BE OPEN AS USUAL TOMORROW.

MEETING TO DISCUSS FISH SCREEN AND LADDER JH 01/28/13

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO COMMENT TOMORROW ON A PROPOSED FISH SCREEN AND FISH LADDER AT THE SONOMA COUNTY WATER AGENCYS WATER SUPPLY FACILITIES ON THE RUSSIAN RIVER NEAR FORESTVILLE.

AN ANALYSIS HAS BEEN PREPARED AND A MEETING TO DISCUSS IT SCHEDULED TO LOOK AT THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO THE ENVIRONMENT IN REPLACING A SCREEN THAT BLOCKS FISH FROM ENTERING INTO FOUR FILTRATION PONDS THAT ARE CRITICAL IN OPERATING A SYSTEM THAT PROVIDES CLEAN, NATURALLY FILTERED DRINKING WATER TO 600,000 PEOPLE. THE STUDY ALSO LOOKS AT THE IMPACTS OF REPLACING TWO EXISTING LADDERS THAT ALLOW FISH TO MIGRATE UPSTREAM TO BYPASS THE WATER AGENCIES INFLATABLE DAM. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR 8:30 AM TOMORROW IN SANTA ROSA AT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CHAMBERS.
