THREE INJURED IN SUNDAY CRASH IDENTIFIED, CHP SAVES TWO FROM FIRE JH 01/29/13

THE THREE PEOPLE INJURED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED, AND A CHP OFFICER WAS CREDITED WITH SAVING TWO FROM FIRE.

THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED SATURDAY NIGHT AROUND 8:30 ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR HOFACKER LANE. 54 YEAR OLD DOW WALTON WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND WITH PASSENGERS 46 YEAR OLD REGINA WALTON, AND 25 YEAR OLD ANDY HOPPER. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, WALTON ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE BY CROSSING THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES, BUT SWERVED BACK INTO THE LANE WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC APPROACHED. WALTON LOST CONTROL AND SLID SIDEWAYS OFF THE ROAD AND FLIPPED END OVER END BEFORE LANDING IN A CREEK BED. WHEN CHP ARRIVED, HOPPER WAS OUT OF THE WRECKAGE, AND THE VEHICLE HAD IGNITED. CHP OFFICER ADAM GARCIA ASSISTED THE WALTONS OUT OF THE FULLY ENGULFED BURNING WRECK. ALL THREE WERE FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTERS IN NAPA, SANTA ROSA, AND DAVIS. DOW WALTON WAS CHARGED WITH DUI.

PROTEST AGAINST WILLITS BYPASS JH 01/29/13

AS CAL TRANS ATTEMPTED TO START WORK ON THE CONTROVERSIAL WILLITS BYPASS YESTERDAY MORNING, THEY WERE MET WITH DOZENS OF PROTESTERS RAISING THEIR VOICES AND CLIMBING TREES TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING CUT.

PROTESTERS FROM EARTH FIRST JOINED LOCAL RESIDENTS IN PREVENTING THE PROJECT FROM GETTING STARTED YESTERDAY, AND ONE LOCAL WOMAN IS NOW LIVING ON A PLATFORM IN ONE OF THE TREES SLATED FOR REMOVAL. LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS HAVE FILED A LAWSUIT AND REQUESTED AND INJUNCTION TO STOP THE PROJECT UNTIL THE LAWSUITS ARE SETTLED. HOWEVER, A FEDERAL JUDGE DENIED THE REQUESTED INJUNCTION. THE TRIAL DATE IS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 7TH.

WILLITS MEN BREAK INTO FERNDALE BANK JH 01/29/13

TWO WILLITS MEN WERE ARRESTED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AFTER BREAKING INTO A FERNDALE BANK.

39-YEAR-OLD LARRY DANIEL RODRIGUEZ AND 56 YEAR OLD SYLVESTER LOREN VANSICKLE HAD USED A PRY BAR TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE US BANK ON OCEAN AVENUE. A SILENT ALARM ALERTED POLICE, WHO FOUND THE TWO SUSPECTS USING AN ACETYLENE TORCH TO ATTEMPT TO CUT INTO THE BACK OF THE ATM MACHINE. BOTH RODRIGUEZ AND VANSICKLE WERE BOOKED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

CLEARLAKE MAN IS SENTENCED FOR KILLING ESTRANGED WIFE

A CLEARLAKE MAN WAS SENTENCED MONDAY FOR KILLING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE NEARLY THREE YEARS AGO.

53 YEAR OLD EDDIE LEE GILLESPIE PLEADED GUILTY TO SECOND DEGREE MURDER AS PART OF A PLEA DEAL LAST MONTH. GILLESPIES ESTRANGED WIFE, TRACY, WAS FOUND DEAD WITH MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS IN MAY OF 2010. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, GILLESPIE CALLED EMERGENCY DISPATCH THAT MORNING TO REPORT HE HAD SHOT HIS WIFE. GILLESPIE WAS SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON.

ROAD WORK DELAYS JH 01/29/13

ROADWORK IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS AROUND LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTYS WILL CAUSE DELAYS.

PG&E WILL PERFORM UTILITY REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY 20 JUST WEST OF LA TRIANON RESORT TODAY FROM 9 AM TO 1 PM. ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROLS WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 10 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

A CAL TRANS SUBCONTRACTOR WILL PERFORM METAL BEAM GUARDRAIL REPAIR AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON HIGHWAY 271 FROM THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 101 TO THE COUNTY LINE STARTING TODAY. WORK WILL BE DONE FROM 7 AM TO 5 PM WEEKDAYS WITH ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROLS IN EFFECT AND 5 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

A LOCAL WOMAN RECENTLY MADE A LARGE DONATION TO THE KELSEYVILLE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICTS EFFORT TO PURCHASE NEW RESCUE EQUIPMENT.

JAN THOMPSON HAS DONATED $10,000 TO HELP COMPLETE THE PURCHASE OF A NEW ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE TO USE FOR RESCUE OPERATIONS ON MT- KONOCTI, SINCE THE DISTRICTS AMBULANCES ARE NOT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THE NEW POLARIS SIX WHEEL ATV IS SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE THIS WEEK.

MEN CONVICTED OF CLEARLAKE DRIVE-BY, SENTENCED JH 01/29/13

A LAKE COUNTY JUDGE SENTENCED A SACRAMENTO MAN CONVICTED OF A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN CLEARLAKE ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO.

20-YEAR-OLD JERRY LEE KING JR WAS FOUND GUILTY OF THREE FELONIES AFTER HE DROVE UP TO MARVIN TURL IN 2011 AND SHOT HIM. TURL SURVIVED WITH THE BULLET STILL LODGED IN HIS ABDOMEN. KING WAS SENTENCED TO 31 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON.

FIRE HYDRANT REPLACEMENT TODAY JH 01/29/13

THE CITY OF FORT BRAGG PUBLIC WORKS CREW WILL BE REPLACING A FIRE HYDRANT ON LAUREL STREET AT THE ALLEY BETWEEN CORRY AND HAROLD TODAY.

THE BLOCK BETWEEN CORRY AND HAROLD AND LAUREL AND PINE WILL BE WITHOUT WATER BETWEEN 9 AM AND 1 PM. ONCE THE WATER IS RESTORED, THERE SHOULD BE NO NOTICEABLE CHANGES, HOWEVER, A SLIGHT DISCOLORATION OF WATER IS POSSIBLE. IF THIS OCCURS, SIMPLY RUN THE WATER FOR A FEW MINUTES OR UNTIL CLEAR.

A SNEAKER WAVE CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A WOMAN IN SHELTER COVE SUNDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE VICTIM WAS WITH HER BOYFRIEND WALKING THE DOG ON LITTLE BLACK SANDS BEACH, WHEN THE SNEAKER WAVE HIT THEM AND PULLED HER OUT TO SEA. THE BOYFRIEND WAS ABLE TO CLIMB ONTO A ROCK TO AVOID BEING PULLED OUT TOO. THE WOMAN WAS RECOVERED IN ABOUT 45 MINUTES THANKS TO A COAST GUARD HELICOPTER SPOTTING HER IN THE SURF.

ANIMAL CRUELTY IN CLEARLAKE JH 01/29/13

A HORRIBLE CASE OF ANIMAL CRUELTY WAS DISCOVERED IN CLEARLAKE.

A THREE TO FOUR YEAR OLD CHOCOLATE LAB-MIX NAMED MOLLY WAS FOUND FRIDAY LOCKED IN A SMALL BEDROOM WITH NO FOOD OR WATER. MOLLY HAD REPORTEDLY BEEN LOCKED UP FOR THREE WEEKS AND WEIGHED ONLY 23 POUND, ABOUT HALF OF WHAT SHE SHOULD WEIGH. MOLLY IS UNDER THE CARE OF A VETERINARIAN AND IS DOING WELL. AUTHORITIES ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING CHARGES AGAINST THE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE FOR MOLLYS CONDITION. CLEARLAKE ANIMAL CONTROL IS SEEKING DONATION TO AID IN THE CARE AND TREATMENT OF MOLLY.
