A 17 YEAR OLD LAYTONVILLE GIRL HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE JANUARY 12.

KATRINA HAMILTON WAS LAST SEEN HEADING TO HARWOOD PARK TO DO SOME ART WORK, AND HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE. HAMILTON DOES HAVE A HISTORY OF DISAPPEARING FOR SEVERAL DAYS, HOWEVER, SHE HAS NEVER BEEN GONE THIS LONG BEFORE. HAMILTON SUFFERS FROM GRAVES DISEASE, AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE AFFECTING THE THYROID GLAND, AND REQUIRES DAILY MEDICATION. HER FAMILY IS WORRIED ABOUT POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF A LACK OF MEDICATION. KATRINA HAMILTON IS 5 FEET 2 INCHES TALL, WEIGHING 132 POUNDS WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLUE EYES. MOTORCYCLES STOLEN FROM HILLSIDE HONDA JH 01/30/13

THE LAKEPORT POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE THEFT OF SEVERAL MOTORCYCLES FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS.

HILLSIDE HONDA REPORTED YESTERDAY THAT ONE YAMAHA AND TWO HONDA MOTORCYCLES HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM THEIR ENCLOSED LOCKED YARD DURING THE LAST WEEK. EMPLOYEES MADE THE DISCOVERY WHILE CONDUCTING INVENTORY, AND DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE BIKES WERE TAKEN. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT OFFICER BASOR AT THE LAKEPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 263-5491.

PEDESTRIAN HIT BY VEHICLE JH 01/30/13

A PEDESTRIAN WAS HIT BY A VEHICLE YESTERDAY EVENING IN LAKEPORT.

THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT ABOUT 6:30 ON SOUTH MAIN STREET AND LUPOYOMA AVENUE. THE UNIDENTIFIED VICTIM WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. NO OTHER INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

EARTHQUAKE NEAR GEYSERS JH 01/30/13

A MODERATE SIZED EARTHQUAKE SHOOK THE GEYSERS AND COBB YESTERDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO A PRELIMINARY REPORT BY THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 8:45 AM JUST 2 MILES NORTH OF THE GEYSERS AND 4 MILES WEST OF COBB AT A DEPTH OF 2.1 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 3.0 MAGNITUDE, AND NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.

SILVER ALERT VICTIM FOUND IN WILLITS JH 01/30/13

A SILVER ALERT WAS ISSUED MONDAY FOR A MISSING ELK GROVE MAN, WHO WAS EVENTUALLY FOUND IN WILLITS.

THE NATIONAL SILVER ALERT SYSTEM FOR MISSING AND AT RISK ADULTS IS SIMILAR TO THE AMBER ALERT SYSTEM AND WENT INTO EFFECT JUST WEEKS AGO. THE SUBJECT OF MONDAYS SILVER ALERT WAS 79 YEAR OLD KEN MITCHELL OF ELK GROVE, WHO LEFT HOME AT ABOUT 2 PM MONDAY WITH THE INTENTION OF DRIVING TO THE SAN RAMON AREA. DURING THE DRIVE, HE BECAME DISORIENTED AND ENDED UP AT FLYERS GAS ON SOUTH MAIN STREET IN WILLITS. AN EMPLOYEE CALLED POLICE WITH CONCERNS ABOUT A DISORIENTED ELDERLY MAN WHO WAS LOST AND THOUGHT HE WAS IN THE BAY AREA. HAVING JUST RECEIVED THE SILVER ALERT, WILLITS POLICE RESPONDED AND LOCATED MITCHELL A SHORT TIME LATER AT THE SAFEWAY GAS STATION. MITCHELL HAS BEEN REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY.

SHULTZ PLEADS NOT GUILTY JH 01/30/13

A UKIAH MAN WHO WAS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY HAVING A CONCEALED WEAPON ON HIM AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER GUNS AND A BOMB IN HIS HOME, WAS ARRAIGNED FRIDAY.

48-YEAR-OLD WESLEY SHULTZ WAS ARRESTED WHEN POLICE WERE SERVING AN ARREST WARRANT TO SOMEONE ELSE ON CHERRY STREET IN UKIAH ON JANUARY 15TH. ACCORDING TO POLICE, SHULTZ CONTACTED OFFICERS WHILE SHOWING SIGNS OF BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. A SEARCH OF HIS PERSON REVEALED A .45 CALIBER HANDGUN CONCEALED ON HIM. AUTHORITIES THEN SEARCHED HIS HOME AND FOUND 19 MORE GUNS AND A HOMEMADE EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. SHULTZ PLEADED NOT GUILTY DURING THE ARRAIGNMENT.

LAKE COUNTY NEWS WEBSITE SUES SHERIFF OVER PRESS RELEASE POLICY JH 01/30/13

TENSION BETWEEN A LAKE COUNTY WEBSITE THAT AGGRESSIVELY COVERS BREAKING NEWS AND THE COUNTYS OUTSPOKEN SHERIFF HAS BOILED OVER IN A DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COUNTY.

THE LOCAL OWNERS OF THE LAKE COUNTY NEWS WEBSITE HAVE FILED A LAWSUIT THE CONTENDS SHERIFF FRANK RIVERO HAS BLACKLISTED THEM FROM PRESS RELEASES AND HAS PUT UP OTHER UNFAIR OBSTACLES TO GETTING PUBLIC RECORDS. THE FIGHT CENTERS ON WHETHER THE SHERIFFS OFFICE CAN TREAT LOCAL NEWS ORGANIZATIONS DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY REPORT THE NEWS. THE FIRST AMENDMENT AND CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RECORDS LAWS ARE IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE NEWS ORGANIZATION FROM SUCH PREJUDICE. THE CASE IS UNLIKELY TO GO BEFORE A JUDGE, AS THE ATTORNEY REPRESENTING THE NEWS WEB SITE HAS STATED THAT THEY ARE IN SETTLEMENT TALKS WITH LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL.

ROAD WORK TODAY JH 01/30/13

PG&E WILL PERFORM UTILITY REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY 20 TODAY.

THE REPAIRS WILL BE DONE JUST WEST OF WILDWOOD CAMPGROUND TO FORESTRY STATION ROAD FROM 7 AM TO 5 PM. ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 10 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.
