A WOMAN WAS SHOOT IN THE FACE DURING A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN GUALALA TUESDAY NIGHT

THE UNIDENTIFIED 39 YEAR OLD VICTIM WAS STANDING IN HER FRONT YARD, WHEN A VEHICLE SLOWLY DROVE BY AND FIRED MULTIPLE SHOTGUN BLASTS AT A CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF THE HOME. SEVERAL SHOTGUN PELLETS HIT THE WOMAN IN THE FACE CAUSING SERIOUS EYE INJURY. SHERIFFS DEPUTIES RESPONDED FROM BOTH MENDOCINO AND SONOMA COUNTIES. THE SONOMA COUNTY DEPUTY RECOGNIZED THE VEHICLE DESCRIPTION AS BELONGING TO 18 YEAR OLD LAMONT SALGADO OF THE KASHIA RESERVATION IN STEWARTS POINT. DEPUTIES LOCATED THE VEHICLE A SHORT TIME LATER ON SKAGGS SPRINGS ROAD. THE VEHICLE CONTAINED EXPENDED SHOTGUN SHELLS MATCHING THOSE FROM THE SCENE. SALGADO AND HIS ACCOMPLICE, 21 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER OCHOA OF ROHNERT PARK WERE LOCATED AT A NEARBY RESIDENCE AND ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

22 YEAR OLD JESSICA KING WAS CROSSING SOUTH MAIN STREET AROUND 6:30 WHEN A MINIVAN DRIVEN BY 21 YEAR OLD SARAH SHULTZ HIT KING. KING WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

AUTHORITIES STILL LOOKING FOR MISSING LAYTONVILLE TEEN

AUTHORITIES ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE LAYTONVILLE TEEN WHO DISAPPEARED NEARLY THREE WEEKS AGO.

17-YEAR-OLD KATRINA HAMILTON, WHO IS ALSO KNOWN AS KATRINA BISHOP, VANISHED FROM THE LAYTONVILLE AREA ON JANUARY 12. AUTHORITIES HAVE INVESTIGATED LEADS IN NUMEROUS LOCATIONS AROUND LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES WITH NO SUCCESS. KATRINA IS DESCRIBED AS 5 FEET 2 INCHES TALL, WEIGHING 132 POUNDS WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLUE EYES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT KATRINAS POSSIBLE WHEREABOUTS OR HER DISAPPEARANCE IS URGED TO CONTACT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS TIP LINE AT 234-2100.

LAKE COUNTY HOMELESS COUNT IS IN JH 01/31/13

THE RESULTS ARE IN FOR LAKE COUNTYS FIRST COMPREHENSIVE COUNT OF HOMELESS PEOPLE.

LAST FRIDAY, THE COUNTY CONDUCTED THE COUNT IN AN EFFORT TO QUALIFY FOR FUNDING FOR SERVICES FOR HOMELESS AND THOSE AT RISK OF BECOMING HOMELESS. THE COUNT IDENTIFIED APPROXIMATELY 188 HOMELESS PEOPLE AROUND THE COUNTY, WHICH INDICATES THERE IS A NEED FOR MORE SERVICES IN A COUNTY THAT HAS NO HOMELESS SHELTER. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THE RESULTS PROVIDE AN IMPORTANT BASELINE FOR LOCAL GROUPS TO PLAN FOR MEETING THE NEEDS OF LAKE COUNTYS HOMELESS POPULATION.

PAROLE DENIED FOR SERIAL SEX OFFENDER JH 01/31/13

LOCAL AUTHORITIES YESTERDAY HAILED THE STATES DECISION TO DENY PAROLE FOR CONVICTED SERIAL SEX OFFENDER JOHN EDWARD SANCHEZ.

SANCHEZ TOLD THE PAROLE BOARD THAT HE WANTED TO RETURN TO UKIAH TO FIND EMPLOYMENT IF RELEASED. SANCHEZ BECAME ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE AFTER SERVING 19 YEARS FOR THE 1994 CONVICTION OF FELONY CHILD MOLESTATION OF A LOCAL GIRL. PRIOR TO THAT CONVICTION, SANCHEZ HAD ALSO BEEN CONVICTED AND SERVED TIME FOR KIDNAPPING, MULTIPLE RAPES AND BURGLARIES, AS WELL AS ANOTHER CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE. SANCHEZ WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE AGAIN FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS.

EX-OFFENDER WORKSHOP JH 01/31/13

THE LAKE COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT WILL SPONSOR AN EX-OFFENDER EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOP NEXT MONTH.

THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF OFFENDERS REPEATING PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS BY ASSISTING THEM IN OBTAINING JOBS AND CHOOSING A POSITIVE PATH IN THEIR LIVES. THE WORKSHOP WILL FEATURE RESOURCE INFORMATION AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EX-OFFENDERS SEEKING JOB SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT. THE WORKSHOP IS SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 8TH. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, AND CAN BE DONE BY CALLING OFFICER TIM CHASTAIN AT 262-4580.

RUSTY BOWL STILL TOO WET TO USE JH 01/31/13

UKIAHS RUSTY BOWL BMX FACILITY HAD HOPED TO HOLD ITS FIRST RACES OF THE SEASON THIS WEEKEND, HOWEVER, THE FACILITY IS STILL TOO WET TO USE.

AS PEOPLE BEGAN SHOWING UP FOR A WEDNESDAY EVENING PRACTICE, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE TRACK WAS JUST TOO SOFT TO USE. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THERE LIKELY WONT BE RACES AGAIN UNTIL THE TRACK CAN BE REBUILT IN THE SPRING. THE ORGANIZATION HAS ONGOING EFFORTS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE TRACKS REPAIR.
