ANOTHER BANK ROBBERY IN MIDDLETOWN JH 03/08/13

TRI COUNTIES BANK IN MIDDLETOWN WAS ROBBED THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

A MAN ENTERED THE BANK AND GAVE A TELLER A NOTE, THEN LEFT WITH SOME LARGE BILLS. HE WAS SEEN DRIVING AWAY IN A GOLD SEDAN HEADED TOWARDS HIGHWAY 175. THE ROBBER IS DESCRIBED AS A HEAVYSET WHITE MALE WITH A BEARD; AND WEARING A BLACK HOODY AND DARK FRAMED GLASSES WITH CLEAR LENSES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IN REGARD TO THIS INCIDENT IS ASKED TO CALL THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

ARSON SUSPECT WAS BEING EVICTED JH 03/08/13

THE PRIMARY SUSPECT IN THE ARSON CASE THAT SAW THE FIRCREST APARTMENT COMPLEX IN UKIAH HAVE EIGHT UNITS DESTROYED, WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING EVICTED.

THE WOMAN, WHOSE NAME IS NOT BEING RELEASED, IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED A DOZEN FIRES AROUND THE APARTMENT COMPLEX SINCE LAST OCTOBER, AND WAS THE REPORTING PARTY IN MOST OF THE INSTANCES, WHICH, ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES IS COMMON BEHAVIOR FOR AN ARSONIST. THE SAME WOMAN IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED SEVERAL FIRES AT TWO DIFFERENT APARTMENT COMPLEXES SHE PREVIOUSLY LIVED IN, IN MERCED. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NEVER ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR AN ARREST. AUTHORITIES ARE CURRENTLY BUILDING A CASE AGAINST HER, BUT TESTING RESULTS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE LABORATORY, THAT SHOULD RESULT IN MORE CONCRETE EVIDENCE, WONT BE AVAILABLE FOR SIX MONTHS OR MORE.

EARTHQUAKE NEAR ANDERSON SPRINGS JH 03/08/13

AN EARTHQUAKE RATTLED ANDERSON SPRINGS AND THE GEYSERS JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT.

ACCORDING TO A PRELIMINARY REPORT FROM THE US GEOLOGIC SURVEY, THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 11:59 PM JUST 2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF ANDERSON SPRINGS AND SIX MILES SOUTH OF COBB AT A DEPTH OF ONLY 1.2 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 3.3 MAGNITUDE, AND NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.

FORT BRAGG MAN FOUND GUILTY IN BEATING DEATH OF FRIEND

A FORT BRAGG MAN WAS CONVICTED OF THE BEATING DEATH OF HIS FRIEND WHILE STAYING AT A COASTAL CAMPGROUND IN 2011.

52 YEAR OLD GLENN HUGHES WAS FOUND GUILTY BY A MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JURY OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER AFTER BEATING TO DEATH 45 YEAR OLD JOSE MADRID ON NEW YEARS EVE 2011. HUGHES FACES UP TO 19 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON.

UKIAHS PALACE HOTEL CLOSE TO GETTING BUILDING PERMIT

UKIAHS HISTORIC PALACE HOTEL IS GETTING CLOSER TO THE POINT THAT THE CITY CAN ISSUE A BUILDING PERMIT THAT WILL ALLOW WORK TO CONTINUE ON THE DILAPIDATED STRUCTURE.

ACCORDING TO THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL, ELADIA LAINES, WHO REPRESENTS UNIQUE PROPERTIES, THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING ON RECORD, NEEDS TO HIRE A NEW CONSULTANT TO OVERSEE THE REMOVAL OF ASBESTOS AND LEAD FROM THE STRUCTURE BEFORE ANY PERMIT MAY BE ISSUED. ONCE THAT IS COMPLETE AND THE MENDOCINO COUNTY AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT APPROVES THE WORK, A BUILDING PERMIT CAN BE ISSUED TO ALLOW RENOVATION TO CONTINUE. THE COUNCIL WILL HEAR ANOTHER REPORT FROM LAINES, AS TO THE PROGRESS ON HIRING A NEW CONSULTANT, AT ITS MARCH 20TH MEETING.

MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL FILES BANKRUPTCY MOTION TO REJECT UNION CONTRACT JH 03/08/13

THE MENDOCINO COAST DISTRICT HOSPITAL ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT THE HOSPITAL HAS FILED A MOTION WITH THE US BANKRUPTCY COURT TO REJECT THE HOSPITALS CONTRACT WITH ITS EMPLOYEE UNION.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THE HOSPITAL IS PLANNING ON CONTACTING UNION REPRESENTATIVES AND REQUEST THEY ENTER INTO NEGOTIATIONS TO DEVELOP A NEW MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING PRIOR TO GOING TO COURT. THE HEARING ON THE MOTION IS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 12

PARTNERSHIP HEALTH PLAN OF CALIFORNIA, THE NON-PROFIT MEDI-CAL HEALTH PLAN IN SIX COUNTIES, INCLUDING MENDOCINO, WILL EXPAND ITS MEDI-CAL MANAGED CARE PROGRAM INTO EIGHT ADDITIONAL NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COUNTIES THAT INCLUDE THE COUNTY OF LAKE.

AFTER THE EXPANSION, THE ORGANIZATION WILL COORDINATE BENEFITS FOR NEARLY 296,000 MEDI-CAL BENEFICIARIES IN THE STATE, OFFERING ENROLLED MEMBERS A MEDICAL HOME, COORDINATION OF CARE, AND SUPPLEMENTAL BENEFITS NOT COVERED BY THE STATES TRADITIONAL MEDI-CAL PROGRAM.

FIRCREST APARTMENT OWNER STEPS UP TO ASSIST FIRE VICTIMS

THE OWNER OF THE FIRCREST APARTMENTS IN UKIAH, HAS STEPPED UP TO HELP THE FAMILIES DISPLACED BY THE FIRE THAT RAVAGED EIGHT APARTMENTS EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO ROBERT SHERWOOD, WHO OWNS THE APARTMENT COMPLEX, HE GAVE ALL BUT ONE OF THE EIGHT TENANTS BACK THEIR $1,000 DEPOSIT AND MARCH RENT, SO THEY HAVE MONEY TO HELP SECURE A NEW HOME. SHERWOOD, WHO OWNS OTHER UKIAH PROPERTIES, HAS ALSO RELOCATED FOUR OF THE EIGHT FAMILIES TO OTHER RENTAL UNITS HE OWNS. AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THE FIRE AND BUILD A CASE AGAINST A WOMAN WHO IS THE SUSPECTED ARSONIST BEHIND THE BLAZE.
