35-YEAR-OLD RICARDO PUENTES JR IS AMONG SANTA ROSA POLICE DEPARTMENTS MOST WANTED SUSPECTS. PUENTES IS WANTED FOR THE 2005 MURDER OF A 27 YEAR OLD SANTA ROSA MAN, IN WHAT AUTHORITIES HAVE DESCRIBED AS A COLD BLOODED KILLING MOTIVATED BY DISPUTES OVER DRUGS AND GANG TURF. PUENTES IS DESCRIBED AS A LATINO MAN, 5 FOOT 8 OR 5 FOOT 9, 190 POUNDS WITH BLACK HAIR AND BROWN EYES AND SEVERAL MOLES ON HIS FACE. A PHOTO IS POSTED ON THE K-WINE NEWS FACEBOOK PAGE. SEMI HITS CAR ON HIGHWAY 53 JH 03/28/13

A CLEARLAKE WOMAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN A SEMI TRAILER CRASHED INTO HER CAR TUESDAY MORNING.

28 YEAR OLD KELLY PUTRAH WAS STOPPED AT THE LIGHT ON LAKESHORE DRIVE WAITING TO CROSS HIGHWAY 53 WHEN A SEMI TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON THE HIGHWAY LOST CONTROL AND THE TRAILER CRASHED INTO PUTRAHS VEHICLE. PUTRAH WAS TRANSPORTED TO ST HELENA HOSPITAL CLEARLAKE BEFORE BEING AIRLIFTED TO AN OUT OF THE AREA TRAUMA CENTER. A 4 YEAR OLD PASSENGER IN PUTRAHS VEHICLE WAS UNINJURED, AS WAS, 45-YEAR-OLD RICARDO MARAVILLA, THE DRIVER OF THE BIG RIG. THE ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

FORMER CLEARLAKE PASTOR ARRESTED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

A STOCKTON MAN WAS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY EMBEZZLING LARGE SUMS OF MONEY FROM A CLEARLAKE CHURCH WHERE HE PREVIOUSLY WAS THE PASTOR.

62 YEAR OLD BRUCE ANTHONY STARK, THE FORMER PASTOR OF THE HILLTOP APOSTOLIC CHURCH, IS ACCUSED OF EMBEZZLING CASH AND PROPERTY IN EXCESS OF $100,000 BETWEEN 2002 AND 2007. STARK WAS ARRESTED LAST WEEK AND BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL FOR FELONY GRAND THEFT.

UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL DEPLETE RESERVES IN 3 YEARS

THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL HAVE DEPLETED ITS RESERVE CASH AND WILL BE FORCED INTO DEFICIT SPENDING IN THREE YEARS.

THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT IS STILL NEGOTIATING WITH THE UKIAH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION OVER A NEW CONTRACT, HOWEVER, LAST MONTH THE DISTRICT VOTED TO DEPLETE ITS RESERVES TO RAISE TEACHERS SALARIES. THE GOOD NEWS IS, ACCORDING TO DISTRICT OFFICIALS, THE NEW STARTING SALARY OF $40,000 IS ATTRACTING REALLY GOOD APPLICANTS. THE BAD NEWS HOWEVER, IS THE DISTRICT WILL HAVE A $2.25 MILLION NEGATIVE CASH FLOW BY FALL OF 2015.

PUBLIC COMMENT OPEN FOR NORTH COAST MARINE PROTECTED AREAS

NORTH COAST COMMUNITIES ARE INVITED TO PROVIDE COMMENT ON THE DRAFT NORTH COAST MARINE PROTECTED AREA BASELINE PROGRAM.

THIS IS THE FIRST STEP IN MONITORING THE 20 MARINE PROTECTED AREAS AND SEVEN SPECIAL CLOSURES THAT WERE ADOPTED LAST YEAR BY THE CALIFORNIA FISH AND GAME COMMISSION. THE PROTECTED AREAS SPAN FROM THE OREGON BORDER TO ALDER CREEK, NEAR POINT ARENA, AND THIS BASELINE PROGRAM WILL ESTABLISH A BENCHMARK AGAINST WHICH FUTURE PERFORMANCE CAN BE MEASURED AND DOCUMENTS ANY INITIAL CHANGES. COMMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH APRIL 10, AND CAN BE SUBMIT ONLINE AT OCEANSPACES.ORG.

LAKE COUNTY JUDGE REASSIGNED AFTER SON ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR SHERIFF JH 03/28/13

A LAKE COUNTY JUDGE HAS BEEN REASSIGNED DUE TO HIS SON ANNOUNCING HIS CANDIDACY FOR LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF.

SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE RICHARD MARTIN WILL NO LONGER PRESIDE OVER THE COURTS WEEKLY FELONY CALENDAR, DUE TO A CONFLICT OF INTERESTS, AFTER HIS SON BRIAN MARTIN ANNOUNCED HIS INTENTION TO RUN FOR SHERIFF IF A RECALL ELECTION OCCURS FOR THE CURRENT SHERIFF, FRANK RIVERO. A GROUP OF CITIZENS IS CIRCULATING A PETITION TO RECALL RIVERO AFTER HE WAS FOUND TO HAVE LIED IN AN INVESTIGATION AROUND A SHOOTING HE INVOLVED IN. JUDGE MARTIN WILL NOW PRESIDE OVER CIVIL AND PROBATE CASES.

APPLICANTS FOR THE 2013-2014 MENDOCINO COUNTY GRAND JURY ARE BEING SOUGHT.

THE 19 MEMBERS OF THE GRAND JURY SERVE FOR ONE YEAR AND ARE EMPOWERED TO INVESTIGATE OPERATIONS OF COUNTY, CITY AND DISTRICT GOVERNMENTS, AS WELL AS PROVIDE OVERSIGHT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES, AND RESPOND TO CITIZEN COMPLAINTS. THE VICTIMS OF THE FIRCREST FIRE IN UKIAH STILL NEED THE COMMUNITYS HELP.

THE FIRCREST APARTMENTS IN UKIAH LOST EIGHT UNITS WHEN A FIRE WAS STARTED JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT ON MARCH 4TH. THE EIGHT FAMILIES WERE RELOCATED WITHIN A WEEK, AND THE DONATIONS TO HELP THEM RESTART THEIR LIVES, AFTER LOOSING EVERYTHING, HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL. HOWEVER, MORE HELP IS STILL NEEDED. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS AT PLOWSHARES AND UKIAH VALLEY RENTALS, FAMILIES STILL NEED BASICS LIKE BEDS AND BEDDING, SOFAS, TOASTERS AND NUMEROUS OTHER ITEMS. DONATIONS OF ITEMS OR CASH CAN BE DROPPED OF AT UKIAH VALLEY RENTALS ON SOUTH MAIN STREET.
