MAN CALLS 911 TO REPORT HIS OWN SUICIDE JH 03/19/13

A COAST MAN CALLED 911 TO REPORT HIS OWN DEATH BEFORE SHOOTING HIMSELF NEXT TO HIS PARKED CAR.

THE 74 YEAR OLD MAN, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YET, CALLED 911 AROUND 9:45 SUNDAY NIGHT AND TOLD DISPATCHERS HE WAS GOING TO SHOOT HIMSELF AND WHERE THEY COULD FIND THE BODY. THE MAN WAS AT THE MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL IN THE PARKING LOT. WHEN NURSES HEARD THE GUN FIRE, THEY RAN INSIDE AND THE HOSPITAL WAS PUT ON LOCKDOWN. AUTHORITIES FOUND THE MAN IN THE BUSHES NEXT TO HIS CAR, THE GUN ON THE GROUND NEAR HIM, AND A GUN CASE INSIDE THE CAR. HE WAS STILL ALIVE AND TAKEN INSIDE THE HOSPITAL WHERE STAFF TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO SAVE HIM.

AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATE POSSIBLE DROWNING IN CLEAR LAKE

AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A CLEARLAKE OAKS MAN WHOSE BODY WAS FOUND IN CLEAR LAKE FRIDAY EVENING.

AUTHORITIES RECEIVED A REPORT OF A POSSIBLE DROWNING AT APPROXIMATELY 6 PM IN THE AREA OF BLUE HERON COURT AND SHOREVIEW DRIVE. UPON ARRIVE, THE BODY OF 77 YEAR OLD MAX EARL LAY WAS FOUND FLOATING IN THE LAKE. AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH.

MENDOCINO COUNTY & FEDS MAY BE IN TALKS OVER POT RECORDS

MENDOCINO COUNTY OFFICIALS AND THE US ATTORNEY FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MAY BE TRYING TO RESOLVE OUT OF COURT, THEIR LONG RUNNING DISPUTE OVER RECORDS FROM THE COUNTYS MEDICAL MARIJUANA PROGRAM.

THE COUNTY HAS ASKED A FEDERAL JUDGE TO QUASH A SUBPOENA FOR THE RECORDS THE COUNTY KEEPS IN REGARD TO ITS MEDICAL MARIJUANA ORDINANCE, AND A HEARING IN THE CASE WAS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY. HOWEVER, THE HEARING WAS CANCELLED YESTERDAY, AND FEDERAL PROSECUTORS ASKED TO HAVE THE CASE REMOVED FROM THE COURTS CALENDAR. COUNTY COUNCIL TOM PARKER DECLINED TO COMMENT ON THE MOVES SIGNIFICANCE, BUT ADAM WOLF, A LAWYER REPRESENTING NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MEDICAL MARIJUANA GROWERS IN THE CASE, SAYS A CANCELLATION AT THIS STAGE OF THE PROCEEDINGS OFTEN SIGNALS THAT SETTLEMENT TALKS ARE IN THE WORKS.

A TRAFFIC STOP LED TO SEVERAL STOLEN FIREARMS.

FORT BRAGG POLICE PULLED OVER A VEHICLE FOR SPEEDING LATE LAST FRIDAY NIGHT. THE DRIVER, 51 YEAR OLD LEONARD BEAN OF PENGROVE INDICATED THAT HE HAD FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION IN THE VEHICLE. OFFICERS, WHO WERE AWARE THAT A BURGLARY OF NUMEROUS FIREARMS HAD OCCURRED THE NIGHT BEFORE, NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE FIREARMS MATCHED THOSE STOLEN. OFFICERS THEN LEARNED THAT BEAN WAS A CONVICTED FELON AND WAS PROHIBITED FROM POSSESSING FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION. A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THAT THE SOME OF THE WEAPONS IN THE VEHICLE WERE IN FACT THE SAME GUNS REPORTED STOLEN THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AND BEAN WAS BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS GARBAGE RATE INCREASE

THE LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS A REQUEST BY LAKEPORT DISPOSAL TO RAISE COLLECTION RATES BY 2.7%.

THE RATE HIKES WOULD RAISE MONTHLY FEES FOR CITY RESIDENTS WITH A 20-GALLON RECEPTACLE BY 39 CENTS. A 32-GALLON CAN WOULD GO UP 67 CENTS AND THOSE WITH TWO 32 GALLON RECEPTACLES WOULD PAY A $1.14 MORE. THE COUNCIL WILL MEET TONIGHT AT 6 PM AT CITY HALL.

ROAD WORK TODAY JH 03/19/13

ROAD WORK WILL CAUSE SOME MINOR DELAYS TODAY.

PG&E WILL PERFORM UTILITY REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY 20 JUST WEST OF SARATOGA SPRING ROAD FROM 7 AM TO 4 PM. ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 5 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

THE CITY OF WILLITS WILL PERFORM ROAD WORK ON HUMBOLDT AND MADDEN STREETS TODAY AND TOMORROW. THE STREETS WILL NOT BE CLOSED SIMULTANEOUSLY. CLOSURES WILL BE ISOLATED TO THE AREAS OF WORK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, THE CITY ADVISES AVOIDING THESE TWO STREETS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WHILE THE WORK IS BEING DONE.

MIDDLETOWN BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT IDENTIFIED JH 03/18/13

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT HAS IDENTIFIED THE MAN THEY BELIEVE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BOTH OF THE RECENT MIDDLETOWN BANK ROBBERIES, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHERS AROUND THE STATE.

THE IDENTIFIED SUSPECT IS 23 YEAR OLD JOSHUA JAMES METOXEN, WHOSE LAST KNOWN RESIDENCE WAS IN NAPA COUNTY. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, METOXEN IS ALSO THE PRIME SUSPECT IN SIX OTHER ROBBERIES IN MARIN COUNTY AND SAN MATEO COUNTY. FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH SATURDAY NIGHT JH 03/18/13

A MOTORCYCLE CRASH ON COBB MOUNTAIN SATURDAY NIGHT LEFT ONE MAN DEAD AND ANOTHER HOSPITALIZED.

28 YEAR OLD NATHAN FLETCHER OF COBB WAS RIDING WESTBOUND ON BOTTLE ROCK ROAD JUST BEFORE 11 PM, WHEN FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, HE LOST CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE AND CRASHED. BOTH FLETCHER AND HIS PASSENGER, 28-YEAR-OLD PAUL SILVA WERE THROWN FROM THE BIKE. FLETCHER WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE, AND SILVA WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH MODERATE INJURIES. ACCORDING TO CHP, NEITHER OF THE MEN WERE WEARING HELMETS, AND ALCOHOL APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT, WHICH IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

EARTHQUAKE NEAR LAKE PILLSBURY JH 03/18/13

A MODERATE SIZED EARTHQUAKE SHOOK THE LAKE PILLSBURY AREA SATURDAY NIGHT.

ACCORDING TO A PRELIMINARY REPORT FROM THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, THE QUAKE WAS CENTERED 12 MILES NORTHWEST OF LAKE PILLSBURY AT A DEPTH OF 5.5 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 3.2 MAGNITUDE, AND NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED.

BODY OF MISSING REDWOOD VALLEY MAN FOUND JH 03/18/13

THE BODY OF A MISSING REDWOOD VALLEY MAN WAS FOUND FRIDAY MORNING.

MEMBERS OF THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT SEARCH AND RESCUE AND CALIFORNIA RESCUE DOG ASSOCIATION ARRIVED IN REDWOOD VALLEY AT APPROXIMATELY 9 AM FRIDAY TO SEARCH FOR THOMAS SIERRA, WHO HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE JANUARY 27, WHEN HE WALKED AWAY FROM A FAMILY MEMBERS HOME. WHILE SEARCHING, AUTHORITIES WERE CONTACTED BY AN 8 YEAR OLD BOY WHO SAID HE HAD FOUND A BODY WHILE IN THE AREA WITH HIS DOG. THE BODY WAS IDENTIFIED AS THAT OF THOMAS SIERRA. AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH.

MENDOCINO COUNTYS HEARING, TO FIGHT FEDERAL SUBPOENAS FOR RECORDS THE COUNTY KEEPS REGARDING ITS MEDICAL MARIJUANA ORDINANCE, HAS BEEN PUT OFF AGAIN, THIS TIME INDEFINITELY.

THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME SINCE JANUARY THAT THE HEARING HAS BEEN PUT OFF. ACCORDING TO MENDOCINO COUNTY COUNCIL, THE FEDERAL COURT DID NOT SET A NEW COURT DATE, AND THAT ONE OF THE INVOLVED PARTIES, EITHER THE COUNTY OR THE US ATTORNEYS OFFICE, MUST REQUEST A SPECIFIC DATE TO GET THE CASE BACK ON THE COURTS CALENDAR.

ACTIVISTS HAVE STALLED WORK ON THE BYPASS PROJECT THREE TIMES SINCE JANUARY 28. AND NOW SOME ACTIVISTS HAVE CALLED FOR AN OCCUPY STYLE ENCAMPMENT ALONG HIGHWAY 101 NEAR THE SITE OF AN ONGOING TREE SIT. CAL TRANS IS UNDER GREAT PRESSURE TO FINISH THE FENCING OFF OF THE ROUTE AND REMOVE TREES AND BRUSH ALONG THE PATH BEFORE MORE BIRDS ARRIVE AND BEGIN NESTING. TO STAY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE FEDERAL MIGRATORY BIRD ACT, CAL TRANS MAY HAVE TO DELAY THE ENTIRE PROJECT, IF THEY CANNOT GET THE AREA CLEARED BEFORE MORE BIRDS ARRIVE. THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS EXPECTED TO DISCUSS A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE ON THE COUNTYS SHERIFF, AS WELL AS HEAR A PRESENTATION ON MAKING PUBLIC TELEVISION AVAILABLE FOR FREE TO LOCAL RESIDENTS.

THE FIRST QUAKE STRUCK AT 2:09 AM YESTERDAY AND WAS ORIGINALLY REPORTED BY THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TO REGISTER A 4.6 MAGNITUDE. HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN DOWNGRADED TO A 4.5. TWO IMMEDIATE AFTERSHOCKS FOLLOWED, THE FIRST AT 2:10 REGISTERING A 3.9 MAGNITUDE, AND ANOTHER JUST SECONDS LATER REGISTERING A 3.4 MAGNITUDE. THE THREE MODERATE SIZED TEMBLORS WERE THEN FOLLOWED BY OVER A DOZEN SMALLER AFTERSHOCKS OVER THE NEXT HOUR AND A HALF, RANGING FROM 1.0 TO 2.7 IN MAGNITUDE.

A LAKE COUNTY MAN FACING TWO COUNTS OF VEHICULAR MAN SLAUGHTER AND SEVERAL OTHER CHARGES, CONSIDERS A PLEA DEAL.

27 YEAR OLD DYLAN EUGENE WATERS WAS CHARGED WITH KILLING HIS BROTHER AND ANOTHER MAN IN A HIGHWAY 29 CRASH LAST JULY AFTER DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED. WATERS HAS PLEADED NOT GUILTY IN THIS CASE, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER CRIMES DURING THE WEEKS BEFORE AND AFTER THE ACCIDENT. WATERS ALSO FACES CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH AN ASSAULT, A HOME INVASION, AND A HIGH SPEED CHASE. AUTHORITIES WOULD NOT GIVE DETAILS OF THE PLEA DEAL, BUT SAY IT WOULD RESOLVE ALL OF WATERS PENDING CASES.

THE BATTLE OVER THE WILLITS BYPASS IS HEATING UP, AS ACTIVISTS SAT DOWN IN FRONT OF MOVING EQUIPMENT WEDNESDAY MORNING AND CALLED CAL-TIP TO REPORT VIOLATIONS OF THE MIGRATORY BIRD ACT.

ACCORDING TO REPORTS, ACTIVISTS REFUSE TO ALLOW CONSTRUCTION EFFORTS TO CONTINUE UNTIL ALL PARTIES INVOLVED SIT DOWN WITH SENATOR NOREEN EVENS, WHO HAS VOICED CONCERNS OVER THE PROJECT. AFTER OFFICIALS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE WERE CONTACTED, THEY CONFIRMED THAT CAL TRANS WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO CONTINUE FENCING IN THE WORK SITE AREA, DESPITE BEING UNDER INVESTIGATION AND STILL IN THE PROCESS OF REVISING THEIR PROTOCOLS FOR BIRD SURVEYS.

THE LAKE COUNTY WINE ALLIANCE RECENTLY ISSUED A $2,500 GRANT TO THE CLEAR LAKE PERFORMING ARTS YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAM TO OFFER NO-COST VIOLIN LESSONS.

THE FREE PROGRAM HAS HAD SUCH A LARGE RESPONSE THAT THE ORGANIZATION IS EXPLORING EXPANDING TO OTHER STRING INSTRUMENTS. HOWEVER, THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM HAS ALSO LED TO A SHORTAGE OF FUNDING FOR MORE TEACHERS AND INSTRUMENTS. TWO MEN FORCED ENTRY INTO A BROOKTRAILS HOME AND ASSAULTED THE RESIDENTS MONDAY NIGHT.

48 YEAR OLD SAMPSON SMITH AND 34 YEAR OLD VAN SLAGLE KICKED IN THE FRONT DOOR OF A HOME AND BEGAN PUNCHING 39 YEAR OLD ORION STRONG AND 54 YEAR OLD SYLVIA SMITH, WHILE DEMANDING MONEY. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, STRONG OWED SAMPSON SMITH MONEY DUE TO A PREVIOUS LOAN. SAMPSON SMITH AND VAN SLAGLE THEN TOOK A BOTTLE OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION FROM THE HOME AND FLED IN A VEHICLE. CHEMICAL SPILL OVER GOLD JH 03/14/13

A MONDAY NIGHT CHEMICAL SPILL IN CLEARLAKE WAS NOT DRUG RELATED, BUT RATHER AN EFFORT TO CLAIM GOLD.

TWO CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS AND ONE SUSPECT WERE HOSPITALIZED AFTER A CHEMICAL SPILL AT A HOUSE WHERE AUTHORITIES HAD PREVIOUSLY RESPONDED TO A REPORTED METHAMPHETAMINE LAB JUST THREE WEEKS AGO. HOWEVER, THE CHEMICALS WERE NOT RELATED TO THE MANUFACTURING OF METH. INSTEAD, A RELATIVE OF THE MAN ARRESTED FOR THE ALLEGED METH LAB, WAS STRIPPING DOWN ELECTRONICS TO RETRIEVE TINY AMOUNTS OF GOLD. THE TOXIC CHEMICALS WERE NEUTRALIZED AND CLEANED UP WITHIN A FEW HOURS.

TWO SUPERVISORS HAVE REQUESTED THEIR COLLEAGUES ISSUE A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN SHERIFF RIVERO AND ASK FOR HIS RESIGNATION.

A TRUCK WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AFTER IT CAUGHT FIRE IN A LOWER LAKE PARKING LOT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

THE VEHICLES OWNER UNSUCCESSFULLY ATTEMPTED TO PUT OUT THE BLAZE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. FIREFIGHTERS CONTAINED THE FLAMES IN JUST MINUTES, BUT ONLY AFTER IT CAUSED MODERATE DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE PARKED NEXT TO IT. THE FIRE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED DUE TO FAULTY WIRING; HOWEVER, THE INCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

TEACHERS AGREEMENT A STEP CLOSER TO IMPLEMENTATION

AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UKIAH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION AND THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO IMPLEMENTATION.

LAST MONTH, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REACHED AN AGREEMENT AFTER THE DISTRICT OFFERED TO USE ITS AVAILABLE RESERVES TO RAISE TEACHERS SALARIES AND OFFER RETIREMENT INCENTIVES. HOWEVER, FOR THE NUMBERS TO WORK OUT, THE DISTRICT NEEDED AT LEAST 15 TEACHERS TO RETIRE. IT WAS ANNOUNCED TUESDAY, THAT 21 TEACHERS HAVE AGREED TO ACCEPT THE RETIREMENT PACKAGE. A GOOD SIZED EARTHQUAKE SHOOK LAKE COUNTY EARLY THIS MORNING AND COULD BE FELT AS FAR AWAY AS SAN FRANCISCO.

ACCORDING TO THE US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 2:09 THIS MORNING CENTERED JUST 2 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE GEYSERS AT A DEPTH OF ONLY 1.2 MILES. THE TEMBLOR REGISTERED A 4.6 MAGNITUDE AND WAS FOLLOWED BY MORE THAN A DOZEN AFTERSHOCKS.

TRANSIENT ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY JH 03/13/13

A UKIAH TRANSIENT WAS ARRESTED AFTER BEING CAUGHT TRYING TO STEAL FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS.

THE OWNER OF A STORE ON WAUGH LANE SAW 54 YEAR OLD ALFRED DOMINIAK ATTEMPTING TO TAKE ITEMS FROM HIS BUSINESS MONDAY EVENING. HE TOLD DOMINIAK HE WAS CALLING POLICE, AND THE SUSPECT TRIED TO FLEE. THE STORE OWNER AND DOMINIAK THEN GOT INTO A PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION BEFORE THE SUSPECT AGAIN FLED UP THE STREET AND OVER A FENCE NEAR THE RAILROAD TRACKS. A SEARCH OF THE AREA BY UKIAH POLICE FOUND DOMINIAK HIDING BEHIND SOME GENERATORS. HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

CAREGIVER CHARGED WITH SEVERE NEGLECT JH 03/13/13

A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEVERE ABUSE AND NEGLECT OF A DEPENDANT ADULT.

THE VICTIM, IDENTIFIED ONLY AS A 32 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH A NUMBER OF LONG TERM ILLNESSES REQUIRING HER TO HAVE CONSTANT CARE, WAS TAKEN TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER THURSDAY AFTER THE CAREGIVER, WHO WAS ALSO IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WOMAN, CALLED AN AMBULANCE. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WOMAN HAD SEVERE LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL CONDITIONS DUE TO NEGLECT. UKIAH POLICE IMMEDIATELY TOOK OVER THE INVESTIGATION. A SEARCH OF THE APARTMENT THE COUPLE SHARED FOUND THAT THE VICTIM HAD BEEN LYING IN HER OWN WASTE, MALNOURISHED, DEHYDRATED AND WITH NUMEROUS BEDSORES. HER CARETAKER AND BOYFRIEND, 52 YEAR OLD THOMAS WINKLE WAS BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

SKELETON FOUND NEAR EEL RIVER STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES IN DETERMINING THE IDENTITY OF A SKELETON FOUND ALONG THE EEL RIVER IN PIERCY LAST OCTOBER.

SHERIFFS DETECTIVES RECEIVED A REPORT MONDAY FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHICO HUMAN IDENTIFICATION LABORATORY THAT DETERMINED THE REMAINS WERE THAT OF A WHITE MALE ADULT, APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 45 YEARS OLD, WITH A HEIGHT BETWEEN 5 FEET 11 INCHES AND 6 FEET 5 INCHES. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THEY ARE TRYING TO ESTABLISH A DNA PROFILE TO COMPARE AGAINST ACTIVE MISSING PERSONS CASES. AUTHORITIES WERE CONTACTED AFTER A 2 YEAR OLD WAS ADMITTED TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER WITH A LIFE THREATENING LEVEL OF BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT AND THE PRESENCE OF METHAMPHETAMINE IN HIS SYSTEM.

WHEN THE CHILDS GRANDMOTHER PICKED HIM UP FROM HIS MOTHERS RESIDENCE, SHE NOTICED THE BOY APPEARED ILL AND WHILE DRIVING HOME, SMELLED ALCOHOL AFTER THE CHILD VOMITED. DEPUTIES CONTACTED THE MOTHER, 22 YEAR OLD SAMANTHA DELVALLE AND 21 YEAR OLD RAYMOND MAYBERY AT THEIR RESIDENCE AND NOTICED THEY BOTH APPEARED TO BU INTOXICATED AND UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. A SEARCH FOUND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, AND BOTH DELVALLE AND MAYBERY WERE ARRESTED FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND OTHER CHARGES.

30 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER SKAGGS AND 42 YEAR OLD WALTER MILLER ARE CONSIDERED PERSONS OF INTEREST IN A FEBRUARY 19TH HOME ROBBERY IN REDWOOD VALLEY AND IN A FEBRUARY 21ST HOME BURGLARY IN UKIAH. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, ON MARCH 1ST, DEPUTIES SPOTTED A VEHICLE ON NORTH STATE STREET UKIAH THAT WAS REPORTEDLY ASSOCIATED WITH FEBRUARY 19TH AND 21ST INCIDENTS. DEPUTIES TRIED TO PULL OVER THE VEHICLE, BUT THE DRIVER, 31 YEAR OLD GARY ROBERT VILLA OF UKIAH, FAILED TO STOP FOR OVER A MILE. DURING LAST WEEKS BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING, PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC AND THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE INVESTOR OWNED UTILITY PARTNERSHIP PRESENTED THE BOARD WITH A REBATE CHECK OF JUST OVER $293,000 FOR ITS RECENT ENERGY EFFICIENT UPGRADES AND ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING DESIGN OF THE NEW LIBRARY LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER. PG&E ALSO PRESENTED A SECOND CHECK OF $500,000 FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE UTILITY ZERO PERCENT ON-BILL FINANCING LOAN PROGRAM TO FUND ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPGRADES. A FORT BRAGG WOMAN WAS ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND FOR CHARGES OF MAYHEM AND ELDER ABUSE.

AN UNIDENTIFIED ELDERLY FEMALE CALLED POLICE SATURDAY TO REPORT HER CARETAKER, 60-YEAR-OLD CHRISTINE TURNER, HAD BITTEN HER ON THE WRIST. THE VICTIM THEN FLED HER SOUTH HAROLD STREET HOME TO SEEK ASSISTANCE FROM A NEIGHBOR. AFTER AUTHORITIES SAW THE DISFIGURING WOUND, A WITNESS WAS CONTACTED WHO INDICATED THAT TURNER HAD ALSO BEEN VERBALLY ABUSIVE TOWARDS THE VICTIM, AND THAT THERE HAD BEEN PREVIOUS INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE WHERE TURNER WAS THE SUSPECT. TURNER, WHO DENIED THE CHARGES, WAS BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

THE LAKE COUNTY NEWS REACHED A SETTLEMENT IN A DISCRIMINATION CASE AGAINST LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF FRANK RIVERO.

NEIGHBORS REPORTED A FOUL ODOR COMING FROM A CLEARLAKE HOUSE WHERE AUTHORITIES HAD PREVIOUSLY RESPONDED TO A REPORTED METHAMPHETAMINE LAB JUST THREE WEEKS AGO. THE FIRST TWO OFFICERS TO ARRIVE WERE OVERCOME BY ODORS AND BECAME ILL. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, FIRE PERSONNEL THEN RESPONDED WITH PROTECTIVE BREATHING APPARATUSES. IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT CHEMICALS WERE SPILLED AND THE INCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

STRANGER TRIES TO TAKE A GUN FROM A CLOVERDALE MAN JH 03/12/13

A STRUGGLE OVER A HANDGUN BETWEEN TWO CLOVERDALE RESIDENTS, ENDED WITH THE GUN FIRING AND ONE MAN INJURED FROM THE STRUGGLE.

AT APPROXIMATELY 11:40 AM YESTERDAY MORNING, THE SUSPECT SHOWED UP IN THE FRONT YARD OF A WILSON ROAD HOME, ACTING PANICKED AND SAYING SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO KILL HIM. A RESIDENT OF THE HOME, WHO DIDNT RECOGNIZE THE MAN IN HIS YARD, CALLED AUTHORITIES. THE RESIDENT THEN GRABBED A HANDGUN AND ATTEMPTED TO HELP THE MAN LOOK FOR THE ALLEGED ASSAILANT. THE SUSPECT THEN GRABBED THE GUN AND A STRUGGLE ENSUED. THE GUN WENT OFF, HOWEVER, NO ONE WAS SHOT, THE SLIDE ON THE GUN CAME BACK AND GOUGED THE SUSPECT, WHO WAS THEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND TAKEN FOR A MEDICAL AND MENTAL EVALUATION. THE INCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A NEIGHBOR REPORTED THE ALBION RIDGE HOME WAS ON FIRE AT APPROXIMATELY 6 PM. BY THE TIME FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED, THE HOME WAS FULLY ENGULFED AND THREATENING A NEARBY STRUCTURE. VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS SAVED THE SECONDARY STRUCTURE AND EXTINGUISHED THE HOME USING WATER FROM A NEARBY POND. 40 YEAR OLD CYBELE ORNELAS WAS RIDING HER BICYCLE ACROSS PINE STREET LAST TUESDAY NIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 8:55 PM, WHEN A BLACK LATE MODEL CADILLAC CTS 4-DOOR TURNED LEFT FROM MAIN STREET AND HIT HER BIKE CAUSING HER TO BE THROWN TO THE GROUND WITH MINOR INJURIES. THE CADILLAC NEVER STOPPED, AND WAS LAST SEEN HEADED NORTH ON FRANKLIN STREET. BANK EMPLOYEES CONTACT AUTHORITIES BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT THE MAN, WHO WAS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE, APPROXIMATELY 5 FOOT 9 INCHES TALL WITH A STOCKY BUILD, MAY HAVE BEEN THERE TO ROB THE BANK. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, A MAN MATCHING THE SAME DESCRIPTION ROBBED THE WEST AMERICA BANK A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY. A LOCAL MAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A MOTORCYCLE CRASH RECENTLY.

DAN JOHNSON OF UKIAH HAD JUST FINISHED WORKING ON A MOTORCYCLE WHEN, DURING THE TEST RIDE, HE CRASHED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. JOHNSON SUFFERED A MAJOR HEAD INJURY AND WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. HE HAD TO BE PUT INTO A MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA, WHERE HE HAS REMAINED FOR THE LAST WEEK. THE PRIMARY SUSPECT IN THE ARSON CASE THAT SAW THE FIRCREST APARTMENT COMPLEX IN UKIAH HAVE EIGHT UNITS DESTROYED, WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING EVICTED.

THE WOMAN, WHOSE NAME IS NOT BEING RELEASED, IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED A DOZEN FIRES AROUND THE APARTMENT COMPLEX SINCE LAST OCTOBER, AND WAS THE REPORTING PARTY IN MOST OF THE INSTANCES, WHICH, ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES IS COMMON BEHAVIOR FOR AN ARSONIST. THE SAME WOMAN IS BELIEVED TO HAVE STARTED SEVERAL FIRES AT TWO DIFFERENT APARTMENT COMPLEXES SHE PREVIOUSLY LIVED IN, IN MERCED. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NEVER ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR AN ARREST.
