THE SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING CLEARLAKE CHILD JH 05/14/13

THE SEARCH CONTINUES TODAY, FOR MIKAELA RENEE LYNCH, THE 9 YEAR OLD AUTISTIC GIRL WHO DISAPPEARED FROM HER FAMILYS VACATION HOME IN CLEARLAKE SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

MIKAELA WAS LAST SEEN IN THE YARD OF HER FAMILIES HOME ON HARBOR LANE AROUND 1:30 SUNDAY. BECAUSE THE CHILD IS AUTISTIC AND CANNOT SPEAK, SHE IS CONSIDERED AT RISK. AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR MIKAELA USING HELICOPTERS, DOGS AND EVERY OTHER AVAILABLE RESOURCE. AUTHORITIES BELIEVE MIKAELA IS NAKED AND SHOELESS. ACCORDING TO THE FAMILY, MIKAELA OFTEN REMOVES HER CLOTHING WHEN HOT, AND SEVERAL ARTICLES OF HER CLOTHES WERE FOUND IN THE YARD. THE GIRL ALSO TYPICALLY WORE A DIAPER, WHICH WAS FOUND NEAR CACHE CREEK AT LEAST ONE HOUSE AWAY. AUTHORITIES HAVE BEEN SEARCHING THE CREEK EXTENSIVELY, BUT THE MURKY WATERS MAKE IT DIFFICULT. DOGS TRAINED TO DETECT THE SCENT OF HUMAN BODIES IN WATER HAVE ALERTED SEVERAL TIMES, HOWEVER, DIVERS HAVE FOUND NOTHING UNDERWATER. MIKAELA IS DESCRIBED AS 4 FEET TALL, WEIGHING 70 POUNDS, WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLUE EYES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON HER WHEREABOUTS IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 994-8251.

4 YEAR OLD DROWNS IN POOL JH 05/14/13

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD REDWOOD VALLEY BOY DROWNED SATURDAY WHILE VISITING WITH FAMILY NEAR UKIAH.

ACCORDING TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE, THE BOY, IDENTIFIED AS AARON HALLMAN, WAS PLAYING WITH OTHER CHILDREN ON THE PATIO OF A PARDUCCI ROAD HOME WHEN HE DISAPPEARED. WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS REALIZED HE WASNT WITH THE OTHER CHILDREN THEY BEGAN SEARCHING THE PROPERTY. YOUNG HALLMAN WAS FOUND DROWN IN THE POOL.

3 PROTESTERS ARRESTED OVER WILLITS BYPASS PROJECT JH 05/14/13

THREE PROTESTERS WERE ARRESTED YESTERDAY IN TWO SEPARATE LOCATIONS, AFTER THEY SHUT DOWN WORK AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY 101 BYPASS AROUND WILLITS.

ON THE SOUTH END OF THE PROJECT WHERE CAL TRANS WAS CLEARING THE HILLSIDE FOR THE HIGHWAY, 66-YEAR-OLD ROBERT CHEVALIER OF WILLITS USED A STEEL DEVICE KNOWN AS A LOCK BOX TO LOCK DOWN TO A CATERPILLAR TRACTOR AND WAS ARRESTED. PROTESTERS ALSO GATHERED ON EAST COMMERCIAL STREET WHERE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS WERE BEING DELIVERED FOR THE PROJECT. ONE OF THE PROTEST ORGANIZERS, SARA GRUSKY OF GREEN UPRISING FARMS, WAS ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING AS SHE WALKED INTO THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE. SHE RESISTED AND WAS HANDCUFFED ON THE GROUND. 75-YEAR-OLD ELLEN FAULKNER WAS ALSO ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING. THIS WAS FAULKNERS FOURTH ARREST DURING BYPASS PROTESTS. THE PROTESTERS SAY THE BYPASS PROJECT WILL DESTROY THE ENVIRONMENT IN LITTLE LAKE VALLEY, IS TOO EXPENSIVE, AND WILL NOT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE TRAFFIC CONGESTION.

BROOKTRAILS TO RECONSIDER BYPASS SUPPORT TODAY JH 05/14/13

THE BROOKTRAILS BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE EXPECTED TO RECONSIDER THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE HIGHWAY 101 BYPASS AROUND WILLITS AT TONIGHTS MEETING.

IN MARCH, THE BOARD VOTED UNANIMOUSLY ON A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE PROJECT, WITH ONLY 4 MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC PRESENT AT THE MEETING. THE VOTE HAPPENED TO OCCUR ON THE SAME DAY AN OVERFLOW CROWD, INCLUDING MANY BROOKTRAILS RESIDENTS, OBJECTED TO A SIMILAR PRO-BYPASS LETTER PROPOSED BY THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS. SINCE, MANY BROOKTRAILS RESIDENTS HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR DISAPPROVAL OF THE ENDORSEMENT BY THE BOARD, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS WILL MEET TONIGHT AT 7 PM TO ALLOW MORE OF THE COMMUNITY TO VOICE THEIR OPINIONS ABOUT THE BYPASS PROJECT.

DOG ALLEGEDLY CAUSES CAR CRASH JH 05/14/13

A HEAD-ON COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 20 YESTERDAY, WAS ALLEGEDLY CAUSED BY A DOG JUMPING ONTO THE DRIVERS LAP.

35-YEAR-OLD SHARON SMITH WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR THE HIGHWAY 29 INTERSECTION, WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO TURN LEFT INTO A PARKING LOT. HER DOG THEN JUMPED ONTO HER LAP, CAUSING HER TO SWERVE INTO THE EASTBOUND LANE AND CRASH INTO 50-YEAR-OLD LINDA CHAPMAN. CHAPMAN WAS TAKEN TO SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL AFTER COMPLAINING OF BACK PAIN. THE COLLISION IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE JH 05/14/13

THANKS TO THE RAPID REACTION OF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS IN LOWER LAKE, A STRUCTURE FIRE WAS CONTAINED QUICKLY.

TWO ENGINES RESPONDED TO THE FIRE AT THE WEST COAST O.G. RIDERZ CLUB HOUSE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, BUT IT WAS THE FAST-ACTING VOLUNTEERS OF THE LAKE COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT THAT WERE CREDITED WITH SAVING THE STRUCTURE. CAUSE OF THE FIRE REMAINS UNKNOWN AND UNDER INVESTIGATION.

B-17 BOMBER IN UKIAH JH 05/14/13

A WORLD WAS II B-17 BOMBER FLEW INTO UKIAH YESTERDAY, AND WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR RIDES AND GROUND TOURS THIS WEEK.

THE B-17 G FLYING FORTRESS ALUMINUM OVERCAST IS ONE OF ONLY 14 STILL IN EXISTENCE. ACCORDING TO THE CREW, THESE AIRCRAFT REQUIRED 10 CREWMEN, AND HOUSED 13 50-CALIBER MACHINE GUNS AND 8,000 POUNDS OF BOMBS WILE IN COMBAT. THIS PARTICULAR PLANE WAS BUILT IN MAY 1945, AND NEVER SAW ANY ACTION DURING THE WAR BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT NEAR THE WARS END. ITS VISIT TO UKIAH IS THANKS TO THREE YEARS OF EFFORT BY MEMBERS OF THE WILLITS CHAPTER OF THE EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION.
