MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AGREES TO PINOLEVILLE CASINO DEAL JH 05/28/13

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERVISORS HAVE SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE PINOLEVILLE POMO NATION IN REGARD TO THE IMPACTS OF A CASINO AND HOTEL THE TRIBE IS PROPOSING TO BUILD JUST NORTH OF UKIAH.

THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SPECIFIES THAT THE TRIBE WILL PROVIDE FUNDING TO THE UKIAH FIRE DISTRICT, AS WELL AS THE MILLVIEW WATER DISTRICTS AND OTHER CITY AND COUNTY AGENCIES FOR SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE NEW CASINO PROJECT. THE PROPOSED CASINO WOULD BE BUILT IN TWO PHASES ON 8.8 ACRES OF RESERVATION LAND AT 2150 NORTH STATE STREET IN UKIAH. IT WOULD INCLUDE ABOUT 80,000 SQUARE FEET OF GAMING SPACE ALONG WITH RESTAURANTS AND RETAIL SHOPPING, AS WELL AS A POSSIBLE FOUR-STORY, 25 ROOM HOTEL AND EVENT CENTER AND PARKING STRUCTURE.

62 YEAR OLD STEVEN WAYNE MITCHELL FACED FIVE FELONY COUNTS OF LEWD AND LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH A CHILD UNDER 14 AND WAS REPORTEDLY THE SUBJECT OF AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL MISCONDUCT WITH AN 11 YEAR OLD GIRL FROM SPRING VALLEY. MITCHELL DIED IN CLEARLAKE FROM A SELF INFLICTED GUN SHOT WOUND TO THE HEAD.

A CAL TRANS SUBCONTRACTOR WILL PERFORM BRIDGE REHABILITATION AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON HIGHWAY 101 FROM THE PIETA CREEK BRIDGE TO THE ROUTE 20 AND 101 INTERCHANGE BEGINNING TODAY FROM 7 AM TO 7 PM. WORK WILL BE ONGOING ON WEEKDAYS. TRAFFIC WILL BE RESTRICTED TO ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION OF TRAVEL. MOTORISTS MAY EXPERIENCE MINOR SLOWDOWNS.

PG&E WILL PERFORM UTILITY REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY 1 NEAR CREAMERY LANE FROM 9:30 AM TO 3 PM. ONE-WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 5-MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.

SKUNK TRAIN RAISING FUNDS TO REPAIR TUNNEL COLLAPSE JH 05/28/13

FANS OF THE SKUNK TRAIN HAVE ALREADY KICKED IN ABOUT $20,000 SO FAR TO HELP RAISE THE FUNDS TO CLEAR A TUNNEL THAT COLLAPSED IN APRIL.

THE RAILWAY COMPANY NEEDS TO RAISE $300,000 TO CLEAR THE COLLAPSED TUNNEL, OR THE SKINK TRAIN MAY SHUT DOWN INDEFINITELY. THE COMPANY LAUNCHED A PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN EARLIER THIS MONTH, ASKING FOR DONATIONS AND SELLING YEARLONG AND LIFETIME PASSES FOR RIDES ON THE TRAIN. OFFICIALS FROM THE COMPANY HAVE ALSO SAID THAT THEY HOPE TO RAISE FUNDS THROUGH THE WEBSITE KICKSTARTER, BUT THE CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN DELAYED BY TECHNICAL PROBLEMS. WHILE THAT IS PENDING, THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED A FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN THROUGH A SIMILAR ONLINE FUNDRAISING SITE CALLED GOFUNDME. THAT CAMPAIGN OPENED THURSDAY AND HAS ALREADY RAISED OVER $7,000. THE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN WILL HOPEFULLY BE UP AND RUNNING SOON AS WELL.

THE LAKE COUNTY/CITY AREA PLANNING COUNCIL AND CAL TRANS ARE HOSTING THE SECOND COMMUNITY MEETING FOR THE HIGHWAY 29 SOUTH CORRIDOR ENGINEERED FEASIBILITY STUDY.

THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT IS IMPLEMENTING FIRE RESTRICTIONS ON PUBLIC LANDS MANAGED BY THE UKIAH FIELD OFFICE.

THE FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE EFFECTIVE AS OF TODAY, MAY 28TH. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, ALL CAMPFIRES AND BARBEQUES ARE PROHIBITED EXCEPT IN SPECIFIC DEVELOPED CAMPGROUNDS AT COW MOUNTAIN, INDIAN VALLEY RESERVOIR AND KNOXVILLE. PORTABLE STOVES WITH GAS, JELLIED PETROLEUM OR PRESSURED LIQUID FUEL ARE AUTHORIZED WITH A VALID CALIFORNIA CAMPFIRE PERMIT, BUT THE PUBLIC IS ASKED TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH THEIR USE AND CARRY A SHOVEL AND WATER AT ALL TIMES. EFFORT TO ADDRESS THE SPREAD OF CYANOBACTERIA AND WEST NILE VIRUS IN CLEAR LAKE JH 05/28/13

COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND LOCAL AGENCIES HAVE PARTNERED TO GET AHEAD OF POTENTIAL ISSUES WITH ALGAE BUILDUP IN CLEAR LAKE.

PROTECTIVE BOOMS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN LOCATIONS IN THE CLEARLAKE OAKS AREA, IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT THE BLUE-GREEN ALGAE, CALLED CYANOBACTERIA, FROM REACHING BOAT LAUNCH AREAS, RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE WATER DISTRICT. MORE BOOMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE INSTALLED IN COMING WEEKS. IF BOATING ON THE LAKE, BE AWARE OF THE BOOMS AND WATCH FOR THEM.

LAKEPORT NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH JH 05/28/13

THE LAKEPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT COORDINATES AN ACTIVE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF LAKEPORT AND IS LOOKING TO EXPAND ITS NETWORK OF NEIGHBORS LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER.

THE PROGRAM OPERATES BY GROUPS OF NEIGHBORS ORGANIZING TO WATCH FOR SUSPICIOUS CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AND REPORT IT TO THE POLICE. THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH COORDINATOR IN TURN KEEPS THESE GROUPS INFORMED ON UP-TO-DATE CRIME TRENDS IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING EDUCATION ON HOME SECURITY AND SAFETY CONCERNS.
