TWO FORT BRAGG BOYS DIED TUESDAY IN AN ATV ACCIDENT (LAW)

TWO YOUNG BROTHERS FROM FORT BRAGG DIED TUESDAY EVENING AFTER THEY CRASHED AN ATV ON THE PROPERTY WHERE THEY LIVED.

ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE BOYS WERE 8 AND 6 YEARS OLD, WITH THE OLDER BROTHER DRIVING THE ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE. THE BOYS WERE RIDING NORTHBOUND IN A PASTURE WHEN THE ATV HIT A DIRT EMBANKMENT AND BECAME AIRBORNE. WHEN THE VEHICLE LANDED ON ITS FRONT END, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND THE PASSENGER WAS THROWN OFF, WITH THE DRIVER ALSO FALLING OFF MOMENTS LATER. THE PASSENGER AND YOUNGER BROTHER WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THE DRIVER, AND OLDER BROTHER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL, WHERE HE LATER DIED. THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE DOES NOT WANT TO RELEASE THE NAMES OF THE BOYS UNTIL THE INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETE.

OREGON MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN WILLITS (LAW) JH 10/24/13

A MURDER SUSPECT FROM OREGON WAS ARRESTED IN WILLITS ON TUESDAY.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM POLICE IN SPRINGFIELD, OREGON AND WERE ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE IN THE CAPTURE OF AN ALLEGED HOMICIDE SUSPECT WHO WAS CURRENTLY KNOWN TO BE AT A RESIDENCE ON PRIMROSE DRIVE IN WILLITS. DEPUTIES LOCATED THE SUSPECT, 23 YEAR OLD SEAN PATRICK KELLEY, AT THE RESIDENCE AND TOOK HIM INTO CUSTODY. KELLEY WILL REMAIN AT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL PENDING EXTRADITION TO OREGON.

CITY OF UKIAH BOARD AND COMMISSION SEATS OPEN (GOV) JH 10/24/13

THE CITY OF UKIAH HAS ANNOUNCED VACANCIES FOR OPEN SEATS ON FOUR OF ITS BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.

THERE ARE OPENINGS ON THE BUILDING BOARD OF APPEALS, THE DEMOLITION PERMIT REVIEW COMMITTEE; THE PARKS, RECREATION AND GOLF COMMISSION; AND THE TRAFFIC ENGINEERING COMMITTEE. QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS WHO WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY AND ARE INTERESTED IN SERVING AS A VOLUNTEER ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE CIVIC CENTER ON SEMINARY AVENUE, THE UKIAH CIVIC CENTER ANNEX ON WEST CLAY AND ON THE CITY WEB SITE. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IS NOVEMBER 25TH.

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS INVESTIGATE SUNDAY NIGHT ARMED ROBBERY OF DRUGS AND CASH (LAW) JH 10/24/13

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING A SUNDAY NIGHT ARMED ROBBERY IN NICE, DURING WHICH DRUGS AND CASH WERE STOLEN.

ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE VICTIM HAD MADE A DRUG TRADE OF MARIJUANA FOR METH ON SATURDAY WITH TWO ACQUAINTANCES, KNOWN ONLY AS CAROLINA AND EDUARDO. ON SUNDAY, CAROLINA RETURNED IN A CREAM COLORED CADILLAC ESCALADE WITH TWO OTHER HISPANIC MEN. ALL THREE SUSPECTS PULLED GUNS ON THE VICTIM AND A FRIEND OF THE VICTIM AND TIED THEM UP, WHILE STEALING $2,000 IN CASH, A HALF OUNCE OF METHAMPHETAMINE, AND SEVERAL DOZEN POUNDS OF POT. THE VICTIM DESCRIBED CAROLINA AS A HISPANIC FEMALE APPROXIMATELY 30 YEARS OLD, 5 FEET 6 INCHES TALL WITH LONG BROWN HAIR AND BROWN EYES. THE SECOND SUSPECT WAS DESCRIBED AS APPROXIMATELY 30-YEAR-OLD MALE WITH WELL TRIMMED BROWN HAIR AND BROWN EYES. THE THIRD SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A MALE APPROXIMATELY 45 YEARS OLD WITH FAIR SKIN AND A GOATEE. HE WORE A BASEBALL CAP WITH WELL GROOMED HAIR SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN SUSPECT NUMBER TWO. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THIS INVESTIGATION IS URGED TO CONTACT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT AT 263-2690.

CITY DIALOGUE MEETING IN FORT BRAGG FRIDAY (GOV) JH 10/24/13

THE CITY OF FORT BRAGG WILL BE HOSTING A CITY DIALOGUE MEETING FRIDAY TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION WITH DOWNTOWN BUSINESSPEOPLE, PROPERTY OWNERS, AND INTERESTED COMMUNITY MEMBERS ABOUT THE MAIN STREET MERGE LANE RELOCATION PROJECT.

THE PROJECT IS SCHEDULED FOR CONSTRUCTION IN 2014 AND WILL INVOLVE REALIGNING MAIN STREET BETWEEN OAK AND LAUREL STREETS TO MOVE THE MERGE LANE ONE BLOCK TO THE SOUTH AND TO INSTALL STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS. THIS IS THE LAST COMMUNITY MEETING ABOUT THE PROJECT BEFORE IT IS PRESENTED TO THE CITY COUNCIL ON OCTOBER 28TH. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW, OCTOBER 25TH AT THE FORT BRAGG TOWN HALL.

MIDDLETOWN TOWN HALL TO BE HOSTED BY CONGRESSMAN MIKE THOMPSON (GOV) JH 10/24/13

A SPECIAL TOWN HALL MEETING WILL BE HELD IN MIDDLETOWN AND HOSTED BY CONGRESSMAN MIKE THOMPSON ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH.

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE MEETING THAT WILL FOCUS ON NATIONAL ISSUES. CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON WILL GIVE THE OPENING REMARKS AND THEN TAKE QUESTIONS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 4TH FROM 6 TO 7 PM AT THE NEW MIDDLETOWN COMMUNITY CENTER.

BROADBAND ALLIANCE OF MENDO CO MEETING THIS WEEK (BB)

THE BROADBAND ALLIANCE OF MENDOCINO COUNTY WILL MEET FRIDAY MORNING TO DISCUSS SEVERAL PROJECTS THAT ARE INTENDED TO BRING HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS TO UNSERVED AND UNDERSERVED NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

JOIN THE MEETING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MIDDLE-MILE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT, AS WELL AS THE ROUTE 1 CORRIDOR PROJECT THAT FOCUSES ON BRINGING UPGRADED BROADBAND SERVICE TO THE MENDOCINO COAST. THE MEETING WILL BE TOMORROW, OCTOBER 25 FROM 10 TO 11:30 AM AT THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF MENDOCINO COUNTY ON OAK STREET.
