THE RESULTS ON AN AUTOPSY PERFORMED ON A BABY BOY WHO WAS DROPPED OFF AT UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER EARLIER THIS MONTH MAY BE RELEASED THIS WEEK.

ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, CAUSE OF DEATH IS STILL UNKNOWN, AS THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF TRAUMA ON THE 5-MONTH OLD, AND THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE RESULTS OF TOXICOLOGY TESTS TO DETERMINE WHAT SUBSTANCES MAY HAVE BEEN IN THE CHILDS SYSTEM.

THE BOYS FATHER, 36-YEAR-OLD CASIMIR GEORGE JANUSZ WHO REPORTEDLY DISAPPEARED AFTER TAKING HIS SON TO THE HOSPITAL ON OCTOBER 16, IS STILL MISSING. CURRENTLY, AUTHORITIES ARE ONLY SEEKING JANUSZ AS A MISSING PERSON, AS HIS VEHICLE WAS FOUND NEAR HIS FAMILYS PROPERTY IN HOPLAND, AND NO ONE HAS SEEN OR HEARD FROM HIM SINCE HE DROPPED OFF HIS SON AT THE HOSPITAL. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT JANUSZ OR HIS WHEREABOUTS IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 463-6262.

TWO PEOPLE FOUND DEAD IN MINIVAN NEAR FORT BRAGG WERE SHOT (LAW) JH 10/30/13

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY THAT THE TWO BAY AREA RESIDENTS THAT WERE FOUND DEAD IN A MINIVAN ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR FORT BRAGG, HAD EACH BEEN SHOT ONCE IN THE HEAD.

AUTHORITIES ARE STILL WAITING FOR TOXICOLOGY AND BLOOD-ALCOHOL RESULTS FROM THE AUTOPSIES, AND NO OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE KILLINGS HAVE BEEN RELEASED AT THIS TIME. THE BODIES OF 38 YEAR OLD CINDY BAO FENG CHEN OF SAN FRANCISCO AND 51 YEAR OLD JIM TAT KONG OF SAN PABLO WERE FOUND IN THE FRONT SEATS OF A VAN PARKED ALONG HIGHWAY 20 JUST 3 MILES EAST OF FORT BRAGG ON OCTOBER 17TH. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOUBLE HOMICIDE IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS TIP LINE AT 234-2100.

LAKESIDE HEIGHTS HOME COLLAPSES (PI) JH 10/30/13

A HOME COLLAPSED ON MONDAY IN THE LAKEPORT SUBDIVISION WHERE SEVERAL HOMES WERE DAMAGED BY LANDSLIDE EARLIER THIS YEAR.

THE HOME THAT COLLAPSED HAD BEEN HALFWAY SUSPENDED ON THE HILLSIDE AFTER PART OF ITS FLOOR HAD ALREADY FALLEN OFF. MONDAY, THE BACK HALF OF THE HOME SPLIT OFF AND SLID DOWN THE HILLSIDE. TWO HOMES WERE DEMOLISHED EARLIER THIS MONTH, AND AS PART OF AN EFFORT TO WINTERIZE AND STABILIZE THE HILLSIDE, IT HAS BEEN COVERED WITH TARPS. THE CAUSE OF THE SLIDES IS STILL IN DISPUTE, BUT THE SUBDIVISIONS PROPERTY OWNERS, WHO ARE PREPARING TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COUNTY, BLAME THE COUNTY WATER SYSTEM FOR SATURATING THE HILLSIDE, WHILE COUNTY OFFICIALS BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING ELSE WAS THE CAUSE.

LOSS OF FEDERAL FUNDING JEOPARDIZES YEAR-ROUND OPERATION OF UKIAH SHELTER (GOV/ECN) JH 10/30/13

UKIAHS HOMELESS SHELTER MAY HAVE TO CLOSE ITS DOORS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AFTER LOOSING FEDERAL FUNDING.

ACCORDING TO THE SHELTERS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, IF THE $120,000 SHORTFALL IN THE BUDGET CANT BE REPLACED, ALL SERVICES WILL HAVE TO STOP FOR A PORTION OF THE YEAR. THOSE SERVICES INCLUDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING, BEDS FOR THOSE RECOVERING FROM DRUG OR ALCOHOL ADDICTION, BEDS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL, HELP WITH JOB TRAINING IN THE SHELTERS GARDEN AND KITCHEN, AND ACCESS TO STABLE HOUSING. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SHELTER NO LONGER PROVIDES SERVICES FOR THOSE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS, MAKING UKIAHS SHELTER LESS COMPETITIVE IN COMPETING FOR A SHRINKING POT OF FEDERAL DOLLARS.

TRAFFIC STOP TURNS INTO LARGE MARIJUANA BUST (LAW) JH 10/30/13

A TRAFFIC STOP IN LAKE COUNTY MONDAY RESULTED IN SEIZURE OF OVER 100 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, A GUN AND TWO ARRESTS.

A SHERIFFS DEPUTY PULLED OVER A VEHICLE FOR MULTIPLE VIOLATIONS AT ABOUT 4:30 PM ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR PUTAH LANE. THE DEPUTY SMELLED MARIJUANA AS HE APPROACHED THE VEHICLE, AND A SEARCH REVEALED NEAR 113 POUNDS OF POT AND A .38 CALIBER HANDGUN. 25 YEAR OLD HORACIO SIERRA CAMPOS AND SANDRA RIVERA-SIERRA, BOTH OF SANTA ROSA, WERE BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO DISCUSS BUILDING CODE AND POLICE RESOURCES (GOV) JH 10/30/13

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL WILL HOLD A SPECIAL MEETING TONIGHT TO DISCUSS STRATEGIC PLANNING AND THE ONGOING DEMANDS ON THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

ACCORDING TO THE CITY MANAGER, THE MEETING WILL BE AN INFORMAL, WIDE RANGING DISCUSSION ON TWO TOPICS: CREATING A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CODE AND PUBLIC SAFETY RESOURCES. BECAUSE TONIGHTS MEETING IS A STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION, DECISIONS WONT BE MADE, BUT IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR AN OPEN AND FRANK DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, AND WHAT THE SOLUTION MIGHT BE. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR 6 PM AT THE UKIAH VALLEY CONFERENCE CENTER ON SCHOOL STREET.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY OPERATION BUSTED IN FORTUNA (LAW) JH 10/30/13

POLICE IN FORTUNA BUSTED A GROUP OF THREE PEOPLE MANUFACTURING COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY.

AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PASSING OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY AT A HANDFUL OF FORTUNA BUSINESSES WAS AIDED BY THE UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE, AND JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT MONDAY, POLICE SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT AT A RESIDENCE ON ROHNERVILLE ROAD. 22 YEAR OLD JEREMY HERMAN, 19 YEAR OLD BRITTANY WALTRIP, AND 48 YEAR OLD KIM HUSE, ALL OF FORTUNA WERE ARRESTED, AND AUTHORITIES SEIZED ABOUT $2,000 IN FAKE $100 AND $20 BILLS, AS WELL AS PRINTERS, A COMPUTER AND OTHER EQUIPMENT USED TO MANUFACTURE THE COUNTERFEIT MONEY. THE SECRET SERVICE IS STILL REVIEWING THE CASE AND MAY PROSECUTE ALL THREE SUSPECTS IN FEDERAL COURT.
