TWO ARRESTED IN CLEARLAKE ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES (LAW)

A TRAFFIC STOP IN CLEARLAKE TURNED INTO A DRUG BUST IN WHICH TWO ARRESTS WERE MADE AND DRUGS AND WEAPONS SEIZED.

CLEARLAKE POLICE CONDUCTED A TRAFFIC STOP ON 38 YEAR OLD RONALD COOK SUNDAY AFTERNOON. COOK WAS FOUND TO BE DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE AND WAS CITED AND HIS VEHICLE IMPOUNDED. DURING A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, OFFICERS FOUND MARIJUANA AND OTHER ITEMS ASSOCIATED WITH DRUG SALES. AUTHORITIES THEN SEARCHED COOKS RESIDENCE AND FOUND A QUARTER POUND OF METHAMPHETAMINE, OVER 9 POUNDS OF PROCESSED POT, A .40 CALIBER HANDGUN, AND MORE THAN $7,000 IN CASH. COOK AND 60 YEAR OLD VIRGINIA CINOLLO WERE BOTH BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

STATE VEHICLE REGISTRATION TO INCLUDE QUAGGA MUSSEL FEE (GOV)

DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE FROM CONCERNED CITIZENS REGARDING INVASIVE MUSSEL INFESTATIONS IN CALIFORNIAS BODIES OF WATER, BOAT OWNERS WILL NOW SEE AN ADDITIONAL FEE ON THEIR CALIFORNIA DMV VESSEL REGISTRATION.

THE FEE IS THE RESULT OF AB2443 THAT WAS SIGNED INTO LAW BY GOVERNOR BROWN IN 2012, AND THE MONEY WILL HELP MAKE GRANTS AVAILABLE TO LOCAL AGENCIES TO FUND QUAGGA AND ZEBRA MUSSEL PREVENTION PLANS. BOAT OWNERS WANTING TO USE CLEAR LAKE, WILL ALSO STILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN LAKE COUNTYS MUSSEL PREVENTION PLAN, BY PURCHASING A LAKE COUNTY QUAGGA MUSSEL STICKER, AS THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT STATE FUNDS WILL BE AWARDED TO LAKE COUNTY. 2014 MUSSEL STICKERS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN LATE DECEMBER OF THIS YEAR.

CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER NEW OFFICERS FOR UPD (GOV/LAW)

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS AT TONIGHTS MEETING THE POSSIBILITY OF INCREASING STAFF FOR THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT.

ACCORDING TO THE POLICE CHIEF, THE FORCE IS SHORT STAFFED DUE TO OFFICERS LEAVING FOR OTHER AGENCIES AND SEVERAL ON MEDICAL LEAVE. THE CITYS BUDGET COVERS FUNDING FOR 28 OFFICERS, THOUGH OFFICIALS SAY THAT 32 IS THE IDEAL NUMBER NEEDED TO ADEQUATELY STAFF THE DEPARTMENT. THE STAFF REPORT FOR TONIGHTS MEETING INDICATED THAT REACHING THE GOAL OF 32 OFFICERS IS NOT POSSIBLE DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, BUT ALLOWING THE HIRING PROCESS TO BEGIN WOULD MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO REACH THEIR GOAL IN THE FUTURE. THE MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT AT 6 PM IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON SEMINARY AVENUE.

MENDO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT SHUFFLES JUDGES (GOV/LAW)

MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT PRESIDING JUDGE DAVID NELSON RECENTLY SHUFFLED THE JUDGES AND ANNOUNCED THE JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2014.

JUDICIAL ASSIGNMENTS ARE REVIEWED EVERY TWO YEARS AND NEW ASSIGNMENTS ARE MADE AS APPROPRIATE. FOR THE NEW YEAR, MANY JUDGES ASSIGNMENTS DID NOT CHANGE, HOWEVER, FORMER PRESIDING JUDGE RICHARD HENDERSON WILL MOVE TO DEPARTMENT E WHERE HE WILL PRESIDE OVER THE CIVIL DEPARTMENT. JUDGE CINDY MAYFIELD MILL MOVE TO DEPARTMENT F AND WILL PRESIDE OVER THE JUVENILE DIVISION. AND JUDGE NELSON WILL MOVE TO DEPARTMENT H TO HEAR THE MASTER CRIMINAL CALENDAR WHERE ALL CRIMINAL CASES START BEFORE BEING REFERRED TO THE TWO TRIAL DEPARTMENTS. ALL OTHER JUDGES WILL REMAIN IN THEIR CURRENT DEPARTMENTS.

PARENT COMPANY OF TWO LAKE COUNTY MARKETS FILES CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY (PI) JH 11/20/13

THE PARENT COMPANY OF TWO LAKE COUNTY SUPERMARKETS AND ONE IN WILLITS HAS FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY, AND WILL BE REORGANIZING THE COMPANY.

C & K MARKETS INC, BASED IN BROOKINGS OREGON, OWNS RAYS FOOD PLACE IN CLEARLAKE, BRUNOS SHOP SMART IN LAKEPORT, AND LOBUCKS IN WILLITS. ACCORDING TO THE COMPANY, THEY PLANS ON SELLING OR CLOSING ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF THEIR STORES, HOWEVER, BOTH LAKE COUNTY MARKETS WILL REMAIN OPEN AND WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE BANKRUPTCY PROCESS. THE WILLITS LOBUCKS STORE IS ON THE LIST OF STORES TO CLOSE OR BE SOLD.

GUERNEVILLE MAN SHOT DEAD BY SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES (LAW) JH 11/20/13

A GUERNEVILLE MAN WAS SHOT TO DEATH DURING A STANDOFF WITH SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES EARLY TUESDAY.

58 YEAR OLD WAYNE COURTRIGHT AND HIS WIFE MANAGE THE RIVERLANE RESORT IN GUERNEVILLE, AND COURTRIGHTS WIFE CALLED AUTHORITIES MONDAY NIGHT JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT ACCUSING HER HUSBAND OF BEING DRUNK, SUICIDAL AND ARMED WITH A RIFLE WHEN HE THREATENED TO KILL HER. SHE WAS INSTRUCTED TO LEAVE THE LOCATION IMMEDIATELY AND DID SO WITH HER DAUGHTER. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, WHEN THEY ARRIVED, THEY HEARD SEVERAL GUNSHOTS INSIDE THE HOUSE. SWAT WAS CALLED AND THE HOME WAS SURROUNDED WHEN COURTRIGHT EMERGED AND BEGAN FIRING AT DEPUTIES. COURTRIGHT WAS SHOT SEVERAL TIMES AND DIED AT THE SCENE.

ROAD WORK THIS WEEK (TR) JH 11/20/13

THERE ARE NUMEROUS ROAD WORK PROJECTS CAUSING TRAFFIC DELAYS AROUND LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES CURRENTLY.

PG&E WILL BE TRIMMING TREES ON HIGHWAY 128 FROM JUST EAST OF MONTE BLOYD ROAD TO JUST WEST OF PHILO. THE WORK WILL BE ONGOING FROM 7 AM TO 4 PM WEEKDAYS.

UTILITY REPAIRS WILL BE DONE ON HIGHWAY 175 FROM THE COBB POST OFFICE TO ANDERSON SPRINGS ROAD. THE WORK IS ONGOING FROM 9 AM TO 4 PM WEEKDAYS.

AT BOTH LOCATIONS, ONE-WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 5 TO 10 MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.
