TWO FOUND DEAD IN LAYTONVILLE (LAW) JH 05/13/14

TWO PEOPLE WERE FOUND DEAD IN LAYTONVILLE MONDAY MORNING.

AN UNIDENTIFIED INDIVIDUAL CONTACTED AUTHORITIES AFTER FINDING THE BODIES. SHERIFFS DEPUTIES WERE ESCORTED TO A RESIDENCE ON WOODMAN PEAK WHERE THE BODIES WERE LOCATED. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE BODIES APPEAR TO BE THE VICTIMS OF HOMICIDE. AN INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.

CAR CRASH LEAVES ONE DEAD, ONE ARRESTED FOR DUI (LAW)

A CAR CRASH SUNDAY EVENING LEFT ONE DEAD AND THE DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DUI.

29-YEAR-OLD DOUGLAS LEE MAGRUDER WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND IN THE LOCH LOMOND AREA WHEN FOR UNKNOWN REASON HE WAS UNABLE TO NEGOTIATE A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND HIT A PINE TREE. MAGRUDER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES, AND HIS PASSENGER, 29 YEAR OLD AMBER NICOLE STOGNER SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES. ACCORDING TO CHP, ALCOHOL IS BELIEVED TO BE A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT, AND MAGRUDER WAS BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL FOR DUI.. ANYONE WHO WITNESSED THE CRASH OR HAS ANY INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST THE INVESTIGATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT CHP IN CLEARLAKE AT 279-0103.

MARIJUANA PACKAGING AND SHIPPING OPERATION FOUND IN MOTEL ROOM (LAW) JH 05/13/14

TWO CATS THAT APPEARED TO BE ABANDONED IN A MOTEL ROOM, LED AUTHORITIES TO FIND A MARIJUANA PACKAGING AND SHIPPING OPERATION.

THE MOTEL MANAGER NOTICED THE CATS IN A WINDOW SEAL THAT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED, AND CONTACTED ANIMAL CONTROL. WHEN THEY ENTERED THE ROOM, A LARGE AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA WAS OBSERVED AND POLICE WERE SUMMONED. A TOTAL OF 14 POUND OF POT WAS LOCATED PACKAGED AND READY TO SHIP, APPROXIMATELY 646 GRAMS ON CONCENTRATED POT, OVER 32 GRAMS OF COCAINE, A NUMEROUS PACKAGING AND SHIPPING SUPPLIES. THERE WAS ALSO EVIDENCE THAT CHILDREN WERE STAYING IN THE ROOM WHILE THE DRUG PROCESSING WAS TAKING PLACE. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE IDENTITY OF THE PERSONS BELIEVED TO BE RESPONSIBLE IS ONGOING, AND THE CASE IS BEING FORWARDED TO THE LAKE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE.

SEARCH WARRANTS RESULT IN SEIZURE OF A LARGE AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA (LAW) JH 05/13/14

THE SERVICE OF TWO SEARCH WARRANTS IN LAKE COUNTY RESULTED IN THE SEIZURE OF SEVERAL THOUSAND MARIJUANA PLANTS AND TWO ARRESTS.

AUTHORITIES SERVED THE WARRANTS AT TWO PROPERTIES ON RIATA ROAD IN LOWER LAKE FRIDAY MORNING. DETECTIVES WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE ANYBODY, BUT DID FIND AND SEIZE A TOTAL OF 3,277 MARIJUANA PLANTS, 2 POUNDS OF PROCESSED POT, TWO FIREARMS AND PROCESSING MATERIALS. JUST PRIOR TO DEPARTING THE LOCATION, DETECTIVES NOTICED A VEHICLE APPROACHING THE PROPERTY, AND A BEER WAS NOTICED BETWEEN THE DRIVERS LEGS. THE TWO OCCUPANTS, 30-YEAR-OLD NESTOR RODRIGUEZ-GONZALEZ AND 25 YEAR OLD MIGUEL ANGEL VARGAS, BOTH OF LOWER LAKE WERE DETAINED. DETECTIVES LOCATED EVIDENCE TO LINK BOTH RODRIGUEZ AND VARGAS TO THE GROW SITES AND BOTH WERE BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

LAKE COUNTY CORRECTIONS OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (LAW) JH 05/13/14

A LAKE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL OFFICER WAS ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LAST WEEK.

35 YEAR OLD YVETTE ESTELLE PADILLA WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FRIDAY MORNING AFTER THE 24 YEAR OLD WOMAN SHE LIVES WITH TOLD POLICE THAT AN ARGUMENT BETWEEN THE TWO ESCALATED INTO A PHYSICAL ALTERCATION. PADILLA ALLEGEDLY KICKED IN A DOOR AND DRAGGED THE VICTIM BY THE HAIR AND SLAMMED HER HEAD AGAINST THE FLOOR REPEATEDLY. PADILLA WAS BOOKED INTO LAKE COUNTY JAIL ON A MISDEMEANOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGE.

SUSPECTS CHARGED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES FOR HONEY OIL LAB (LAW) JH 05/13/14

A LAKE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR A HONEY OIL LAB HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES RELATED TO MARIJUANA AND DRUG CRIMES.

JOHN JOSEPH DARNELL PLEAD GUILTY TO MANUFACTURING A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, A VIOLATION OF HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE AND UNLAWFUL TREATMENT OR STORAGE OF HAZARDOUS WASTE, BOTH FELONIES. DARNEL AND HIS CO-DEFENDANTS PAIGE POLLEY AND CHARLES KNIPP WERE ARRESTED AFTER THEIR HONEY OIL LAB EXPLODED IN APRIL, CAUSING A DANGEROUS FIRE. DARNELL IS DUE BACK IN COURT ON JUNE 2ND FOR SENTENCING.

WILDLIFE CHECKPOINT THIS WEEKEND (LAW) JH 05/13/14

THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE WILL BE CONDUCTING A WILDLIFE CHECKPOINT OPERATION THIS WEEKEND TO PROTECT LOCAL WILDLIFE.

THE WILDLIFE CHECKPOINT IS BEING CONDUCTED TO PROTECT AND CONSERVE FISH AND WILDLIFE, AND TO ENCOURAGE SAFETY AND SPORTSMANSHIP BY PROMOTING VOLUNTARY COMPLIANCE WITH LAWS, RULES AND REGULATIONS THROUGH EDUCATION, PREVENTATIVE PATROL AND ENFORCEMENT. THE INSPECTION WILL BE ON HIGHWAY 1 SOUTH OF FORT BRAGG ON SUNDAY, MAY 18 FROM 8 AM TO 1 PM.

ROAD WORK TODAY (TR) JH 05/013/14

THERE ARE SEVERAL ROAD WORK PROJECTS THAT ARE CAUSING TRAFFIC DELAYS AROUND LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES CURRENTLY.

UTILITY REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED ON HIGHWAY 20 FROM HARVEY BOULEVARD TO MITCHELL ROAD TODAY. WORKING HOURS ARE 8 AM TO 1 PM.

UTILITY REPAIRS WILL ALSO BE PERFORMED ON HIGHWAY 253 AT ROBINSON CREEK ROAD TODAY. WORKING HOURS ARE 9 AM TO 3 PM.

AT BOTH LOCATIONS, ONE-WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL WILL BE IN EFFECT WITH 5-MINUTE DELAYS ANTICIPATED.
