WILLITS CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES EMERGENCY WATER (GOV) JB 6/12/14

THE WILLITS CITY COUNCIL REVIEWED A DETAILED REPORT REGARDING THE STATUS OF THE EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY PROJECT.

THE TWO MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IS WELL UNDERWAY AND STAFF IS CONTINUING TO SEEK WAYS TO DECREASE THE COST OF THE PROJECT. ADDITIONALLY THE CITY IS APPLYING FOR VARIOUS LOANS AND GRANTS TO FUND THE PROJECT. THE WILLITS WATER PLANT OPERATOR REPORTED THAT THE RESERVOIR WATER SUPPLIES ARE IN DECENT SHAPE DUE TO SOME LATE SPRING RAINFALL.

KELSEYVILLE POT BUST NETS 4630 PLANTS AND CASH (LAW) JB 6/12/14

THE SERVICE OF MULTIPLE SEARCH WARRANTS IN LAKE COUNTY RESULTS IN THE SEIZURE OF 4630 MARIJUANA PLANTS AND OVER $50,000 IN CASH.

NARCOTICS OFFICERS SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT AT AN ADDRESS ON GROSS ROAD IN KELSEYVILLE, DETAINING 57 YEAR OLD BOBBY REX GOFORTH OF CLEARLAKE OAKS AND JOY ALICE EMRY OF LAKEPORT. GOFORTH TOLD DETECTIVES HE HAD APPROXIMATELY 300 PLANTS ON HIS PROPERTY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY DETECTIVES DISCOVERED GROWS AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS RUN BY GOFORTH AND EMRY, YIELDING 4630 PLANTS, MULTIPLE FIREARMS, 7 POUNDS OF HONEY OIL, A BUTANE HASH LAB, AND OVER $50,000 CASH. GOFORTH WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND DETECTIVES EXPECT ADDITIONAL ARRESTS AS THEIR INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

TWO INJURED IN HIGHWAY 101 CRASH (LAW) JB 6/12/14

A TWO VEHICLE INJURY ACCIDENT ON HWY 101 TUESDAY COULD POSSIBLY BE THE RESULT OF RECKLESS DRIVING.

TWO MEN DRIVING NORTH ON HIGHWAY 101 JUST PASS THE POMO LANE UNDERCROSSING WERE SIDESWIPED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO PASS THEM, CAUSING BOTH VEHICLES TO LOSE CONTROL. THE COLLISION CAUSED THE TOYOTA 4RUNNER THE MEN WERE DRIVING TO ROLL SIDEWAYS AND THE NISSAN 300ZX DRIVEN BY 22 YEAR OLD, GABRIELA GALLEGOS TO CROSS THE CENTER MEDIAN AND STOP IN A DRAINAGE DITCH. WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING GALLEGOS DRIVING RECKLESSLY BEFORE THE CRASH. THE TWO MEN WERE TAKEN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH MAJOR INJURIES. GALLEGOS WAS UNINJURED IN THE CRASH.

MEDIACOM AWARDS SCHOLARSHIP TO KELSEYVILLE GRAD (ED) JB 6/12/14

A 2014 GRADUATE OF KELSEYVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BEEN AWARDED A $1000 SCHOLARSHIP FROM CABLE GIANT, MEDIACOM.

THE SCHOLARSHIP, PART OF MEDIACOM COMMUNICATIONS WORLD CLASS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WAS AWARDED TO NEWLY GRADUATED STUDENT, KYLE SCHMIDT. HE WAS CHOSEN FROM A GROUP OF OVER 1500 STUDENTS WHO APPLIED FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS. MEDIACOM HAS FUNDED THIS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS, CHOOSING STUDENTS LIVING IN AREAS SERVED BY THE COMPANY AND REQUIRING THAT THEY ATTEND ACCREDITED COLLEGES OR TECHNICAL SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES.

INMATE DIES IN CUSTODY AT COUNTY JAIL (LAW) JB 6/12/14

AN IN CUSTODY DEATH OF AN INMATE OCCURRED AT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

CORRECTIONAL STAFF AT THE JAIL ASSIGNED TO WORK BUILDING ONE OF THE ADULT DETENTION FACILITY ENTERED THE CELL OF AN UNRESPONSIVE MALE INMATE YESTERDAY AT AROUND 5AM. DEPUTIES FOUND THE 55 YEAR OLD MAN UNCONSCIOUS, NOT BREATHING, AND WITH NO PULSE. EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE SUMMONED AND THE MAN WAS TRANSPORTED AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT AN AREA HOSPITAL. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH IS BEING CONDUCTED AND THE HIS NAME WILL BE RELEASED AFTER NOTIFICATION TO HIS NEXT OF KIN.

GROCERY OUTLET TO OPEN IN WILLITS (PI) JB 6/12/14

DISCOUNT FOOD CHAIN, GROCERY OUTLET, EXPECTS TO OPEN A NEW LOCATION IN WILLITS IN THE FALL.

THE NATIONWIDE GROCERY DISCOUNT MARKET HAS SIGNED A LEASE AT THE OLD RAYS FOOD PLACE LOCATION IN THE EVERGREEN SHOPPING CENTER IN WILLITS AND THE CITY HAS ISSUED A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THE SITE. CONCERNS AS TO WHETHER GROCERY OUTLET COULD OBTAIN A LIQUOR LICENSE FOR THE LOCATION WERE PUT TO REST WHEN THE COMPANY WAS ABLE TO ACQUIRE AN EXISTING LICENSE. THE ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL DEPARTMENT IS NOT ISSUING NEW LICENSES CURRENTLY IN MENDOCINO COUNTY. GROCERY OUTLET IS HOPING TO OPEN THE NEW LOCATION BY OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR.

SCHOOL DISTRICT AND TEACHERS REACH AGREEMENT (ED) JB 6/12/14

A TENTATIVE CONTRACT AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED BETWEEN THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND UKIAH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION HAD COME TO A HALT LAST MONTH BECAUSE OF A DISAGREEMENT ON ONE-TIME FURLOUGH REIMBURSEMENT. THE NEW CONTRACT AGREEMENT, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN RATIFIED, WAS REACHED ON MONDAY WITH THE HELP OF A MEDIATOR. THE NEW AGREEMENT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE DISTRICTS BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEXT WEEK IF IT IS RATIFIED BY THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

UKIAH WATER USE DOWN THIS YEAR (PI/GOV) JB 6/12/14

UKIAH RESIDENTS ARE SHOWING IMPRESSIVE WATER CONSERVATION EFFORTS THIS YEAR.

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT REVIEWED THE CITYS WATER USAGE AMOUNTS AT THE COUNCILS LAST MEETING AND THE RESULTS ARE ENCOURAGING. CURRENTLY THE CITY IS USING AN AVERAGE OF 3.1 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER A DAY WITH THAT NUMBER JUMPING UP TO 3.7 MILLION GALLONS THIS PAST WEEKEND DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT. THOSE TOTALS ARE ABOUT 25 PERCENT LESS THAN WHAT WAS EXPECTED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER TO CONSERVE WATER THIS YEAR WHEREVER POSSIBLE.
