FIRE HYDRANT PARTS STOLEN LEAD TO ARREST (LAW) JB 6/25/14

A REPORT OF A THEFT OF FIRE HYDRANT PARTS IN UKIAH LEADS TO AN ARREST BY MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS.

THE THEFT OF COPPER FITTINGS ASSOCIATED WITH FIRE HYDRANTS WAS REPORTED BY NOR CAL WOOD PRODUCTS OF UKIAH AND A DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT AND HIS VEHICLE WAS PROVIDED BY WITNESSES. A PERSON MATCHING THE DESCRIPTION TURNED IN HYDRANT FITTINGS AT A RECYCLING CENTER IN UKIAH AND DEPUTIES WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE IDENTITY OF THE SUSPECT FROM PAPERWORK HE FILLED OUT AT THE CENTER. 39 YEAR OLD RYAN CAMPBELL WAS LOCATED ON TALMAGE ROAD AND ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND A SEARCH OF HIS VEHICLE TURNED UP ADDITIONAL HYDRANT PARTS BELONGING TO THE CITY OF UKIAH AND THE HOPLAND UTILITY DISTRICT.

BUOYS PLACED ON CLEAR LAKE TO MARK SHALLOW WATER (PI) JB 6/25/14

IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP BOATERS SAFE ON CLEAR LAKE, MARKER BUOYS HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE LAKE MARKING SHALLOW WATER AREAS.

THE LOW WATER LEVEL IN CLEAR LAKE PROMPTED THE PLACEMENT OF THE BUOYS IN ORDER FOR BOATERS TO AVOID PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN HAZARDS. THE BUOYS ARE LOCATED NEAR THE SHORE OF RODMAN SLOUGH BUT ALL BOATERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF TREES, SNAGS, SANDBARS, AND OTHER HAZARDS IN ALL PARTS OF THE LAKE. AREAS OF THE LAKE THAT HAVE BEEN EASILY NAVIGATED IN YEARS PAST COULD BE DANGEROUS THIS YEAR DUE TO LOWER WATER LEVELS.

MARYLAND WOMAN HIT HOPLAND (LAW) JB 6/25/14

AN ELDERLY WOMAN IN HOPLAND WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE OVER THE WEEKEND.

THE 83 YEAR OLD MARYLAND RESIDENT WAS ATTEMPTING TO CROSS TO THE EAST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 101 AT CENTER STREET. SHE SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY A 2003 OLDSMOBILE DRIVEN BY A 56 YEAR OLD CLEARLAKE WOMAN. THE VICTIM WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER WAS NOT ARRESTED, THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

UKIAH MAN ARRESTED ON SEX ABUSE CHARGES (LAW) JB 6/25/14

A UKIAH TRANSIENT WAS ARRAIGNED TUESDAY ON MULTIPLE SEX ABUSE CHARGES.

41 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY SCOTT BUCKWAY WAS ORIGINALLY ARRESTED ON MAY 23 ON SUSPICION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FOR REPORTEDLY STRIKING HIS WIFE IN THE PARKING LOT OF WALMART IN UKIAH. THE FIGHT ALLEGEDLY STARTED WHEN THREE OF BUCKWAYS FOUR DAUGHTERS TOLD THERE MOTHER HE HAD STRUCK THEM WITH A METAL POLE EARLIER. AN EXTENSIVE POLICE INVESTIGATION OF MORE THAN 100 HOURS CULMINATED IN BUCKWAY BEING CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE FELONIES INCLUDING SEXUAL ACTS WITH A MINOR HE IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL ON $1.7 MILLION DOLLARS BAIL.

KONOCTI WATER DISTRICT TO DECLARE EMERGENCY (GOV)/PI) JB 6/25/14

THE KONOCTI COUNTY WATER DISTRICT IS PREPARING TO IMPLEMENT A DISTRICT WIDE STATE OF EMERGENCY AND MANDATORY WATER RATIONING.

THE EMERGENCY MEASURES ARE THE RESULT OF THE CURRENT DROUGHT CONDITIONS ON CLEAR LAKE, AS THE LAKE HAS DIPPED TO THE ONE OF THE LOWEST LEVELS IN THE PAST 30 YEARS. THE KONOCTI COUNTY WATER DISTRICT WILL HOST A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY WITH COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH AND EMERGENCY SERVICES TO DISCUSS THE EMERGENCY DECLARATION. FIRE ALONG THE RUSSIAN RIVER SOUTH OF HOPLAND (LAW) JB 6/25/14

A GRASS FIRE THAT BROKE OUT SOUTH OF HOPLAND OVER THE WEEKEND WAS LIKELY THE RESULT OF CARELESS CAMPERS.

CAL FIRE, AS WELL AS BOTH THE HOPLAND AND CLOVERDALE FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO THE BLAZE ON SUNDAY MORNING NEAR COMMINSKY STATION ROAD ALONG THE RUSSIAN RIVER. ACCORDING TO EVIDENCE FOUND AT THE SCENE, IT WAS LIKELY THE RESULT OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT WERE CAMPING NEAR THE RIVER. THE FIRE DID NOT THREATEN ANY STRUCTURES AND WAS CONTAINED WITH A QUICK RESPONSE FROM FIRE AGENCIES TO LESS THAN TWO ACRES.

CITY OF UKIAH BEGINS BUDGET TALKS (GOV) JB 6/25/14

THE CITY OF UKIAH BEGAN BUDGET TALKS THIS WEEK WITH THE FOCUS STRONGLY ON DOING MORE WITH LESS.

THE BUDGET HEARINGS, WHICH BEGAN MONDAY, FEATURED PRESENTATIONS BY MULTIPLE CITY FACTIONS INCLUDING THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT. THE REDUCTION OF EXPENDITURES BY THE CITY CONTINUES TO THE BE THE PRIMARY FOCUS, WITH THE PROPOSED BUDGET 2014-15 HAVING TWENTY FEWER FULL TIME POSITIONS THAN IN 2006, MAKING A TOTAL OF 161 JOBS. ACCORDING TO THE CITY MANAGER, CITY PERSONNEL HAVE AGREED TO FURLOUGH DAYS AND FEWER HOURS TO HELP REDUCE OPERATIONAL COSTS.

NEW CHARTER SCHOOL IN KELSEYVILLE UNIFIED (ED) JB 6/25/14

THE KELSEYVILLE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WELCOMES ITS FIRST CHARTER SCHOOL AND IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ENROLLMENT IN THE FALL.

THE INTERMOUNTAIN STEM ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL OPENS ITS DOORS THIS FALL TO FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE ENROLLMENT AND DISTRICT SAYS THAT THE SCHOOL WILL EVENTUALLY SERVE KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS. LOCATED ON BOTTLE ROCK ROAD IN COBB, THE CHARTER SCHOOL WILL START WITH ONE CLASSROOM AND ONE TEACHER WITH ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS AND STAFF BEING ADDED IN THE 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR.
