A WARRANT SEARCH BY LAKE COUNTY NARCOTICS DETECTIVES YIELDS OVER 500 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA AND MULTIPLE ARRESTS.

DETECTIVES SERVED THE WARRANT AT AN ADDRESS ON SMITH RANCH ROAD IN KELSEYVILLE WHERE THEY DETAINED 28 YEAR OLD RYAN CHRISTOPHER AGLER AND 30 YEAR OLD JOSEPH PAXTON KESTLER. DURING THE SEARCH OF RESIDENCE, 160 MARIJUANA PLANTS, 520 POUNDS OF PROCESSED POT, AND SMALL AMOUNTS OF METHADONE AND HYDROMORPHONE WERE SEIZED. AGLER AND KESTLER WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE HILL ROAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

UKIAH WOMAN , TODDLER HURT IN CRASH (LAW) JB 6/18/14

A UKIAH WOMAN AND HER ONE YEAR OLD CHILD WERE INJURED IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT NEAR REDWOOD VALLEY MONDAY EVENING.

KATHLEEN ASHFORD AND HER CHILD WERE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR ROAD A WHEN HER 2007 FORD FOCUS DRIFTED OFF THE ROAD, STRIKING A TREE AND THEN CAREENING DOWN THE DIRT EMBANKMENT. BOTH ASHFORD AND THE CHILD SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES IN THE ACCIDENT. ASHFORD WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND THE TODDLER WAS TRANSPORTED TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER.

RODMAN PRESERVE TO HOLD NATURE PROGRAM (EVR) JB 6/18/14

A SUMMER NATURE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN KICKS OF THIS SATURDAY IN UPPER LAKE.

THE LAKE COUNTY LAND TRUSTS RODMAN PRESERVE WILL PLAY HOST TO THE CHILDRENS NATURE EDUCATION PROGRAM LED BY ELAINE MANSELL, A LOCAL NATURALIST AND EDUCATOR. COMMUNITIES ALL OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ARE BEING MADE AWARE OF A NEW TELEPHONE SCAM FROM PEOPLE CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE IRS.

CONGRESSMAN JARED HUFFMANS OFFICE SENT OUT AN ALERT TO THE WILLITS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RECENTLY IN REGARDS TO THE FAKE IRS PHONE CALLS. SCAMMERS PRETENDING TO BE IRS OR TREASURY AGENTS CALL AND CLAIM THAT THE VICTIMS OWE MONEY. THE IRS HAS RECEIVED NEARLY 20,000 COMPLAINTS THIS YEAR FROM VICTIMS WHO HAVE BEEN SWINDLED OUT OF OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS BY THE CON MEN. LAKE COUNTY FIFTH GRADERS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS (ED) JB 6/18/14

TWELVE LAKE COUNTY STUDENTS RECEIVED THE MENDOCINO COLLEGE FOUNDATIONS ADOPT-A-FIFTH GRADER AWARD IN 2014.

THIS ANNUAL PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO MOTIVATE YOUNG STUDENTS TO START THINKING ABOUT GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND ATTENDING MENDOCINO COLLEGE. THIS YEARS RECIPIENTS WILL RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP FOR $1000 WHEN THE STUDENT OBTAINS A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND ENROLLS AS A FULL-TIME STUDENT AT THE COLLEGE. AN ANTI-GANG EDUCATION PROGRAM IN WILLITS HAS COMPLETED ITS SIXTH SUCCESSFUL YEAR REACHING A COMBINED TOTAL OF ALMOST 1000 LOCAL STUDENTS.

THE GRIP, OR GANG RESISTANCE IS PARAMOUNT PROGRAM TAUGHT AT THE BAECHTEL GROVE MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS EDUCATED STUDENTS ON EVERYTHING FROM GANG PREVENTION TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE FOR NEARLY A DECADE. FELONY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN UKIAH (LAW) JB 6/18/14

SHERIFFS DEPUTIES RESPOND TO THE REPORT OF A WOMAN BEING CHASED BY A MAN DOWN TALMAGE ROAD IN UKIAH.

DEPUTIES FOUND THE WOMAN AT A BUSINESS LOCATED AT THE INTERSECTION OF TALMAGE AND HASTINGS ROADS. SHE APPEARED DISTRESSED AND HAD ABRASIONS ON HER ARMS AND LEGS, AND CLAIMED THAT HER BOYFRIEND HAD PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED HER. 34 YEAR OLD RANDY MCCORMICK-BLAKE HAD ALLEGEDLY CHOKED THE 23 YEAR OLD VICTIM AND SLAMMED HER FACE INTO THE GROUND SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE CHASING HER DOWN TALMAGE ROAD AND ATTEMPTING TO DRAG HER INTO A NEARBY VINEYARD. DEPUTIES LOCATED MCCORMICK-BLAKE AND HE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

KNIFE ATTACK IN FT BRAGG DOMESTIC DISPUTE (LAW) JB 06/18/14

A FT BRAGG WOMAN ATTEMPTED TO STAB HER BOYFRIEND DURING A DOMESTIC DISPUTE OVER THE WEEKEND.

SHERIFFS DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO A RESIDENCE ON PEARL DRIVE IN FT BRAGG AND LEARNED THAT 50 YEAR OLD SUSAN BROWN HAD BEEN STRUCK IN THE HEAD BY HER 51 YEAR OLD BOYFRIEND. BROWN ALLEGEDLY GRABBED A POCKET KNIFE AND ATTEMPTED TO STAB THE MAN REPEATEDLY. BROWN WAS DETERMINED TO BE INTOXICATED AND THE PRIMARY AGGRESSOR OF THE DISPUTE AND SHE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FT BRAGG POLICE ARE ASKING FOR THE PUBLICS HELP IN RECOVERING APPROXIMATELY $4000 WORTH OF MERCHANDISE STOLEN LAST WEEK FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS.

OFFICERS DISPATCHED TO ZAPATERIA LA MEXICANA IN FT BRAGG DISCOVERED THAT THE SUSPECT HAD SCALED A HISTORY EXHIBIT AND OVER AN INTERIOR WALL TO GAIN ENTRANCE TO THE BUSINESS. GJ FINDS COUNTY MAY OWE LIBRARY $1.2 MILLION (GOV) JB 6/17/14

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY GRAND JURY RELEASED A REPORT RECENTLY SHOWING THAT THE COUNTY MAY OWE ITS LIBRARY IN EXCESS OF $1.2 MILLION DOLLARS DUE TO IMPROPER SALARY PAYMENTS.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY FREE LIBRARY REPORT SHOWS THAT THE BETWEEN 1998 AND 2013 THE COUNTY LIBRARIANS SALARY WAS PAID OUT OF THE LIBRARYS BUDGET INSTEAD OF THE COUNTYS GENERAL FUND. THE REPORT STATED THAT HISTORICALLY, THE GENERAL FUND HAS NOT PAID THE COUNTY LIBRARIANS SALARY AND BENEFITS AS REQUIRED BY LAW. ACCORDING TO COUNTY BOOKS, ALL LIBRARY EXPENSES ARE PAID BY THE GENERAL FUND, WHEN IN FACT, MANY OF THESE EXPENDITURES ARE PAID BY DEDICATED REVENUE.

ASSAULT ARREST IN FT BRAGG (LAW) JB 6/17/14

A MAN WHO ASSAULTED THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILD WAS ARRESTED BY FT BRAGG POLICE.

OFFICERS DISPATCHED TO AN ADDRESS ON SOUTH HARRISON STREET IN FT BRAGG CONTACTED THE VICTIM AND LEARNED THAT 37 YEAR OLD GREGORY DAVID MORGAN HAD ASSAULTED THE WOMAN, THEN FLED SCENE. MORGAN HAD CHOKED THE VICTIM DURING A VERBAL ARGUMENT, LEAVING VISIBLE INJURIES TO HER NECK. OFFICERS LATER LOCATED MORGAN AND HE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED ON FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES.

$376,000 GRANT FOR MENDO-LAKE COLLEGE (GOV/ED) JB 6/17/14

A U.S. EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GRANT OF OVER $376,000 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED BY CONGRESSMAN MIKE THOMPSON FOR MENDOCINO-LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENTS CAMP PROGRAM, OR COLLEGE ASSISTANCE MIGRANT PROGRAM, IS THE SOURCE OF THE GRANT DESIGNED TO SUPPORT COMPLETION OF THE FIRST YEAR OF STUDIES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE MIGRATORY OR SEASONAL FARM WORKERS. CHILDREN OF MIGRATORY WORKERS WHO ARE STUDENTS WOULD ALSO BENEFIT FROM THE GRANT PROGRAM, WHICH SERVES APPROXIMATELY 2000 STUDENTS ANNUALLY.

TWO PEOPLE WERE TRANSPORTED TO AREA HOSPITALS AFTER A HEAD ON COLLISION ON BOTTLE ROCK ROAD LAST WEEK.

CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL REPORTED THAT 33 YEAR OLD LEAH JACKMAN OF LAKEPORT LET HER 1999 FORD EXPEDITION DRIFT OVER THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE AND INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. SHE COLLIDED WITH A 2001 SUBARU FORESTER DRIVEN BY 32 YEAR OLD CAMERON MCLEAN OF LAKEPORT. MCLEAN SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES IN THE ACCIDENT AND WAS TAKEN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL BY HELICOPTER. JACKMAN WAS TAKEN TO SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES AND THE COLLISION IS UNDER INVESTIGATION

A VEHICLE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 29 LAST WEEK LOST CONTROL AND FLIPPED OVER THE GUARD RAIL NORTH OF LAKEPORT.

THE GRAY DODGE NEON SWERVED INTO THE MEDIAN AND ACROSS SOUTHBOUND LANES, NARROWLY MISSING ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. THE CAR HIT THE GUARD RAIL AND FLIPPED OVER IT, LANDING ABOUT 20 FEET BELOW HIGHWAY 29. CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL REPORTED THAT THREE YOUNG MALE ADULTS IN THE CAR HAD FLED THE SCENE, BUT WERE APPREHENDED LATER AND THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

MAN JUMPS FROM NOYO BRIDGE (LAW) JB 6/17/14

FT BRAGG POLICE RECEIVED NUMEROUS 911 CALLS THAT A MAN HAD JUMPED OFF THE NOYO BRIDGE AND WAS SWIMMING TO THE NORTH BANK OF THE RIVER BELOW.

WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED, THEY FOUND THE SUBJECT, KEENAN COCHRAN AT THE CIRCLE K GAS STATION. WITNESSES ON SCENE CONFIRMED THAT COCHRAN HAD WALKED TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BRIDGE, CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF THE RAILING, AND JUMPED FROM THE BRIDGE INTO THE NOYO RIVER. COCHRAN DENIED JUMPING FROM THE BRIDGE, STATING THAT HE WAS JUST SWIMMING IN THE RIVER. HE WAS TAKEN TO MENDOCINO COAST DISTRICT HOSPITAL FOR EVALUATION AND LATER RELEASED.

CALTRANS ANNOUNCES ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENT (TR) JB 6/16/14

CALTRANS HAS ANNOUNCED AN AGREEMENT ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE WILLITS BYPASS PROJECT.

CALTRANS ESTIMATED THAT THE FIRST PHASE OF THE FREEWAY WILL COST $210 MILLION DOLLARS. THE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE FROM THE CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN ALLOCATED A $54 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS. THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME AND THE REGIONAL WATER BOARD HAVE NOW AGREED ON A PLAN AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS WILL BE TOURING THE SITE SOON TO SEE IF CALTRANS IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THEIR REQUIREMENTS.

THE DAILY WATER RATION FOR BROOKTRAILS RESIDENTS HAS BEEN INCREASED TO 200 GALLONS PER DAY.

THE BROOKTRAILS DISTRICT BOARD VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO INCREASE THE DAILY WATER RATION BY 20 GALLONS PER DAY, RAISING IT TO 200 GALLONS. THE NEW ALLOTMENT WORKS OUT TO APPROXIMATELY 6000 GALLONS PER MONTH ON AVERAGE. BROOKTRAILS HAS ENOUGH WATER TO LAST THROUGH LATE JANUARY OR EARLY FEBRUARY, BASED ON THE PRESENT RATE OF USAGE AND THE LEVEL OF WATER RESERVES.

CRESTVIEW FIRE THREATENED HOME (LAW) JB 6/16/14

THE UKIAH VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY RESPONDED TO A FIRE ALONG CRESTVIEW DRIVE THAT THREATENED A HOME ON TOP OF THE HILL.

THE FIRE, FIRST REPORTED AROUND 7:20PM LAST THURSDAY, STARTED NEAR THE ROAD AND MADE ITS WAY UP THE EMBANKMENT. UKIAH VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS POSITIONED THEMSELVES BETWEEN THE FIRE AND HOUSE ON TOP OF THE HILL AS THEY EXTINGUISHED THE BLAZE THAT BURNED LESS THAN AN ACRE. THE FIRE IS CONSIDERED SUSPICIOUS AND THE CAUSE IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION.

THREE NEW POLICE OFFICERS TO START IN UKIAH (LAW) JB 6/16/14

THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT WELCOMES THREE NEW FACES TO THEIR RANKS.

POLICE ACADEMY GRADUATES JASON CHAPMAN, MATT EDWARDS, AND JOHN-PAUL TAMAYO HAVE BEEN HIRED BY THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT. ALL THREE NEW OFFICERS BELIEVE THAT PATIENCE AND A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ARE KEYS TO BEING A GOOD POLICE OFFICER. UKIAH WANTS TO EXTEND MEASURE S (GOV/LAW) JB 6/16/14

THE CITY OF UKIAH IS LOOKING TO RETAIN ITS FUNDING FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES BY ASKING VOTERS TO RENEW MEASURE S.

THE PUBLIC SAFETY MEASURE, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY PASSED IN 2005 HAS PROVIDED FUNDING TO BOTH THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE UKIAH VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY. THE REPLACEMENT OF AGING FIRE EQUIPMENT, AND THE ABILITY TO STAFF 32 POLICE OFFICERS AND 15 FIREFIGHTERS HAVE ALL BEEN FUNDED IN PART BY MEASURE S. THE CURRENT ANNUAL SAFETY BUDGET FOR UKIAH IS APPROXIMATELY $8.6 MILLION DOLLARS WITH $2.4 MILLION DOLLARS BEING GENERATED BY THE MEASURE S SALES TAX.

MENTALLY ILL NOT GETTING HELP IN THE COUNTY (GOV) JB 6/16/14

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY GRANT JURY HAS STATED THAT CRISIS CARE OF THOSE WITH SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESSES IS LACKING IN THE COUNTY.

THE GRAND JURY POINTED OUT A SERIOUS OVERSIGHT IN THE PREPARATION OF A CONTRACT THAT WAS WRITTEN WHEN THE COUNTY PRIVATIZED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. THEIR REPORT STATED THE CLIENTS MOST IN NEED OF MENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANCE WERE SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED FROM THE LANGUAGE OF THE CONTRACT. THE DRAFTING OF A NEW CONTRACT TO INCLUDE PROVISIONS FOR LEVEL 3 PATIENTS WAS RECOMMENDED AS THE JURY FOUND THE COUNTY WAS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE INTENT OF STATE LAW.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY WATER AGENCY AND COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE ASKING RESIDENTS LIVING IN UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF THE COUNTY TO CALL IN TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY DROUGHT HOTLINE IF THEY ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR WATER SUPPLY.

THESE CALLS HAVE PROVEN TO BE AN INVALUABLE SOURCE TO KNOW WHERE PROBLEMS ARE OCCURRING IN THE COUNTY WITH RESIDENTIAL GROUNDWATER. UKIAH MUNICIPAL POOL OPEN FOR THE SUMMER (PI) JB 6/16/14

THE UKIAH MUNICIPAL POOL IS NOW OPEN OFFERING RESIDENTS A GREAT WAY TO GET WET, COOL DOWN, AND ENJOY THE SUMMER.

SWIM LESSONS ARE TAUGHT TO APPROXIMATELY 500-600 PEOPLE EVERY SUMMER AT THE POOL, WITH THAT NUMBER INCREASING EVERY YEAR. THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THAT A NEW WELL WAS NEEDED FOR THE MOUNT HANNAH WATER SYSTEM.

INFORMATION PROVIDED TO THE BOARD BY THE LAKE COUNTY SPECIAL DISTRICTS ADMINISTRATOR STATED THAT THE CURRENT WELL IS FAILING AND THAT THE WATER LEVEL IN THE WELL IS FALLING FASTER THAN IT CAN BE REPLENISHED. A GRANT FROM THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH COVERING THE COST OF DRILLING THE NEW WELL HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THE DISTRICT, HOWEVER ALTERNATE FUNDING NEEDED TO BE EXPEDITED DUE TO THE IMMINENT FAILURE OF THE CURRENT WELL.

MAN PUNCHES HOLES IN WALLS WITH A STICK (LAW) JB 6/13/14

POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDING TO THE REPORT OF AN INTRUDER ARREST A MAN FOR PUNCHING HOLES IN THE WALLS OF A UKIAH HOME WITH STICKS.

OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO A HOME ON EL RIO COURT IN UKIAH AND DETAINED 56 YEAR OLD JOSE FELIX CRUZ AS HE EXITED THE RESIDENCE. CRUZ HAD ENTERED THE RESIDENCE AND BEGAN PUNCHING AND STRIKING THE INTERIOR WALLS WITH STICKS, CAUSING NUMEROUS HOLES. THE RESIDENT OF THE HOME WAS FAMILIAR WITH CRUZ AND DECLINED TO HAVE HIM PROSECUTED FOR THE DAMAGE. CRUZ WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

A WILLITS WOMAN WAS ARRESTED ON WEDNESDAY FOR ATTEMPTING TO REGISTER A STOLEN CAR.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS WERE INFORMED THAT 29 YEAR OLD ASHLEY LAFORGE OF WILLITS WAS ATTEMPTING TO REGISTER A SILVER 1997 ACURA, WHICH WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE BEEN STOLEN FROM ANTIOCH. LAFORGE CLAIMED THAT SHE TRADED HER VEHICLE FOR THE ACURA WAS UNAWARE THE ACURA WAS STOLEN. LAFORGE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL FOR POSSESSING A STOLEN VEHICLE.

AN EARLY MORNING STOP BY UKIAH POLICE OF A MAN WITH TWO BICYCLES YIELDS METHAMPHETAMINE AND STOLEN PROPERTY.

OFFICERS STOPPED 41 YEAR OLD RANDALL LEE GENSAW OF UKIAH AS HE WAS RIDING ONE BICYCLE AND PUSHING ANOTHER ON SOUTH STATE STREET. GENSAW WAS DETERMINED TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND HAD SEVERAL BAGGIES OF METH IN HIS POSSESSION. A SERIAL NUMBER CHECK OF ONE OF THE BICYCLES REVEALED THAT IT HAD BEEN REPORTED STOLEN IN MARCH. GENSAW WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

MOBILE HOMES IN UKIAH SAVED FROM FIRE (LAW) JB 6/13/14

A QUICK RESPONSE BY CAL FIRE TO A BLAZE ALONG THE RAILROAD TRACKS IN UKIAH SPARES A MOBILE HOME COMMUNITY.

THE RANCHO DEL REY MOBILE HOME PARK WAS IN THE DIRECT PATH OF A VEGETATION FIRE YESTERDAY. THE FIRE WAS REPORTED BY A RESIDENT OF THE MOBILE HOME PARK, AS 8 FOOT FLAMES WHIPPED UP BY THE WIND MOVED TOWARDS THE RESIDENCES. CAL FIRE EXTINGUISHED THE BLAZE AS IT REACHED A FENCE BEHIND ONE OF THE TRAILERS, BUT THE HOMES WERE SPARED ANY DAMAGE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

MORE WATER IN RIVER, LESS IN LAKE MENDOCINO (EVR) JB 6/13/14

THE WATER LEVELS IN LAKE MENDOCINO COULD POSSIBLY BE THE LOWEST EVER SEEN BY THE FALL OF THIS YEAR.

THE AMOUNT OF WATER RELEASED AT THE DAM OF LAKE MENDOCINO INTO THE RUSSIAN RIVER HAD BEEN HELD AT A MINIMUM 25 CUBIC FEET PER SECOND. THAT AMOUNT HAS NOW BEEN INCREASED TO A MINIMUM 75 CUBIC FEET PER SECOND FOR THE REST OF THE SUMMER AND THE LAKE IS LOSING ABOUT 200 ACRE-FEET PER DAY OF WATER. THE STATE WATER RESOURCES BOARD DICTATES WHAT THE MINIMUM FLOWS SHOULD BE FROM LAKE MENDOCINO BASED ON RIVER GAUGES IN HOPLAND AND HEALDSBURG.

NARCOTICS OFFICERS SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT AT AN ADDRESS ON GROSS ROAD IN KELSEYVILLE, DETAINING 57 YEAR OLD BOBBY REX GOFORTH OF CLEARLAKE OAKS AND JOY ALICE EMRY OF LAKEPORT. GOFORTH TOLD DETECTIVES HE HAD APPROXIMATELY 300 PLANTS ON HIS PROPERTY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY DETECTIVES DISCOVERED GROWS AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS RUN BY GOFORTH AND EMRY, YIELDING 4630 PLANTS, MULTIPLE FIREARMS, 7 POUNDS OF HONEY OIL, A BUTANE HASH LAB, AND OVER $50,000 CASH. GOFORTH WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND DETECTIVES EXPECT ADDITIONAL ARRESTS AS THEIR INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

TWO INJURED IN HIGHWAY 101 CRASH (LAW) JB 6/12/14

A TWO VEHICLE INJURY ACCIDENT ON HWY 101 TUESDAY COULD POSSIBLY BE THE RESULT OF RECKLESS DRIVING.

TWO MEN DRIVING NORTH ON HIGHWAY 101 JUST PASS THE POMO LANE UNDERCROSSING WERE SIDESWIPED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO PASS THEM, CAUSING BOTH VEHICLES TO LOSE CONTROL. THE COLLISION CAUSED THE TOYOTA 4RUNNER THE MEN WERE DRIVING TO ROLL SIDEWAYS AND THE NISSAN 300ZX DRIVEN BY 22 YEAR OLD, GABRIELA GALLEGOS TO CROSS THE CENTER MEDIAN AND STOP IN A DRAINAGE DITCH. WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING GALLEGOS DRIVING RECKLESSLY BEFORE THE CRASH. THE TWO MEN WERE TAKEN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH MAJOR INJURIES. GALLEGOS WAS UNINJURED IN THE CRASH.

AN IN CUSTODY DEATH OF AN INMATE OCCURRED AT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.

DEPUTIES FOUND THE 55 YEAR OLD MAN UNCONSCIOUS, NOT BREATHING, AND WITH NO PULSE. EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE SUMMONED AND THE MAN WAS TRANSPORTED AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT AN AREA HOSPITAL. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH IS BEING CONDUCTED AND THE HIS NAME WILL BE RELEASED AFTER NOTIFICATION TO HIS NEXT OF KIN.

SCHOOL DISTRICT AND TEACHERS REACH AGREEMENT (ED) JB 6/12/14

A TENTATIVE CONTRACT AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED BETWEEN THE UKIAH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND UKIAH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION HAD COME TO A HALT LAST MONTH BECAUSE OF A DISAGREEMENT ON ONE-TIME FURLOUGH REIMBURSEMENT. THE NEW CONTRACT AGREEMENT, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN RATIFIED, WAS REACHED ON MONDAY WITH THE HELP OF A MEDIATOR. THE NEW AGREEMENT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE DISTRICTS BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEXT WEEK IF IT IS RATIFIED BY THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

UKIAH RESIDENTS ARE SHOWING IMPRESSIVE WATER CONSERVATION EFFORTS THIS YEAR.

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT REVIEWED THE CITYS WATER USAGE AMOUNTS AT THE COUNCILS LAST MEETING AND THE RESULTS ARE ENCOURAGING. CURRENTLY THE CITY IS USING AN AVERAGE OF 3.1 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER A DAY WITH THAT NUMBER JUMPING UP TO 3.7 MILLION GALLONS THIS PAST WEEKEND DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT. THOSE TOTALS ARE ABOUT 25 PERCENT LESS THAN WHAT WAS EXPECTED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER TO CONSERVE WATER THIS YEAR WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

LAKE COUNTY MAN SUSPECTED OF SHOOTING AT KIDS (LAW) JB 6/10/14

TWO 12 YEAR OLD BOYS ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AFTER BEING SHOT AT BY A LAKE COUNTY MAN.

THE BOYS WERE WALKING DOWN A DRIVEWAY THEY SHARED WITH THEIR NEIGHBOR, 56 YEAR OLD SALVADOR ESTRADA OF UPPER LAKE, WHEN ESTRADA CLAIMS HE MISTOOK THEM FOR TRESPASSERS. ESTRADA CLAIMED HE THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO STEAL HIS VEHICLE AND HE FIRED TWO ROUNDS FROM A 9MM HANDGUN IN THE AIR TO SCARE THEM OFF. DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING THE SCENE DISCOVERED THAT BULLET HOLES IN A WINDOW SHOWED THAT ESTRADA FIRED DOWN TOWARDS THE BOYS, INSTEAD OF UP AS HE CLAIMED. THE BOYS WERE UNHURT AND ESTRADA WAS ARRESTED AND HIS GUNS WERE SEIZED.

UKIAH WOMAN GUILTY OF ASSAULT IN DUI CRASH (LAW) JB 6/10/14

A MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JURY RETURNED A VERDICT OF GUILTY FOR A WOMAN CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON DURING A DUI CRASH.

AFTER ONLY A FEW HOURS OF DELIBERATION, THE JURY RETURNED THE GUILTY VERDICTS ON SIX CHARGES AGAINST JOAN RAINVILLE, INCLUDING THE TWO ASSAULT CHARGES, POSSIBLE SETTING A NEW PRECEDENT BECAUSE RAINVILLE NEVER INJURED ANYONE. SHE DROVE HER CAR THROUGH A NEIGHBORS FENCE, BARELY MISSING SOMEONE IN THE YARD AND THEN CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE WHERE A BOY WAS SLEEPING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL. AN AMBER ALERT WAS ISSUED MONDAY NIGHT FOR THREE CHILDREN ABDUCTED IN SAN PABLO AFTER THEIR FATHER WAS FOUND FATALLY SHOT IN THE BACKYARD OF HIS HOME.

THE THREE CHILDREN LIVED WITH THE VICTIM AT THE HOME, AND THEIR MOTHER, WHO POLICE BELIEVED HAS TAKEN THE CHILDREN, DID NOT. THE SUSPECT WAS IDENTIFIED BY POLICE AS ALICIA ORTEZ, 35, WHO IS DESCRIBED AS LATINA, 5 FEET 5 AND 160 POUNDS, WITH BLACK HAIR AND BROWN EYES. THE SAN PABLO POLICE DEPARTMENT SAID THE THREE CHILDREN WERE TAKEN SUNDAY FROM THE BAY AREA CITY. THE FIRST CHILD IS 12 YEAR OLD HUGO ANGUIANO, THE SECOND IS 6 YEAR OLD MERARI ANGUIANO, AND THE THIRD IS 2 YEAR OLD JENH ANGUIANO. THE CAUSE OF THE DEATHS OF THOUSANDS OF CARP IN LAKE MENDOCINO STILL REMAINS A MYSTERY TO LAKE OFFICIALS.

THE TESTS FOR THE INITIAL SUSPECTED CAUSE, KOI HERPES VIRUS, PERFORMED AT U.C. DAVIS YIELDED INCONCLUSIVE RESULTS AND OTHER TEST RESULTS ARENT EXPECTED FOR SEVERAL MORE WEEKS. THE NUMBER OF DEAD CARP, WHICH BEGAN WASHING UP OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED AT FIVE TO TEN THOUSAND. FIVE ACRES OF TIMBER AND AN OUTBUILDING WERE CONSUMED BY A WILDLAND FIRE IN A RURAL AREA WEST OF LAYTONVILLE.

THE FIRE, THAT STARTED SHORTLY AFTER 7:00PM ON WEDNESDAY, WAS LOCATED IN THE WOODS OFF OF BRANSCOMB ROAD. CAL FIRE AND LAYTONVILLE FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED QUICKLY WITH TANKERS, A HELICOPTER, FOUR ENGINES AND FIRE CREWS, A WATER TENDER, AND A BATTALION CHIEF. ALTHOUGH THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED IN ABOUT FOUR HOURS, THREE ENGINES AND CREWS REMAINED ON SCENE THURSDAY MORNING TO WATCH FOR HOT SPOTS. THE CAUSE OF THE BLAZE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

FIREFIGHTERS AND EMTS TRAVERSED DOWN A STEEP CLIFF WHILE OTHERS RESPONDED ON JET SKIS TO A SWIMMER DRAGGING THE BODY OF THE MOTIONLESS VICTIM. 53 YEAR OLD DAVID ALAN LONGMORE OF UPPER LAKE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. A WARRANT SEARCH OF A UKIAH RESIDENCE LED TO THE DISCOVERY OF EXPLOSIVE BLASTING CAPS.

OFFICERS DISCOVERED THE BLASTING CAPS DURING THE SERVICE OF A SEARCH WARRANT AT A HOME NEAR THE CORNER OF SOUTH DORA AND JEFFERSON LANE, NEAR GRACE HUDSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE CAPS ARE COMMONLY USED TO DETONATE EXPLOSIVES. UKIAH VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY WAS ON STANDBY AS THE AREA WAS SECURED AND A RESPONSE REQUEST WAS MADE TO SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE BOMB SQUAD.

THE SHERIFFS NARCOTICS TASK FORCE SUCCESSFULLY ERADICATED NEARLY 6000 MARIJUANA PLANTS FROM AN ILLEGAL GROW IN LOWER LAKE.

FOLLOWING INTEL FROM AN OVER FLIGHT RECONNAISSANCE MISSION, THE NARCOTICS TASK FORCE RAIDED THE GROW SITE LOCATED IN THE AREA OF MORGAN VALLEY ROAD AND SLOAN RANCH ROAD. DETECTIVES LOCATED A COMPLEX DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM WITH TIMERS TO WATER THE PLANTS WITH WATER ILLEGALLY OBTAINED FROM BLM PROPERTY. THE DHARMA REALM BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY HAS APPLIED FOR A USE PERMIT OF THE WEST SIDE CAMPUS, INCLUDING PROPERTIES AT 915 WEST CHURCH STREET, 225 HOPE STREET, AND 200 BARNES STREET. THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY IS STILL IN THE DISCOVERY PROCESS AS THEY CONSIDER THE BUDDHIST UNIVERSITYS PLANS TO USE ALL THE EXISTING BUILDINGS FOR THEIR ORIGINAL PURPOSES. CLEARLAKE K9 APPREHENDS SUSPECT (LAW) JB 6/5/14

A WANTED PAROLE WAS APPREHENDED THIS MORNING IN CLEARLAKE BY A POLICE K9 OFFICER.

39 YEAR OLD FRANK LOWERY, ON PAROLE FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, WAS CONTACTED BY CLEARLAKE POLICE THIS MORNING FOR A WARRANTS CHECK. WHEN OFFICERS WERE NOTIFIED THAT LOWERY HAD A PAROLE WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST, THE SUSPECT FLED ACROSS OLD HIGHWAY 53 TOWARDS SEVERAL RESIDENCES. CLEARLAKE K9 HARLEY GAVE PURSUIT AND APPREHENDED LOWERY QUICKLY. LOWERY WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND TAKEN TO ST HELENA HOSPITAL FOR SEVERAL PUNCTURE WOUNDS.

MEASURE N, WHICH PASSED ON TUESDAYS ELECTION WITH 52.6 PERCENT FAVORABLE VOTES, WILL BE ENFORCED BY THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE. THE MEASURE BANS OUTDOOR CULTIVATION IN COMMUNITY GROWTH BOUNDARIES AND ON VACANT PARCELS, IT ALSO PROHIBITS ANY OUTDOOR CULTIVATION WITHIN 1000 FEET OF A SCHOOL, PARK. OR ANY FACILITY THAT SERVES CHILDREN AND A MINIMUM 100 FEET FROM BODIES OF WATER.
