A SECTION OF BUSH STREET WILL BE CLOSED FOR ROAD WORK TODAY AND TOMORROW.

THE CITY OF UKIAH STREET MAINTENANCE DIVISION WILL CLOSE THE NORTHBOUND LANE OF BUSH STREET FROM ARLINGTON DRIVE TO EMPIRE DRIVE ON TUESDAY, JULY 1ST AND WEDNESDAY, JULY 2ND. WORK ON THIS STREET WILL BE PERFORMED BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:30AM AND 4:30PM. PLEASE USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE DURING THESE HOURS OF CLOSURE.

SEARCH FOR MISSING ABALONE DIVER CONTINUES (LAW) JB 7/1/14

ROUGH WATERS HAVE HAMPERED THE SEARCH FOR A MISSING ABALONE DIVER OFF THE MENDOCINO COAST.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM MEMBERS WERE JOINED BY ELK VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS IN THE SEARCH FOR THE 50 YEAR OLD SAN FRANCISCO MAN. WITNESSES STATED THAT HE WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS WHEN A LARGE WAVE SLAMMED HIM INTO THE ROCKS WHILE HE WAS DIVING IN ELK HARBOR ON SUNDAY. THE SEARCH FOR HIS BODY CONTINUES TODAY AT LOW TIDE. THE MAN, WHOSE NAME HASNT BEEN RELEASED, IS THE THIRD ABALONE DIVER TO DIE OFF THE MENDOCINO COAST THIS SEASON.

WILLITS CITY COUNCIL EXTENDS 2013-14 BUDGET (GOV) JB 7/1/14

AN EXTENSION OF THE CURRENT 2013-14 BUDGET WAS PASSED BY THE WILLITS CITY COUNCIL.

THE COUNCIL MET MONDAY EVENING SPECIFICALLY TO EXTEND THE 2013-14 BUDGET. WILLITS CITY STAFF AND THE COUNCIL CONTINUE TO WORK ON CLOSING THE $400,000 DEFICIT GAP BUT DID NOT HAVE A FINAL DOCUMENT BY JUNE 30, THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR. THE ACTION WAS REQUIRED FOR THE CITY OF WILLITS TO CONTINUE TO FUNCTION IN THE ABSENCE OF AN ADOPTED 2014-15 BUDGET. THE FULL BUDGET WILL BE BROUGHT BACK AT THE AUGUST 13 COUNCIL MEETING FOR ADOPTION.

ROLLOVER DUI ACCIDENT IN LAKEPORT (LAW) JB 7/1/14

AN EARLY MORNING ROLLOVER ACCIDENT IN LAKEPORT LED TO THE ARREST OF THE DRIVER FOR DUI.

LAKEPORT POLICE OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO MARTIN STREET NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH FORBES STREET AND FOUND THE DRIVER, 23 YEAR MARC JACOBAN JR SITTING ON THE CURB WITH OBVIOUS SIGNS OF INJURY. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, JACOBANS MAZDA 3 HIT THE CURB AND THEN A STONE FENCE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FLIP AND LAND ON ITS ROOF. INITIAL BLOOD ALCOHOL TESTS SHOWED JACOBAN WAS MORE THAN THREE TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT. JACOBAN WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL ON MULTIPLE CHARGES.

ASSAULT ON TWO HIKERS IN LOW GAP PARK (LAW) JB 7/1/14

TWO MEN HIKING IN LOW GAP PARK WERE ATTACKED BY A MAN THROWING ROCKS AT THEM.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO LOW GAP REGIONAL PARK SUNDAY MORNING AND WERE INFORMED BY THE TWO VICTIMS THAT THEY HAD BEEN ATTACKED WHILE HIKING NEAR THE PARKS DISC GOLF COURSE. THE SUSPECT WAS IDENTIFIED AS 37 YEAR OLD SCOTT MCGANN OF HOPLAND. MCGANN, WHO LIVES IN THE PARK, PUSHED THE MEN OFF THE TRAIL AND THEN HIT BOTH OF THE MEN WITH LARGE ROCKS, LEAVING ONE OF THE MEN WITH A LARGE CUT THAT REQUIRED STITCHES. MCGANN WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FIREWORKS ILLEGAL IN MENDOCINO COUNTY (PI/LAW) JB 7/1/14

CAL FIRE WANTS TO REMIND EVERYONE ABOUT THE DANGERS OF USING FIREWORKS THIS FOURTH OF JULY.

MANY SERIOUS INJURIES OCCUR NATIONWIDE DUE TO THE CARELESS HANDLING OF FIREWORKS. IN MENDOCINO COUNTY, ALL TYPES OF FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL AND THEIR USE IS PUNISHABLE BY LAW. ANYONE POSSESSING, TRANSPORTING, OR USING FIREWORKS IN MENDOCINO COUNTY IS IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW. CHILDREN ARE AT THE GREATEST RISK OF INJURY AND PARENTS OR GUARDIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF MINORS THAT INJURE SOMEONE OR DAMAGE SOMEONES PROPERTY.

LAKE COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IMPROVES (ECN) JB 7/1/14

A NEW REPORT ON UNEMPLOYMENT ACROSS THE STATE SHOWS A LARGE IMPROVEMENT IN LAKE COUNTYS JOBLESS RATE.

THE EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTS MOST RECENT REPORT SHOWED THAT LAKE COUNTYS CURRENT UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS AT 9 PERCENT, DOWN FROM 11.3 PERCENT A YEAR AGO. THE DROP IN THE JOBLESS RATE HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO LATE SPRING FARMING. THE CURRENT JOBLESS RATE IN LAKE COUNTY IS THE LOWEST IT HAS BEEN SINCE 2007. MENDOCINO COUNTY CURRENTLY HAS A 5.9 PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AND MARIN COUNTY TOPS THE STATE WITH 3.9 PERCENT.

CLEARLAKE POLICE K9 APPREHENDS FELON (LAW) JB 7/1/14

A CLEARLAKE POLICE K9 OFFICER APPREHENDED A MAN WANTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY WARRANTS.

CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS ATTEMPTED TO LOCATE 38 YEAR OLD LANCE LELAND SCARBOROUGH AT AN ADDRESS ON MOUNTAIN VIEW STREET ON SATURDAY EVENING. SCARBOROUGH, WANTED ON TWO FELONY WARRANTS, IMMEDIATELY LOCKED THE DOORS AND TRIED TO BARRICADE THE ENTRANCE TO THE HOUSE WITH A COUCH. CLEARLAKE K9 DEX ENTERED THE RESIDENCE THROUGH A WINDOW AND APPREHENDED SCARBOROUGH QUICKLY, ALLOWING OFFICERS TO OPEN THE BARRICADED DOOR. SCARBOROUGH WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL AND IS BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL ON ONE OF THE WARRANTS.
