MENDO SUBMITS 2,235 SIGNATURES TO SPLIT CALIFORNIA (GOV) JB 7/23/14

A PLAN TO SPLIT CALIFORNIA INTO SIX DIFFERENT STATES HAS THE APPROVAL OF OVER 2,000 MENDOCINO COUNTY RESIDENTS.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY CLERK AND RECORDER HAS RECEIVED 2,235 PETITION SIGNATURES FAVORING THE RADICAL SIX CALIFORNIAS STATE DIVISION PLAN. THE PROPOSED STATE BREAK UP PLAN, CONCEIVED BY VENTURE CAPITALIST TIMOTHY DRAPER, WOULD NEED 807,615 PETITION SIGNATURES FOR IT TO BE PLACED ON THE NOVEMBER 2015 BALLOT. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION ON THE SIX CALIFORNIAS WEBSITE, MENDOCINO COUNTY WOULD BE PART OF THE NEW JEFFERSON STATE WITH A TOTAL STATE POPULATION OF UNDER 1 MILLION RESIDENTS.

UKIAH WOMAN HIT BY CAR SAVING TODDLER (LAW) JB 7/23/14

A WOMAN WAS HIT BY A CAR IN UKIAH AFTER RUNNING INTO THE STREET TO PROTECT A TODDLER.

FIREFIGHTERS FROM THE UKIAH VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY RESPONDED TO AN ADDRESS ON EMPIRE DRIVE FRIDAY NIGHT TO A REPORT OF A CHILD BEING HIT BY A CAR. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TWO YEAR OLD HAD RUN INTO THE STREET AND A 47 YEAR FEMALE FAMILY MEMBER DASHED INTO THE STREET AFTER HIM. SHE WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE CHILD OUT OF THE WAY OF AN ONCOMING CAR BUT WAS STRUCK BY THE VEHICLE HERSELF. BOTH THE CHILD AND THE WOMAN WERE TAKEN TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT OF THEIR INJURIES.

CLEARLAKE POLICE HONOR K9 PROGRAM DONOR (LAW) JB 7/23/14

A LAKE COUNTY WOMAN WAS HONORED BY THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR HER DONATION TO THE DEPARTMENTS K9 PROGRAM.

CLEARLAKE POLICE CHIEF CRAIG CLAUSEN PRESENTED CLEARLAKE RESIDENT CHARLOTTE GRISWOLD WITH A PLAQUE AND A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE K9 TEAM EARLIER THIS MONTH IN RECOGNITION OF HER $2,500 DONATION TO THE K9 PROGRAM. THE DEPARTMENT CURRENTLY HAS THREE K9 TEAMS, WITH THE COST FOR EACH TEAM TOTALING APPROXIMATELY $10,000 EACH. DONATIONS SUCH AS GRISWOLDS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE TEAMS EXISTENCE BECAUSE THE K9 PROGRAM IS ENTIRELY FUNDED BY DONATIONS AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS.

BAIL SET AT $5 MILLION IN MURDER CASE (LAW) JB 7/23/14

AN ACCUSED MURDERER HELD IN JAIL FOR NEARLY THREE YEARS ON A NO-BAIL HOLD HAS BEEN GRANTED A BAIL AMOUNT OF $5 MILLION.

52 YEAR OLD DANIEL RAY LOYD HAS BEEN HELD IN THE LAKE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY SINCE LATE 2011, ACCUSED OF MURDERING CINDY YVETTE QUIETT IN SEPTEMBER OF THAT YEAR. LOYD IS CHARGED WITH SIX DIFFERENT FELONY COUNTS IN THE CASE, INCLUDING MURDER AND SEVERAL SPECIAL ALLEGATIONS. ALTHOUGH THE JUDGE HAS FINALLY SET A BAIL AMOUNT FOR LOYDS RELEASE, THE HIGH AMOUNT WILL LIKELY KEEP HIM IN CUSTODY UNTIL HIS TRIAL WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS SEPTEMBER.

DRUGS SEIZED, TWO ARRESTED NEAR CLEARLAKE OAKS (LAW) JB 7/23/14

A TRAFFIC STOP FOR A BROKEN TAIL LIGHT IN CLEARLAKE OAKS LEADS TO THE SEIZURE OF MULTIPLE DRUGS.

A LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE DEPUTY PERFORMED A TRAFFIC STOP OF A FORD EXPLORER DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR CLEARLAKE OAKS LAST WEEK AFTER NOTICING THE CAR HAD A BROKEN TAIL LIGHT. THE DRIVER OF THE CAR, THOMAS EARL SHEPPARD OF CHICO, WAS ON FELONY PROBATION WITH A SEARCH CLAUSE. THE ODOR OF MARIJUANA IN THE CAR LED TO A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, NETTING 2.3 GRAMS OF METH, 5.1 GRAMS OF HEROIN, AND OVER 4 OUNCES OF MARIJUANA. SHEPPARD WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

SEXUAL ASSAULT IN FORT BRAGG (LAW) JB 7/23/14

A FORT BRAGG MAN IS IN CUSTODY AFTER ALLEGEDLY SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A SLEEPING WOMAN

FORT BRAGG POLICE WERE DISPATCHED TO AN ADDRESS ON WEST STREET TO THE REPORT OF A WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY A MALE ROOMMATE. THE WOMAN STATED THAT SHE HAD SLIPPED INTO A DEEP SLEEP AFTER TAKING PRESCRIBED MEDICATION AND DRINKING ALCOHOL. SHE AWOKE TO ONE OF HER MALE ROOMMATES SEXUALLY ASSAULTING HER AS SHE SLEPT ON THE COUCH. THE MAN, 48 YEAR OLD JUSTINO CAN, WAS LOCATED IN THE APARTMENT AND ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

MENDOCINO BOS ADDRESSES CEOS LIBRARY RESPONSE (GOV) JB 7/23/14

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS SIDED WITH COUNTY CEO CARMEL ANGELO REGARDING A GRAND JURY REPORT ON THE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONCURRED WITH ANGELOS RESPONSES TO THE GRAND JURY REPORT, STATING THAT THE REPORT CONTAINED MOSTLY UNTRUE FINDINGS. 3RD DISTRICT SUPERVISOR, JOHN PINCHES, STATED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NO ATTEMPTS BY THIS BOARD TO TAKE ANY MONEY OUT OF THE LIBRARY SYSTEM. THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL BE SCHEDULING SEMI-ANNUAL MEETINGS WITH THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE GRAND JURY.

SUPERVISORS DIRECT STAFF TO WORK ON NEW LAKE TAX (GOV) JB 7/23/14

A NEW SALES TAX MEASURE TO HELP CLEAR LAKE WATER QUALITY PROJECTS HAS BEEN REQUESTED BY THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.

AT YESTERDAYS MEETING, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS DIRECTED COUNTY STAFF TO PREPARE THE NEW TAX MEASURE FOR INCLUSION ON THE UPCOMING NOVEMBER BALLOT. COUNTY COUNSEL ANITA GRANT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE TIMEFRAME WAS EXTREMELY NARROW TO COMPLETE PREPARATION OF THE MEASURE BY ELECTION TIME. FUNDS GENERATED BY THE NEW MEASURE WOULD BE USED TOWARDS A MORE COMPREHENSIVE AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES PREVENTION PROGRAM, INCLUDING A WIDER RANGE OF BOAT INSPECTION STATIONS.
