LODGE FIRE NOW AT 50 PERCENT CONTAINMENT (LAW/EVR) JB 8/14/14

FIREFIGHTERS ARE GETTING THE UPPER HAND IN THE BATTLE WITH THE LODGE LIGHTNING COMPLEX FIRE.

FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUED TO ENHANCE THE LINES IN THE AREA OF THE TEN MILE DRAINAGE AND ALONG THE HIGHWAY 101 CORRIDOR. AIRCRAFT RESOURCES WERE ABLE TO ENGAGE IN SUPPRESSION ACTIVITY ONCE THE MORNING CLOUDS HAD CLEARED IN THE AFTERNOON. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS HAS OFFICIALLY CLOSED THE EVACUATION CENTER AT THE LEGGET SCHOOL BUT STATED THAT IT COULD BE REOPENED IF THE NEED EXISTS. THE LODGE FIRE NOW STANDS AT 50% CONTAINED AND HAS BURNED 11,300 ACRES.

MAN RUNS INTO TRUCK, INJURES UKIAH GIRL. (LAW) JB 8/14/14

A UKIAH GIRL WAS INJURED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHEN A PEDESTRIAN RAN INTO THE SIDE OF HER FATHERS TRUCK.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT A MALE PEDESTRIAN, ATTEMPTING TO RUN ACROSS STATE STREET, CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A PICKUP TRUCK. THE MAN KNOCKED THE SIDE MIRROR OFF IN THE COLLISION AND IT STRUCK A 15-YEAR-OLD FEMALE PASSENGER IN THE FACE. THE 39 YEAR OLD DRIVER OF THE TRUCK GRABBED THE MAN TO HOLD HIM FOR A CITIZENS ARREST, BUT LET HIM GO TO ATTEND TO HIS DAUGHTERS INJURY AND THE PEDESTRIAN FLED THE SCENE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THIS ACCIDENT IS ASKED TO CALL THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT.

FISH AND GAME COMMISSION APPROVE PROJECT FUNDS (EVR) JB 8/14/14

FUNDING FOR SEVERAL FISH AND GAME COMMISSION PROJECTS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.

THE BOARD VOTED 3-2 ON TUESDAY IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE FUNDS FOR THE MENDOCINO COUNTY FISH AND GAME COMMISSIONS PROJECT CYCLE FOR 2014/15. THE COMMISSION HAD ORIGINALLY RECOMMENDED A TOTAL OF $26,955, HOWEVER AN ADDITIONAL $5,000 WAS GRANTED TO FUND A LOWER USAL CREEK GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROJECT, RAISING THE TOTAL GRANTED TO THE PROJECT CYCLE TO $31,955. TUESDAY MARKED THE FIRST FUNDING RECOMMENDATION BY THE COMMISSION TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS SINCE 2011.

AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR MENDOCINO COUNTY (EVR) JB 8/14/14

AN AIR QUALITY ADVISORY HAS BEEN RELEASED FOR SEVERAL AREAS IN MENDOCINO COUNTY.

THE LODGE FIRE BURNING IN THE LAYTONVILLE AREA COMBINED WITH VARYING WEATHER PATTERNS CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE TO UNHEALTHY SMOKE, HAZE, AND VARIED AIR QUALITY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. SMOKE IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE FIRE IN THE COMMUNITIES OF LAYTONVILLE, LEGGET, AND BRANSCOMB PERIODICALLY REACHES LEVELS THAT ARE VERY UNHEALTHY. SMOKE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT AIR QUALITY CONDITIONS FROM GOOD TO UNHEALTHY FOR THE NEXT 30 TO 60 DAYS. CURRENT UPDATES ON THE AIR QUALITY READINGS CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.MENDOAIR.ORG.

CLEARLAKE MAN FACING POSSIBLE 4TH DUI CHARGE (LAW) JB 8/14/14

AFTER AN ACCIDENT IN SANTA ROSA, A CLEARLAKE MAN IS FACING A POSSIBLE FOURTH DUI CHARGE IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS.

39 YEAR OLD CRAIG BELSHAW OF CLEARLAKE WAS ARRESTED ON TUESDAY EVENING AFTER CRASHING INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER CAR WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 101 IN SANTA ROSA. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED IN THE ACCIDENT BUT BELSHAW APPEARED TO BE INTOXICATED. A CHECK OF BELSHAWS RECORDS FOUND THAT HED HAD THREE RECENT DUI CONVICTIONS, IN ADDITION TO THREE CONVICTIONS FOR DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE AND ARREST WARRANTS IN THREE DIFFERENT COUNTIES. THIS NEW POSSIBLE DUI CONVICTION WOULD BE BELSHAWS FOURTH IN 18 MONTHS.

3.2 MAGNITUDE QUAKE REPORTED NEAR UPPER LAKE (EVR) JB 8/14/14

A 3.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE WAS REPORTED IN THE AREA OF UPPER LAKE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

ACCORDING TO THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEYS PRELIMINARY REPORT OF THE INCIDENT, THE EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED AT 3:32 PM ON WEDNESDAY. THE USGS REPORTED THAT THE EPICENTER OF THE QUAKE WAS LOCATED 11 MILES NORTH OF UPPER LAKE AND 21 MILES NORTHEAST OF UKIAH, AT A DEPTH OF 7.3 MILES. SHAKE REPORTS WERE RECEIVED BY THE USGS FROM POTTER VALLEY AND REDWOOD VALLEY.

R.V. MAN ARRESTED IN PARKING LOT HOLD-UP (LAW) JB 8/14/14

A REDWOOD VALLEY MAN WAS ARRESTED THIS WEEK IN CONNECTION WITH AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN UKIAH.

THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED THE ARREST OF 27-YEAR-OLD JAMES P. MILLER ON AUGUST 11. MILLER HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE MAN WHO, ON JUNE 14, ENTERED AN OCCUPIED VEHICLE IN THE HOME DEPOT PARKING LOT IN UKIAH AND DEMANDED MONEY FROM THE DRIVER, REPORTEDLY THREATENING TO STAB HIM IF HE DIDNT COMPLY. MILLER THEN ALLEGEDLY TOOK THE KEYS FROM THE CARS IGNITION AND FLED THE SCENE. POLICE STOPPED MILLER ON MONDAY ON SOUTH ORCHARD STREET AND ARRESTED HIM ON SUSPICION OF ROBBERY AND CRIMINAL THREATS.

LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE HOTLINE SET UP BY HHSA (PI) JB 8/14/14

THE COUNTY IS CONTINUING THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE CONTRACTION OF LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE BY THREE PEOPLE AT A UKIAH HOTEL.

GUESTS WHO STAYED AT THE DISCOVERY INN IN UKIAH BETWEEN JUNE AND AUGUST OF THIS YEAR MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE BACTERIA. THE MENDOCINO COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN RESOURCES AGENCY HAS REQUESTED A LIST OF PEOPLE WHO WERE REGISTERED AT THE HOTEL DURING THOSE DATES BUT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED COMPLETE INFORMATION YET. FINAL WATER TEST RESULTS FROM THE HOTEL ARE EXPECTED NEXT WEEK. THE HHSA RECOMMENDS THAT, IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO THE BACTERIA, THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR OR CALL THE PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE AT 472-2650.
