6.0 EARTHQUAKE HITS AMERICAN CANYON YESTERDAY (EVR) JB 8/25/14

THE LARGEST EARTHQUAKE TO HIT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SINCE 1989 SHOOK THE NORTH BAY JUST AFTER 3 AM YESTERDAY MORNING.

THE 6.0 MAGNITUDE QUAKE WAS CENTERED ABOUT FOUR MILES NORTHWEST OF AMERICAN CANYON AND SHAKE REPORTS WERE REPORTED FROM SALINAS TO SACRAMENTO. NEARLY 200 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ADMITTED TO NAPA AND SONOMA AREA HOSPITALS WITH INJURIES FROM THE QUAKE AND MORE THAN 60,000 PEOPLE WERE WITHOUT POWER FOLLOWING THE TREMOR. THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STATED THAT UP TO 30-50 AFTERSHOCKS MEASURING 3.5 TO 5.0 IN MAGNITUDE COULD BE FELT THIS WEEK.

ELDERLY UKIAH MEN DIE IN ATV CRASH (LAW) JB 8/25/14

AN ATV ACCIDENT IN UKIAH ON FRIDAY CLAIMED THE LIVES OF TWO UKIAH MEN IN THEIR 80S.

81 YEAR OLD FLOYD ROSS JR AND 86 YEAR OLD DOUGLAS DUNNEBECK WERE HUNTING ON THE POMO LANE RANCH EARLY FRIDAY MORNING WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THEY WERE TRAVELING ON A PRIVATE ROAD ON THE RANCH WHEN THEIR ATV WENT OFF THE ROAD AND STRUCK A TREE, EJECTING BOTH MEN. AFTER THEY HAD BEEN AWAY FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, FRIENDS BEGAN A SEARCH FOR THE TWO MEN AND THEY WERE DISCOVERED DECEASED AROUND 4:45 PM FRIDAY AFTERNOON. CHP REPORTS THAT TWO MEN WERE NOT WEARING HELMETS AT THE TIME OF ACCIDENT.

DETAILS EMERGE ON REDWOOD VALLEY HOME INVASION (LAW) JB 8/25/14

DETAILS ARE BEGINNING TO EMERGE ABOUT THE RECENT HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN REDWOOD VALLEY.

NEW REPORTS FROM THE SHERIFFS OFFICE STATED THAT TWO UNIDENTIFIED MEN ENTERED THE HOME ON COLONY DRIVE THROUGH AN UNLOCKED BEDROOM DOOR AT APPROXIMATELY 5:20 AM LAST THURSDAY. THE 60-YEAR-OLD FEMALE VICTIM WAS PISTOL WHIPPED SEVERAL TIMES AND BOUND AS THE SUSPECTS DEMANDED MONEY AND MARIJUANA. THE SUSPECTS THEN BOUND THE 62-YEAR-OLD MALE VICTIM AT GUNPOINT AND MONEY, A SHOTGUN, AND JEWELRY WERE TAKEN IN THE ROBBERY. SHERIFFS DETECTIVES DID NOT LOCATE ANYTHING AT THE SCENE THAT WOULD INDICATE THE VICTIMS WERE INVOLVED IN GROWING MARIJUANA.

SUPERVISORS RECONSIDER LITTLE RIVER TIMBER (GOV/EVR) JB 8/25/14

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARDS OF SUPERVISORS WILL MEET TUESDAY TO RECONSIDER THEIR APPROVAL OF THE SALE OF A TIMBER AREA AT THE LITTLE RIVER AIRPORT.

THE AGENDA FOR TUESDAYS MEETING OF THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WAS AMENDED LATE FRIDAY TO ACCOMMODATE THE POSSIBLE RECONSIDERATION OF THEIR PREVIOUS DECISION OF THE SALE. THE SUPERVISORS HAD ACCEPTED THE SOLE BID FROM MENDOCINO FOREST PRODUCTS TO HARVEST TIMBER AT THE LITTLE RIVER AIRPORT, DRAWING A GREAT DEAL OF CRITICISM FROM ENVIRONMENTALISTS. IF THE MOTION TO RECONSIDER IS APPROVED BY A MAJORITY VOTE OF THE BOARD, THE ORIGINAL MOTION APPROVING THE SALE WILL COME BACK BEFORE THE BOARD TO BE MODIFIED, WITHDRAWN, OR APPROVED AS-IS.

NICE MAN BOOKED ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES (LAW) JB 8/25/14

A SEARCH OF A HOME IN LUCERNE LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A NICE MAN ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES.

LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES VISITING A HOME ON 1ST AVENUE IN LUCERNE ON AN UNRELATED CASE, NOTICED DRUG PARAPHERNALIA IN PLAIN SIGHT. AFTER CONTACTING THE NARCOTICS TASK FORCE, 38-YEAR-OLD RAYMOND BOWMAN WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY DEPUTIES AND A SEARCH OF THE RESIDENCE WAS CONDUCTED. OVER 25 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, 8.5 GRAMS OF METH, 8 LSD PILLS, 5 DIAZEPAM PILLS, HEROIN, AND 48 MARIJUANA PLANTS WERE DISCOVERED DURING THE SEARCH AND BOWMAN WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY DRUG CHARGES AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

POLICE ARREST MAN FOR ASSAULTING OFFICER (LAW) JB 8/25/14

AN INCIDENT WITH A DRUNK LAKEPORT MAN TURNED DANGEROUS AFTER THE MAN ASSAULTED A POLICE OFFICER.

LAKEPORT POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A DRUNK MAN CHALLENGING PEOPLE TO FIGHT DURING A CONCERT IN LIBRARY PARK ON FRIDAY NIGHT. AT ONE POINT, THE DRUNK SUSPECT WAS EVEN KICKING THE FRONT DOORS OF THE LAKE COUNTY COURTHOUSE. 35-YEAR-OLD TERRY LEE SARGENT FLED WHEN AN OFFICER APPROACHED HIM BUT HE WAS TACKLED BY THE OFFICER IN THE PARK NEAR MAIN AND THIRD STREETS. SARGENT THEN KICKED THE OFFICER AND PUNCHED HIM IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD BEFORE BEING SUBDUED BY THE OFFICERS TASER. SARGENT IS WELL KNOWN TO LAKEPORT POLICE AND IS CONSIDERED HOSTILE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

CHP INVESTIGATES BIKE CRASH IN HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE (LAW) JB 8/25/14

THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL IS INVESTIGATING A BICYCLE CRASH IN HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE THAT SERIOUSLY INJURED THE RIDER.

THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON SATURDAY MORNING WHEN 21 YEAR OLD DANIEL RENNINGER WAS RIDING ON DEER HILL ROAD, NORTH OF HIDDEN VALLEY ROAD. RENNINGER WAS RIDING SOUTHBOUND WHEN, FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS BICYCLE AND FELL ONTO THE ROAD, RESULTING IN MAJOR HEAD INJURIES. REPORTED AS CONVULSING AND UNRESPONSIVE, RENNINGER WAS FLOWN TO VACAVILLE KAISER HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. CHP REPORTS THAT RENNINGER WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET AT THE TIME ACCIDENT.

SUPERVISORS TO DISCUSS RESPONSES TO GRAND JURY (GOV) JB 8/25/14

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ARE SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS RESPONSES TO GRAND JURY REPORTS THIS WEEK.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HOLD ITS LAST AUGUST MEETING ON TUESDAY AND RESPONSES TO GRAND JURY REPORTS ARE ON THE MEETING AGENDA. THE BOARD HAS NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION TO REQUESTS FOR RESPONSE FROM THE GRAND JURY REPORTS SO FAR THIS YEAR. STATE LAW REQUIRES THE SUPERVISORS TO RESPOND TO SOME OR ALL OF THE GRAND JURY REPORT FINDINGS WITHIN 90 DAYS OF ISSUANCE OF THE REPORT. THE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM AND THE STATE OF MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN THE COUNTY ARE JUST A FEW OF THE TOPICS INCLUDED IN THE GRAND JURY REPORTS FOR THIS YEAR.
