TWO ARRESTED IN MENDO VACATION HOME BURGLARY (LAW) JB 9/2/14

TWO PEOPLE ON PROBATION FOR OTHER CRIMES, WERE ARRESTED IN THE ACT OF BURGLARIZING A MENDOCINO VACATION HOME.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO A BURGLARY IN PROCESS AT A HOME ON VERDE DRIVE IN MENDOCINO. THEY FOUND JENIFER BORGES AND TUCKER CHESTER AT THE RESIDENCE, AND THE TWO SUSPECTS CLAIMED THEY HAD PERMISSION TO USE THE VACATION HOME. FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY DEPUTIES FOUND CHESTER IN POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS AND RUBBER GLOVES AND THAT HE WAS ON PROBATION FOR BURGLARY. BOTH BORGES AND CHESTER WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED IN THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

TEN YEAR OLD UKIAH BOY DIES IN ATV ACCIDENT (LAW) JB 9/2/14

A TEN YEAR OLD UKIAH BOY WAS KILLED IN AN ATV ACCIDENT OVER THE WEEKEND.

DAVID POMILIA WAS RIDING IN A 2012 POLARIS ON A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY ON WEST ROAD SUNDAY AFTERNOON WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, HIS ATV STRUCK A WIRE FENCE, EJECTING POMILIA AND ROLLING THE ATV ON TOP OF HIM. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO UKIAH VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER WHERE HE LATER SUCCUMBED TO HIS INJURIES. CHP REPORTS STATE THAT POMILIA WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THIS TRAGIC ACCIDENT MARKS THE FOURTH PERSON THAT HAS DIED IN ATV ACCIDENTS IN THE COUNTY THIS SUMMER.

WILLITS COUNCIL APPROVES MEDICAL CAMPUS PLANS (GOV/PI) JB 9/2/14

A NEW RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW MEDICAL CAMPUS WAS PASSED BY THE WILLITS CITY COUNCIL.

THE WILLITS NEWS REPORTED THAT THE COUNCIL, ACTING AS THE WILLITS PLANNING COMMISSION PASSED THE RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FRANK R. HOWARD MEMORIAL FOUNDATION PLANS TO CONSTRUCT A MEDICAL CAMPUS ANCHORED AROUND THE NEW HOSPITAL. THE FIRST BUILDINGS TO BE CONSTRUCTED ARE LIKELY TO BE 16 TEMPORARY HOUSING UNITS NEEDED FOR RECUPERATING PATIENTS AND EMERGENCY AND ON-CALL STAFF. FUTURE BUILDINGS INCLUDE A WELLNESS CENTER, INCLUDING A COMMERCIAL KITCHEN, EXERCISE AND TREATMENT ROOMS, AND A COVERED POOL.

UKIAH MAY TOUGHEN CAMPING LAWS (GOV/LAW) JB 9/2/14

A NEW ORDINANCE INCREASING THE PENALTY FOR CAMPING WITHIN CITY LIMITS WILL BE DISCUSSED BY THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL ON WEDNESDAY.

THE INCREASED PENALTY FOR CAMPING WITHIN THE UKIAH CITY LIMITS IS BEING RECOMMENDED BY SEVERAL CITY STAFF MEMBERS INCLUDING POLICE CHIEF CHRIS DEWEY. THE RECOMMENDATION IS THAT ALL VIOLATIONS OF THE CITYS EXISTING CAMPING AND PANHANDLING ORDINANCES BE CLASSIFIED AS MISDEMEANORS. ISSUES FROM ENFORCING CURRENT INFRACTIONS OF THE CAMPING ORDINANCES HAVE STEMMED FROM INFRACTION TICKETS BEING DISMISSED OR NOT BEING FILED THROUGH THE COURTS AT ALL. WEDNESDAYS MEETING BEGINS AT 6 PM IN THE UKIAH COUNCIL CHAMBERS.

CLEARLAKE MEN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING OFFICERS (LAW) JB 9/2/14

TWO CLEARLAKE MEN WERE ARRESTED SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER THEY ALLEGEDLY FOUGHT WITH, AND INJURED, TWO MEMBERS OF SONOMA COUNTYS GANG TASK FORCE.

21-YEAR OLDS IVAN RODRIGUEZ AND RICHARD CONTRERAS WERE ARRESTED AFTER A FIGHT ENSUED WITH OFFICERS AT A GAS STATION ON TODD ROAD IN SANTA ROSA. OFFICERS ATTEMPTED TO TAKE RODRIGUEZ INTO CUSTODY FOR A PAROLE VIOLATION WHEN THE FIGHT BROKE OUT. A SEARCH OF THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT FOUND A LOADED 9-MILLIMETER HANDGUN IN A GARBAGE CAN. RODRIGUEZ AND CONTRERAS WERE BOTH BOOKED INTO THE SONOMA COUNTY JAIL ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES WITH THEIR BAILS SET AT $75,000 EACH.

DEPENDANT ADULT FOUND SAFE AFTER LEAVING HOME (LAW) JB 9/2/14

A CLEARLAKE WOMAN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WHO WALKED AWAY FROM HER HOME EARLY SUNDAY MORNING WAS FOUND SAFE LATER IN THE DAY.

30 YEAR OLD NICOLE WHITTINGTON WAS FOUND SAFE AND IN GOOD HEALTH ABOUT SIX HOURS AFTER SHE DISAPPEARED. SHE HAD AWAY FROM HER RESIDENCE ON 23RD AVENUE AROUND 1:40 AM SUNDAY MORNING WEARING ONLY PAJAMAS AND A T-SHIRT. WHITTINGTON HAS THE MENTAL CAPACITY OF A 10 YEAR OLD CHILD AND SUFFERS FROM SCHIZOPHRENIA, BIPOLAR DISORDER AMD INTERMITTENT EXPLOSIVE DISORDER RESULTING IN THE ELEVATED CONCERN FOR HER SAFETY. SHE WAS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 12 BLOCKS FROM HER RESIDENCE AND RETURNED TO THE HOME SAFELY.

FIRE NEAR FIRST GATE LIMITED TO TWO ACRES (LAW) JB 9/2/14

A FIRE PAST FIRST GATE IN WILLITS LAST WEEK BURNED WHAT APPEARED TO BE AN UNATTENDED MARIJUANA GARDEN.

AREA FIREFIGHTERS WERE SCRAMBLING TO LOCATE THE BLAZE, FIRST REPORTED ON PINE CREST ROAD. NEIGHBORS HELPED ESCORT FIREFIGHTERS TO THE SCENE DOWN A NARROW DIRT ROAD AND THROUGH LOCKED GATES TO BATTLE THE BLAZE. WHEN THEY ARRIVED, AN OUTBUILDING WAS ENGULFED AND A 500-GALLON PROPANE TANK WAS BURNING AND VENTING AFTER ROLLING DOWN THE HILLSIDE. CAL FIRE AND LITTLE LAKE FIREFIGHTERS HAD THE TWO-ACRE BLAZE UNDER CONTROL AFTER ABOUT 4.5 HOURS AND THE CAUSE OF THE BLAZE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

LAKE COUNTY SUPERVISORS TO HOLD BUDGET HEARING (GOV) JB 9/2/14

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL BUDGET HEARINGS AS IT SEEKS TO FINALIZE THE 2014-15 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HOLD THE ALL-DAY SPECIAL MEETING TO ALLOW THE COUNTY DEPARTMENT HEADS TO REVIEW THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROPOSED BUDGET WITH COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AND THE BOARD. A WORKSHOP BY THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER REVIEWING BUDGET PRIORITIES WAS HELD SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. THE WORKSHOP SHOWED THAT TOTAL REVENUES FOR THE COMING YEAR ARE ESTIMATED AT NEARLY $158 MILLION DOLLARS, WHILE TOTAL EXPENDITURES WERE ESTIMATED AT JUST UNDER $180 MILLION DOLLARS.
