GANG MEMBER ARREST FOR METH, FIREARM IN UKIAH (LAW) JB 9/12/14

A SEARCH OF A RESIDENCE AND BUSINESS IN UKIAH LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A REPORTED GANG MEMBER ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES.

THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT ASSISTED THE MENDOCINO MAJOR CRIMES TASK FORCE IN THE SERVICE OF A WARRANT AT A RESIDENCE AND BUSINESS ON SOUTH STATE STREET ON WEDNESDAY. INSIDE THE RESIDENCE, OFFICERS LOCATED OVER 1.5 OUNCES OF METHAMPHETAMINE PACKAGED FOR SALE, A FIREARM, BODY ARMOR, AND GANG RELATED ITEMS. OFFICERS ARRESTED 34 YEAR OLD LUIS GERALDO RODRIGUEZ, A CONVICTED FELON, ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES AND HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

LARGE GROUP TRASHES AND DAMAGES UKIAH PARK (PI) JB 9/12/14

A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HELD A MUSICAL EVENT IN LOW GAP PARK LEFT THE PARK IN SHAMBLES AND DAMAGED THE MAIN ACCESS BRIDGE TO THE AREA.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO RENTED THE HARRISON GROVE PART OF LOW GAP PARK FOR A CONCERT, COMPLETELY TRASHED THE AREA AND DAMAGED THE BRIDGE BY DRIVING A LARGE TOUR BUS ACROSS IT. THE OVERSIZED BUS KNOCKED OUT BOARDS OUT OF THE RAILING AND THE BRIDGE IS NOW BEING INSPECTED FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE MESS LEFT BEHIND BY THE GROUP WAS DESCRIBED BY A MAINTENANCE WORKER AS THE WORST HE HAD EVER SEEN. THE GROUP IS BEING CHARGED FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE BRIDGE AND THE COST FOR CLEANING UP THE PARK.

FUTURE ROADWORK PROJECTS OUTLINED FOR MENDO (TR) JB 9/12/14

THREE NEW ROADWORK PROJECTS HAVE BEEN OUTLINED FOR COMPLETION IN MENDOCINO COUNTY.

THE CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION HAS OUTLINED THREE FUTURE ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS COVERING 83 LANE MILES OF ROADWAY AT A COST OF $22 MILLION. THE FIRST TWO PROJECTS ARE IN THE LAYTONVILLE AREA, WITH 20 LANE MILES OF ROADWAY BEING UPGRADED JUST NORTH OF BRANSCOMB ROAD TO RATTLESNAKE BRIDGE AND FROM THE LONG VALLEY CREEK BRIDGE TO RAMSEY ROAD. THE THIRD PROJECT WILL BE TO REHABILITATE 47 LANE MILES NEAR UKIAH FROM THE RUSSIAN RIVER BRIDGE TO NORTH OF THE ROBINSON CREEK BRIDGE. THE $22 MILLION COST FOR THE PROJECTS IS BEING COVERED BY THE STATES NEWLY ADOPTED ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM.

TRUCKS MOVING DREDGE FILL TO THE COAST TRAIL (PI/TR) JB 9/12/14

A PARADE OF TRUCKS LOADED WITH DREDGE FILL FOR THE COAST TRAIL PROJECT HAS BEEN MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH FT BRAGG.

THE LARGE DOUBLE BOTTOM TRUCKS HAVE BEEN MAKING AN AVERAGE OF 150 TO 160 TRIPS DAILY FROM NOYO HARBOR TO THE COASTAL TRAILS PROJECT SITE. A TOTAL OF 24,000 CUBIC YARDS OF DREDGE FILL IS BEING USED IN THE TRAIL PROJECT TO RESTORE 20 ACRES OF PREVIOUSLY ASPHALT-COVERED LAND. THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF MOVING ALL THE FILL MATERIAL TO THE PROJECT SITE IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN TWO WEEKS.

MENDOCINO COUNTY PARTICIPATES IN DISASTER PREP (LAW/PI) JB 9/12/14

MENDOCINO COUNTY OFFICIALS AND SHERIFF TOM ALLMAN ARE LOOKING TO THE PUBLIC TO BE BETTER PREPARED FOR FUTURE NATURAL DISASTERS OR EMERGENCIES.

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MONTH AND BOTH THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE AND THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES IS TAKING PART IN PROGRAM CALLED 30 WAYS, 30 DAYS. THE PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE A DIFFERENT TIP ON DISASTER PREPARATION EACH DAY ON THE SHERIFFS OFFICE SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES. TO ENCOURAGE THE PUBLICS PARTICIPATION, AN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS GAME IS ALSO PART OF THE PROGRAM WITH DAILY WINNERS RECEIVING EMERGENCY PREP KITS. IN THE WAKE OF THE LODGE FIRE AND NAPA EARTHQUAKE, THE SHERIFF WANTS EVERYONE TO REALIZE THAT BEING PREPARED FOR SUCH EMERGENCIES IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

FIRE BREAKS OUT FROM CAR CRASH ON COBB MOUNTAIN (LAW) JB 9/12/14

FIREFIGHTERS WERE WORKING TO CONTAIN A SMALL WILDLAND FIRE ON COBB MOUNTAIN YESTERDAY.

THE FIRE WAS FIRST REPORTED JUST BEFORE 4:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND MAY HAVE BEEN SPARKED BY A VEHICLE CRASH ON FAWN COURT. THE AREA OF THE FIRE IS THICK WITH HEAVY, DRY VEGETATION BUT, LUCKILY, THERE WERE NO AFTERNOON WINDS DRIVING THE BLAZE. FIRE CREWS FROM THE LAKE COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT AND KELSEYVILLE FIRE RESPONDED TO THE FIRE, WITH A CAL FIRE AIR TANKER ON STANDBY AS A CONTINGENCY. AS OF LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, NEARBY GIFFORD SPRINGS ROAD REMAINED OPEN.

FUNDS RECEIVED FOR COVELO TRANSPORTATION PROJECT (TR) JB 9/12/14

STATE FUNDING HAS BEEN RECEIVED FOR A NEW TRANSPORTATION PROJECT TO IMPROVE SAFETY IN COVELO.

A GRANT FROM THE STATES NEW ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM OF $847,000 HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE MENDOCINO COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS TO COMPLETE THE STATE ROUTE 162 CORRIDOR MULTIPURPOSE TRAIL PROJECT. THE TRAIL PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE SAFETY FOR ALL FORMS OF TRAVEL ON THE CORRIDOR, INCLUDING PEDESTRIANS, BICYCLISTS AND VEHICLES. MULTIPLE TRAILS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED IN THE AREA PROVIDING SAFE ACCESS FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS TO A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS INCLUDING THE HEALTH CENTER, COMMERCE CENTER AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

INMATES HARVEST GRAPES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY (EMP) JB 9/12/14

A NEW PROGRAM INTRODUCED BY SHERIFF TOM ALLMAN EMPLOYS COUNTY JAIL INMATES TO WORK IN LOCAL VINEYARDS.

THE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM ALLOWS LOW-RISK INMATES TO PARTICIPATE IN SEASONAL WORK DURING THE GRAPE HARVESTS. VINEYARD OWNERS SAY THAT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO FIND ENOUGH SEASONAL WORKERS FOR GRAPE HARVESTS. THE NEW PROGRAM IS DESCRIBED BY OFFICIALS AS GOOD FOR EMPLOYERS, GOOD FOR THE INMATES AND GOOD FOR THE PUBLIC BECAUSE IT COULD HELP REHABILITATE LAW BREAKERS AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF REPEAT OFFENDERS. IF THE TRIAL PROGRAM IS SUCCESSFUL, SHERIFF ALLMAN SAID IT WOULD BE EXPANDED IN THE FUTURE.
