UKIAH VALLEY HOME INVASION SUSPECTS FACE JUDGE (LAW) JB 10/15/14

FOUR SUSPECTS REPORTEDLY INVOLVED IN A UKIAH VALLEY HOME INVASION LAST WEEK FACED A SONOMA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE ON FRIDAY.

THE FOUR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MEN, CHRISTOPHER MONTOYA, JOSE CABRERA, JONATHAN OTERO-CRUZ, AND FILOMINO NUNEZ, ALL ARE FACING MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES STEMMING FROM THE INCIDENT. ALL FOUR SUSPECTS WERE APPREHENDED NEAR GEYSERVILLE ON HIGHWAY 101 SHORTLY AFTER THE REPORTED INVASION ON REDEMEYER ROAD TOOK PLACE. EACH SUSPECTS BAIL AMOUNT WAS INCREASED TO $1 MILLION AT THE ARRAIGNMENT HEARING, AND THE FOUR ARE DUE BACK IN COURT TODAY TO ENTER PLEAS ON THE CHARGES AGAINST THEM.

RESIN TRUCK LOSES LID ON HIGHWAY 101 (LAW/TR) JB 10/15/14

A TRUCK TRANSPORTING RESIN ON HIGHWAY 101 LOST ITS LID YESTERDAY, SPLASHING SEVERAL CARS WITH THE STICKY SUBSTANCE.

THE MEYERS CONSTRUCTION TRUCK WAS HEADING SOUTHBOUND ON 101 FROM COVELO WHEN DRIVERS STARTED CALLING THE CHP TO COMPLAIN THAT THE TRUCK WAS SPILLING RESIN ON THE ROAD AND ON THEIR CARS. CHP AND THE REDWOOD EMPIRE HAZARDOUS INCIDENT TEAM RESPONDED TO THE INCIDENT AND WERE ABLE TO CAP THE LEAKING TRUCK, BUT RUINED SEVERAL PIECES OF EQUIPMENT IN THE PROCESS INCLUDING SEVERAL BREATHING APPARATUSES. THE TRUCKS DRIVER STATED HE WAS UNAWARE THAT THE LID WAS MISSING AND IT WAS UNKNOWN WHERE THE LID ENDED UP.

BOLES FIRE ARSON SUSPECT ARRESTED (LAW) JB 10/15/14

A RESIDENT OF WEED HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR ARSON IN CONNECTION WITH THE BOLES FIRE IN SISKIYOU COUNTY.

24 YEAR OLD RONALD BEAU MARSHALL WAS ARRESTED LAST SATURDAY AFTER A THREE WEEK JOINT INVESTIGATION BY THE WEED POLICE DEPARTMENT, SISKIYOU COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, AND CAL FIRE. MARSHALL HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE FELONY ARSON CHARGES AND HIS BAIL WAS SET AT $250,000. THE BOLES FIRE DESTROYED 516 ACRES, 157 HOMES, AND FORCED THE EVACUATION OF MORE THAN 4,000 PEOPLE. OVER 1,000 FIREFIGHTERS WERE ON THE FRONT LINES BATTLING THIS DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.

PALACE HOTEL ON UKIAH CITY COUNCIL AGENDA (GOV) JB 10/15/14

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL TONIGHT IS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS THE BELEAGUERED PALACE HOTEL REHABILITATION PROJECT.

CITY STAFF HAVE REVERSED THEIR POSITION ON HAVING A RECEIVER TAKE OVER THE PROCESS AND ARE NOW RECOMMENDING MONITORING PROGRESS BY THE HOTELS OWNER AS FAR AS MEETING ASSIGNED TASKS. THE THREE MAIN TASKS THAT ARE OF CONCERN TO THE COUNCIL INCLUDE SECURING THE BUILDING FROM VANDALISM AND WEATHER, PROOF OF A CONTRACT WITH BLUEWATER ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TO REMOVE EXISTING ASBESTOS ALONG WITH AN ESCROW ACCOUNT TO PAY THEM WITH, AND THE SUBMISSION OF AN ASBESTOS REMOVAL PLAN. THE COUNCIL WILL MEET TONIGHT AT 6 PM IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS AT 300 SEMINARY AVENUE.

COVERED CALIFORNIA TO DROP 10,000 APPLICANTS (GOV) JB 10/15/14

COVERED CALIFORNIA IS SET TO TERMINATE 10,000 COVERAGE APPLICANTS STATEWIDE FOR QUESTIONABLE CITIZENSHIP STATUS.

COVERED CALIFORNIA, THE STATE EQUIVALENT OF OBAMACARE OR THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, ANNOUNCED MONDAY THAT PRETERMINATION NOTICES ARE EXPECTED TO BE SENT OUT TO 10,474 APPLICANTS OR POLICY HOLDERS WHO WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY THEIR CITIZENSHIP OR IMMIGRATION STATUS. IN EARLY SEPTEMBER, COVERED CALIFORNIA INITIALLY SENT LETTERS TO 98,900 FAMILIES TO RESOLVE ELIGIBILITY INCONSISTENCIES IN THEIR 2014 ENROLLMENT DOCUMENTS. THE NOTICES WILL PROVIDE INDIVIDUALS INFORMATION ABOUT COVERAGE REINSTATEMENT SHOULD LEGAL CITIZEN STATUS BE PRESENTED.

TWO COASTAL MEN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT (LAW) JB 10/15/14

AN ATTACK ON A POINT ARENA MAN LAST WEEK LED TO THE ARREST OF TWO COASTAL MEN FOR ASSAULT.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO THE GARCIA RIVER CASINO IN POINT ARENA LAST WEEK TO THE REPORT OF A FIGHT. DEPUTIES CONTACTED ONE MALE ADULT VICTIM WHO HAD SUSTAINED MAJOR TRAUMA TO HIS HEAD AND UPPER BODY REQUIRING MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE VICTIM REPORTED THAT HE HAD BEEN AT A BIRTHDAY PARTY WHEN HE WAS ATTACKED BY SEVERAL MAN WHO FLED BEFORE THE DEPUTIES ARRIVED. AN INVESTIGATION CONCLUDED THAT 22-YEAR-OLD MARCOS ESCARENO OF MANCHESTER AND 22 YEAR OLD RICHIE COBARRUBIA OF POINT ARENA WERE AMONG THE ATTACKERS. THE TWO MEN WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES.

FIREFIGHTERS MAKE PROGRESS ON WILDLAND FIRES (LAW) JB 10/15/14

FIREFIGHTERS ARE MAKING PROGRESS ON SEVERAL MAJOR WILDLAND FIRES ACROSS THE STATE.

STATE FIRE OFFICIALS STATED THAT LAST WEEKS HOTTER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS CONTRIBUTED TO MORE THAN 100 NEW FIRES ACROSS CALIFORNIA. DESPITE THE HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS, CAL FIRES LATEST FIRE SITUATION REPORT STATED THAT FIREFIGHTERS HAVE CONTINUED TO MAKE PROGRESS ON THE LARGEST OF THE INCIDENTS. THIS WEEKS RAIN SHOULD HELP FIREFIGHTERS IN THEIR BATTLE AGAINST THE STATES TWO BIGGEST FIRES, INCLUDING THE APPLEGATE FIRE IN PLACER COUNTY AND THE HAPPY CAMP COMPLEX IN SISKIYOU COUNTY.

CONGRESSMAN HUFFMAN IS SET TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON SEVERAL TOPICS IN WILLITS TODAY.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT SECOND DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN JARED HUFFMAN WILL BE ANSWERING QUESTIONS FOR THOSE IN ATTENDANCE DURING THE COFFEE WITH YOUR CONGRESSMAN EVENT THIS MORNING. HUFFMAN HELD A SIMILAR EVENT OVER THE SUMMER WHERE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ASKED QUESTIONS RELATED TO MARIJUANA IN MENDOCINO COUNTY, THE WILLITS BYPASS, AND OVERSEAS TERRORISM, TO NAME A FEW. THE EVENT WILL BE HELD FROM 8:30-10 AM TODAY AT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY MUSEUM.
