COURT GRANTS MEASURE N PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION (LOW) JB 10/16/14

A FEDERAL COURT JUDGE HAS GRANTED A PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION AGAINST LAKE COUNTY AND ITS OFFICIALS IN THE CURRENT MEASURE N CASE.

A SAN FRANCISCO FEDERAL COURT ON TUESDAY GRANTED A PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION TO STOP LAKE COUNTY AND ITS OFFICIALS FROM PERFORMING WARRANTLESS ABATEMENT ACTIONS ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA PATIENTS. THE COURT STATED IN THE ORDER THAT THE PLAINTIFFS HAD MET THEIR BURDEN IN SHOWING THE NEED FOR THE INJUNCTION. THE COURT ONLY GRANTED THE INJUNCTION AGAINST LAKE COUNTY AND THE DEFENDANTS, INCLUDING THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE, ACTING IN THEIR OFFICIAL CAPACITIES RATHER THAN THEIR INDIVIDUAL CAPACITIES.

WOMAN AIRLIFTED FROM TUESDAY MORNING CRASH (LAW) JB 10/16/14

A VEHICLE CRASH NEAR CLEARLAKE OAKS TUESDAY MORNING SENT ONE WOMAN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MODERATE INJURIES.

CHP REPORTS STATE THAT THE CRASH INVOLVING A 1998 GMC PICKUP AND A 2010 PETERBILT SEMI OCCURRED JUST BEFORE 10 AM TUESDAY MORNING ON HIGHWAY 20 AT HILLSIDE DRIVE. THE PICKUP, DRIVEN BY 47-YEAR-OLD GEORGE WILDS, ATTEMPTED TO PASS THE SEMI OVER THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE. DURING THE PASS ATTEMPT, WILDS PICKUP CLIPPED THE SEMI, CAUSING THE PICKUP TO OVERTURN AND EXIT THE HIGHWAY. 50 YEAR OLD LEANNE WILDS SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES IN THE CRASH AND WAS FLOWN BY REACH AIR AMBULANCE TO KAISER IN VACAVILLE.

BAY AREA FAULT SECTIONS ARE READY FOR A QUAKE (EVR) JB 10/16/14

SEVERAL URBAN SECTIONS OF THE SAN ANDREAS FAULT SYSTEM IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA HAVE STORED ENOUGH ENERGY TO PRODUCE MAJOR EARTHQUAKES.

THREE FAULT SECTIONS HAYWARD, RODGERS CREEK, AND GREEN VALLEY ARE NEARING OR PAST THEIR AVERAGE RECURRENCE INTERVAL ACCORDING TO A STUDY PUBLISHED IN THE BULLETIN OF THE SEISMOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA. THE STUDY MEASURES FAULT CREEP, THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE FAULTS THAT RELEASES PRESSURE ON THE PLATES, WHEN NO FAULT CREEP OCCURS, A FAULT IS CONSIDERED LOCKED AND STRESS WILL BUILD UNTIL RELEASED BY AN EARTHQUAKE. ACCORDING TO THE STUDY, THE FAULT SECTIONS HAVE ACCUMULATED ENOUGH STRAIN TO PRODUCE A MAJOR EARTHQUAKE.

WILLITS DUI CRASH DRIVER CHARGED WITH FELONIES (LAW) JB 10/16/14

A UKIAH WOMAN INVOLVED IN A FATAL CRASH IN AUGUST IS NOW FACING FELONY CHARGES STEMMING FROM THE INCIDENT.

20 YEAR OLD MARY BROWN-STEELE HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY CHARGED WITH SUSPICION OF GROSS VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER WHILE INTOXICATED AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE CAUSING BODILY INJURY. BROWN-STEELE WAS THE DRIVER IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF AN 18 YEAR OLD UKIAH MAN ON AUGUST 14. THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE CONFIRMED BOTH FELONY CHARGES AND A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET FOR OCTOBER 27 IN MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT.

MONTHLY TSUNAMI SIREN TESTING ON THE COAST (LAW) JB 10/16/14

MONTHLY TESTING OF THE TSUNAMI WARNING SYSTEM ON THE COAST WILL BEGIN NEXT MONTH.

BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, AND THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH THEREAFTER, THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES WILL TEST THE TSUNAMI SIRENS IN FT BRAGG AND POINT ARENA. THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES WILL CONDUCT THE MONTHLY TESTING OF THE TSUNAMI SIRENS SYSTEM TO HELP ENSURE THE FUNCTIONALITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE SYSTEM. WHEN THE SIRENS ARE NOT USED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD THEY CAN CORRODE, POSSIBLY CAUSING FAILURE. THE MONTHLY TESTS LESSENS THE LIKELIHOOD THAT CORROSION WILL TAKE PLACE.

2ND TEXAS HEATH WORKER TESTS POSITIVE FOR EBOLA (PI) JB 10/16/14

A SECOND TEXAS HEALTH WORKER HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE DEADLY EBOLA VIRUS.

THE EBOLA CRISIS IN THE U.S. TOOK ANOTHER ALARMING TURN WEDNESDAY WITH WORD THAT A SECOND DALLAS NURSE CAUGHT THE DISEASE FROM A PATIENT AND FLEW ACROSS THE MIDWEST ABOARD AN AIRLINER THE DAY BEFORE SHE FELT ILL, EVEN THOUGH GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES SHOULD HAVE KEPT HER OFF THE PLANE. AMID GROWING CONCERN, PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA CANCELED A CAMPAIGN TRIP TO ADDRESS THE OUTBREAK AND VOWED THAT HIS ADMINISTRATION WOULD RESPOND IN A MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE WAY TO EBOLA CASES IN THE UNITED STATES.

LAKE COUNTY SAMPLE BALLOTS CONTAIN ERRORS (GOV) JB 10/16/14

NEW SAMPLE BALLOTS ARE BEING ISSUED IN LAKE COUNTY DUE TO ERRORS IN THE ORIGINAL BOOKLETS.

THE LAKE COUNTY REGISTRAR OF VOTERS OFFICE SAID THAT NEW SAMPLE BALLOT BOOKLETS AND SUPPLEMENTAL BOOKLETS ARE BEING SENT TO VOTERS AFTER PRINTING ERRORS WERE DISCOVERED. THE ERRORS WERE MADE BY THE PRINTING VENDOR CONTRACTED BY THE REGISTRARS OFFICE. VOTERS RECEIVING A REPLACEMENT SAMPLE BALLOT BOOKLET SHOULD DESTROY THEIR FIRST SAMPLE BALLOT DUE TO THE INCORRECT INFORMATION.

DEPUTY SHERIFFS ASSOC. AGREEMENT APPROVED (GOV/LAW) JB 10/16/14

AN AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED BETWEEN THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS ASSOCIATION.

THE RECORD BEE REPORTED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY ON TUESDAY TO APPROVE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE LAKE COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFFS ASSOCIATION. THE MEMORANDUM BETWEEN LAKE COUNTY AND THE DSA WAS REACHED AFTER MORE THAN 10 MONTHS OF NEGOTIATION, WITH SIGNIFICANT COMPROMISES MADE ON BOTH SIDES. ONE KEY POINT IS THAT THE COUNTY HAS COMMITTED FUNDING TO OFFSET RISING EMPLOYEE HEATH CARE COSTS WITH A HEALTHCARE STIPEND.
