UKIAH CITY COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS (GOV) JB 11/5/14

AFTER YESTERDAYS GENERAL ELECTION, THE VOTERS IN UKIAH HAVE SPOKEN AND IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS TO BE A CHANGING OF THE GUARD IN THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL.

WITH 100 PERCENT OF THE 35 PRECINCTS REPORTING IN LAST NIGHT, THREE NEW MEMBERS OF UKIAH CITY COUNCIL HAVE BEEN CHOSEN. JIM O. BROWN WAS THE TOP VOTE GETTER, RECEIVING 20.42 PERCENT OF VOTES CAST. KEVIN DOBLE RECEIVED 17.11 PERCENT WITH MAUREEN MO MULHEREN RIGHT BEHIND HIM WITH 15.91 PERCENT OF THE VOTES CAST. INCUMBENT AND CURRENT UKIAH MAYOR, PHIL BALDWIN, RECEIVED 13.47 OF THE VOTES, PUTTING HIM JUST OUT OF THE TOP THREE POSITIONS. RESULTS OF LAST NIGHTS ELECTION WILL BE CERTIFIED AT THE COMPLETION OF THE OFFICIAL CANVASS.

PROPOSITION VOTES FOLLOW STATE RESULTS (GOV) JB 11/5/14

THE LOCAL RESULTS FOR THE STATEWIDE PROPOSITIONS ON YESTERDAYS BALLOT FOLLOW THE VOTING TRENDS ACROSS THE STATE.

PROPOSITION 1, AUTHORIZING OVER $7.5 BILLION IN BONDS FOR STATE WATER SUPPLY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, PASSED STATEWIDE WITH A RESOUNDING 66.8 PERCENT YES VOTE, WITH A 54.28 PERCENT YES VOTE LOCALLY. PROPOSITION 2, THE STATE BUDGET STABILIZATION AMENDMENT, ALSO PASSED WITH A STRONG 68.7 PERCENT YES VOTE STATEWIDE WITH 62.13 YES VOTES LOCALLY. PROPOSITION 45, THE HEALTHCARE INSURANCE RATE CHANGE INITIATIVE, WAS DEFEATED STATEWIDE WITH A 59.8 PERCENT NO VOTE AND A 53.03 PERCENT NO VOTE LOCALLY. PROP 46, REQUIRING DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTS FOR DOCTORS AND INCREASING MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE LAWSUIT AWARDS WAS ALSO DEFEATED WITH A 67.2 NO VOTE STATEWIDE AND 67 PERCENT LOCAL NO VOTE. PROP 47, REQUIRING MISDEMEANOR OFFENSES INSTEAD OF FELONIES FOR CERTAIN DRUG AND PROPERTY OFFENSES PASSED WITH 58.5 PERCENT YES VOTES STATEWIDE AND A SOUND 69.83 LOCAL YES VOTES. AND PROP 48, THE INDIAN GAMING REFERENDUM, WAS DEFEATED WITH A 60.9 PERCENT NO VOTE STATEWIDE AND A NEARLY MATCHING 60.93 LOCAL NO VOTE. LOCALLY, MEASURE P, EXTENDING THE HALF PERCENT SALES TAX TO HELP FUND LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES, PASSED WITH A RESOUNDING 74.54 PERCENT YES VOTE AND MEASURE S, THE ANTI-FRACKING ORDINANCE, PASSED WITH A 67.18 PERCENT YES VOTE.

SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS LEAD POLICE ON CHASE (LAW) JB 11/5/14

TWO BAY AREA MEN WERE ARRESTED SATURDAY FOR ALLEGED DRUG POSSESSION AFTER LEADING OFFICERS ON A HIGH- SPEED CHASE.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS FIRST RESPONDED TO A REPORTED FIGHT AT AN ADDRESS ON WABASH AVENUE AROUND MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY AND LEARNED THE SUSPECTS HAD FLED IN A GRAY PICK-UP TRUCK. OFFICERS SPOTTED THE TRUCK ON SOUTH STATE STREET, BUT THE SUSPECTS FLED AND A HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT ENSUED WITH THE TRUCK REACHING SPEEDS OF 80MPH, CROSSING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND RUNNING SEVERAL STOPLIGHTS. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED ENTER SOUTHBOUND HIGHWAY 101 BUT LOST CONTROL, FISHTAILING, AND TWICE HITTING A PURSUING POLICE CAR. THE SUSPECTS, 39 YEAR OLD JACOB SILVERMAN AND 41 YEAR OLD DANNY RAMOS FLED ON FOOT BUT WERE SOON APPREHENDED. DURING THE PURSUIT, RAMOS HAD TOSSED A BAG OUT OF THE TRUCK CONTAINING TWO POUNDS OF POT AND TWO OUNCES OF METH AND BOTH SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION RESULTS (GOV) JB 11/5/14

AFTER IT WAS ALL SAID AND DONE AT YESTERDAYS ELECTION, GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN WILL REMAIN IN OFFICE FOR ANOTHER TERM.

THE GOVERNOR INCUMBENT RECEIVED 58.7 PERCENT OF THE VOTES CAST ACROSS THE STATE, DEFEATING NEEL KASHKARI. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOME ALSO RETAINED HIS POSITION IN OFFICE, RECEIVING 55.9 PERCENT OF THE VOTES AND DEFEATING RON NEHRING. IN A BACK AND FORTH RACE ALL NIGHT LONG FOR SECRETARY OF STATE, ALEX PADILLA DEFEATED PETE PETERSON WITH 52.5 PERCENT OF THE VOTES. BETTY YEE WILL REMAIN AS STATE CONTROLLER, JOHN CHIANG AS TREASURER, AND KAMALA HARRIS RETAINS HER POSITION AS STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL, ALL DEFEATING THEIR OPPONENTS IN LAST NIGHTS ELECTION. LOCALLY, WARREN GALLETTI DEFEATED PAUL JOENS-POULTON FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS AND TOM WOODHOUSE DEFEATED HOLLY MADRIGAL FOR THE POSITION OF 3RD DISTRICT SUPERVISOR.

LAKE COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS (GOV) JB 11/5/14

VOTERS IN LAKE COUNTY DEFEATED TWO MARIJUANA MEASURES AND MADE THEIR CHOICES FOR TWO NEW MEMBERS OF THE CLEARLAKE CITY COUNCIL.

IN THE RACE OF THE TWO OPEN SEATS ON THE CLEARLAKE CITY COUNCIL, BRUNO SABATIER WAS THE TOP VOTE GETTER, RECEIVING 25.7 PERCENT OF THE VOTES CAST. RUSSEL PERDOCK TOOK THE SECOND SPOT WITH 20.4 PERCENT. TWO NEW MEMBERS OF THE LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL WERE ALSO CHOSEN WITH MIREYA GEHRING TURNER AND STACY MATTINA BOTH RECEIVING 37.5 PERCENT OF THE VOTES, WHILE MICHAEL BALLENTINE RECEIVED ONLY 25 PERCENT. MEASURE O, THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA CONTROL ACT WAS DEFEATED WITH 63.5 PERCENT NO VOTES AND MEASURE P, THE FREEDOM TO GROW AND USE NATURAL PLANTS MEASURE ALSO SAW DEFEAT, RECEIVING 68 PERCENT NO VOTES. MEASURE R, THE HALF PERCENT SALES TAX IN CLEARLAKE TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO HELP CITYWIDE CLEANUP AND IMPROVEMENT PASSED WITH A 53.3 PERCENT YES VOTE AND MEASURE S, THE HALF PERCENT HEALTHY LAKE SALES TAX ALSO PASSED WITH A 63 PERCENT YES VOTE. MEASURE T, THE LAKEPORT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND MEASURE PASSED WITH A SOLID 64.2 PERCENT OF THE VOTES CAST IN LAST NIGHTS ELECTION.

ARCHAEOLOGY SERVICES APPROVED BY LAKE BOARD (GOV) JB 11/5/14

AN AGREEMENT FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL SERVICES FOR THE COLE CREEK BRIDGE REPLACEMENT WAS APPROVED BY THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.

THE RECORD BEE REPORTED THAT THE AGREEMENT, WHICH TOTALS $219,000, WITH BERKELEY-BASED PACIFIC LEGACY, INC. WILL INCLUDE THE COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF ANY MATERIALS FOUND DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THE PROJECT. THE COUNTY ANTICIPATED A NEED FOR SUCH SERVICES AS THE STRUCTURE IS CURRENTLY SITTING ON A KNOWN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE. IN ADDITION TO NATIONAL OBLIGATIONS, THE PROJECT HAD TO MEET STATE AND TRIBAL RULES, AS WELL. THE CONTRACT WILL PAY FOR THE SERVICES OF A LITHIC SPECIALIST, ARCHAEOLOGICAL TECHNICIANS, A PALEOBOTANIST, AS WELL AS VARIOUS SUPERVISORS. THE BOARD APPROVED THE CONTRACT WITH A 4-0 VOTE.
