A CAL/OSHA SPOKESMAN CONFIRMED FRIDAY THAT THE ASBESTOS PLAN HAD BEEN APPROVED, BUT THE RED TAGS WOULD NOT BE REMOVED UNTIL THE CONTRACTOR WAS READY TO BEGIN WORK.

DFW OFFICERS ARREST 3 MEN FOR ABALONE POACHING (LAW) JB 11/10/14

THREE SAN FRANCISCO MEN WERE ARRESTED IN POSSESSION OF 59 ILLEGALLY HARVESTED ABALONE.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE OFFICERS NOTICED A SUSPICIOUS VAN LAST WEEK PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD NEAR THE TOWN OF ELK. THE OFFICERS WITNESSED TWO DIVERS IN THE WATER NEAR WHERE THE VAN WAS PARKED TAKING GROSS OVERLIMITS OF ABALONE, HIDING THEIR HARVEST ON THE SHORE. AFTER ALLOWING THE MEN TO GATHER THEIR CATCH AND LEAVE THE SCENE, OFFICERS CONTACTED THE SUSPECTS AT THEIR SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENCE. ALL 59 ABALONE, THEIR VAN, AND DIVE GEAR WERE SEIZED AND THE MEN WERE ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

HORSES KILLED ON HIGHWAY 20 THURSDAY NIGHT (LAW) JB 11/10/14

FOUR HORSES THAT GOT LOOSE ON HIGHWAY 20 LATE THURSDAY NIGHT DIED AFTER BEING HIT BY VEHICLES.

ACCORDING TO CHP REPORTS, THE INCIDENT WAS FIRST REPORTED JUST AFTER 10:30 THURSDAY NIGHT ON HIGHWAY 20 ALONG CACHE CREEK, EAST OF CLEARLAKE OAKS. A LARGE NUMBER OF HORSES HAD SOMEHOW GOTTEN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY FROM A NEARBY RANCH. TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES, TRAVELING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS, WERE INVOLVED IN CRASHES WITH THE FOUR HORSES THAT DIED, SHUTTING DOWN THE HIGHWAY TO ONE WAY TRAFFIC FOR NEARLY TWO HOURS.

WATER MAIN BREAK REPORTED IN CLEARLAKE OAKS (PI) JB 11/10/14

A CLEARLAKE OAKS COUNTY WATER DISTRICT CREW WAS HARD AT WORK EARLY SATURDAY MORNING REPAIRING A BROKEN WATER MAIN THAT OCCURRED FRIDAY NIGHT.

THE WATER DISTRICT CONFIRMED THAT WATER MAIN BREAK IN THE AREA OF FOURTH STREET, OCCURRED SHORTLY BEFORE MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY NIGHT. THE BROKEN MAIN FLOODED WATER UP TO SECOND STREET, CAUSING RESIDENTS IN THE AREA TO MOVE THEIR CARS TO AVOID WATER DAMAGE. RESIDENTS IN THE AREA WERE BEING ADVISED BY WATER DISTRICT STAFF ON SCENE TO BOIL WATER FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

IRS SCAMMERS CONTINUE RIPOFFS IN THE AREA (LAW) JB 11/10/14

A WILLITS WOMAN LOST $6,000 TO AN AGGRESSIVE SCAMMER CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE.

THE CALLER IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS AN IRS AGENT ON SUNDAY AND TOLD THE WOMAN SHE OWED THE GOVERNMENT TAXES. THE VICTIM WAS TOLD THAT IF SHE DIDNT PAY IMMEDIATELY WITH PREPAID VISA CARDS, HE WOULD SEND A U.S. MARSHALL TO ARREST HER THAT DAY. AFTER MORE THAN 20 CALLS, THE WOMAN COMPLIED AND PUT $6,000 ON PREPAID E-CARDS AND PROVIDED THE SCAMMERS WITH THE PIN NUMBERS. BY THE TIME LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS NOTIFIED, THE MONEY WAS GONE. THIS IS ONE OF THE LARGEST SCAMS EVER, WITH THE IRS RECEIVING 20,000 COMPLAINTS FROM TAXPAYERS SAYING THEY HAD BEEN SCAMMED OUT OF OVER $1 MILLION THIS YEAR.

COUPLE ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED PURSUIT (LAW) JB 11/10/14

A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT IN KELSEYVILLE LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A COUPLE AND THE SEIZURE OF MARIJUANA AND METHAMPHETAMINE.

A PATROL DEPUTY WORKING THE KELSEYVILLE AREA NOTICED A MOTORCYCLE WITH TWO OCCUPANTS WHO FAILED TO STOP AT THE INTERSECTION OF CAL PACKING AND FINLEY ROAD EAST. THE MOTORCYCLE FAILED TO PULL OVER WHEN THE OFFICER ACTIVATED HIS LIGHTS AND ACCELERATED AWAY TRYING TO AVOID THE OFFICER. THE DEPUTY REPORTED THAT THE PASSENGER WAS THROWING NARCOTICS AND PARAPHERNALIA FROM THE MOTORCYCLE DURING THE PURSUIT. THE MOTORCYCLE FINALLY PULLED OVER ON MARINA DRIVE AND 43-YEAR-OLD LONNIE RAY SCOTT AND 48 YEAR OLD MICHELLE HAVENS WERE FOUND IN POSSESSION OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF BOTH MARIJUANA AND METHAMPHETAMINE. THE COUPLE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

GUN ALLEGEDLY PULLED IN ROAD RAGE INCIDENT (LAW) JB 11/10/14

A DRIVER, NEARLY STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, WAS THREATENED WITH A GUN LAST WEEK.

ACCORDING TO UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS, OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE INTERSECTION OF NORTH PINE AND ARLINGTON STREETS, WHEN A DRIVER REPORTED HAVING A GUN PULLED ON HIM AFTER A NEAR COLLISION. THE VICTIM TOLD OFFICERS HE HAD ALMOST BEEN STRUCK BY A NEWER MODEL SILVER HONDA AND THAT HE GOT OUT OF HIS CAR TO CONFRONT THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. A PASSENGER IN THE HONDA POINTED A HANDGUN AT THE VICTIM AND TOLD HIM TO RETURN TO HIS VEHICLE OR HE WOULD BE SHOT. THE SUSPECTS THEN FLED THE SCENE AND OFFICERS WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THEM.

MENDOCINO COLLEGE LOOKS AT EASEMENT (ED) JB 11/10/14

MENDOCINO COLLEGE MAY SEEK AN EASEMENT FOR ITS COASTAL RESEARCH STATION.

THE PRESS DEMOCRAT REPORTED THAT MENDOCINO COLLEGE OFFICIALS HAVE BACKED AWAY FROM A CONTROVERSIAL PROPOSAL TO SELL A 15-ACRE FIELD RESEARCH STATION TO THE U.S. BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT. INSTEAD, THE COLLEGE BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS DECIDED TO EXPLORE KEEPING THE FACILITY AND SELLING ONLY A CONSERVATION EASEMENT IN ORDER TO PERMANENTLY SHIELD THE LAND FROM DEVELOPMENT. WITH AN EASEMENT, THE COLLEGE WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR A DISCOUNT ON ITS PROPERTY TAXES AND COULD CONTINUE TO UTILIZE BUILDINGS ON THE SITE FOR RESEARCH. THE TENTATIVE DECISION, MADE LAST WEEK, WAS BASED ON A COMMITTEES RECOMMENDATION FOLLOWING SEVERAL MONTHS OF MEETINGS AND GATHERING INPUT FROM THOSE INTERESTED IN RETAINING THE PROPERTY FOR RESEARCH
