PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVES FORD ST HOUSES (GOV) JB 11/20/14

A PLAN TO ADD FOUR MORE HOMES ON FORD STREET HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION.

THE MEMBERS OF THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION WERE DEFINITELY DIVIDED ON THEIR OPINIONS OF THE PROPOSED HOUSING PROJECT TO BUILD FOUR NEW HOMES IN THE 100 BLOCK OF FORD STREET. COMMISSIONER LINDA SANDERS SAW NO BENEFITS IN THE PROJECT TO THE COMMUNITY, ONLY TO THE DEVELOPER AND THE CITY. COMMISSIONER JUDY PRUDEN WAS CONCERNED ABOUT ADDING MORE PEOPLE TO AN ALREADY CROWDED NEIGHBORHOOD, ALTHOUGH SHE DID STATE THAT THE DESIGN OF THE HOUSES IS ATTRACTIVE AND FITS THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE COMMISSION APPROVED THE PROJECT WITH A 3-2 VOTE AND IT WILL NOW GO BEFORE THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL FOR FINAL APPROVAL.

MAN ARRESTED FOR FIRING GUN DURING TRAFFIC STOP (LAW) JB 11/20/14

A MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER FIRING A SHOTGUN DURING A TRAFFIC STOP IN WILLITS.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO TAYLORS TAVERN MONDAY EVENING TO A REPORT OF A MAN SITTING IN A PICKUP TRUCK WITH A SHOTGUN TO HIS HEAD. AS DEPUTIES WERE EN ROUTE, THE MAN LEFT IN HIS TRUCK AND HEADED NORTH ON HIGHWAY 101 TOWARDS WILLITS. A CHP OFFICER SPOTTED THE VEHICLE AND AS HE PULLED UP NEXT TO IT, THE OFFICER HEARD WHAT THOUGHT WAS A GUNSHOT AND OBSERVED THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW EXPLODE OUTWARD. THE SUSPECT WAS FINALLY STOPPED AT BROWNS CORNER IN WILLITS AND THE SUSPECT, 34 YEAR OLD KEVIN BOBBY NORTON OF WILLITS, WAS OBSERVED BLEEDING FROM HIS FACE AND CHEEK. NORTON ADMITTED HE INTENTIONALLY FIRED A SAWED-OFF SHOTGUN AT HIMSELF DURING THE PURSUIT. A 9MM HANDGUN WAS ALSO FOUND IN HIS TRUCK AND NORTON WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES AFTER BEING TREATED AT HOWARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL FOR MINOR INJURIES.

MCKINLEYVILLE MOM IN COURT WEDNESDAY (LAW) JB 11/20/14

THE MCKINLEYVILLE MOTHER CHARGED WITH THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF HER TWO CHILDREN HAD HER FIRST DAY IN COURT ON WEDNESDAY.

35-YEAR-OLD ATHENA RENEE DOYLE, WHO IS ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTING TO MURDER HER TWO CHILDREN WHEN SHE DROVE HER VEHICLE OF A CLIFF IN OCTOBER, HAS REPORTEDLY WAIVED HER RIGHT TO A PRELIMINARY HEARING IN THE CASE. A PUBLIC DEFENDER WAS APPOINTED TO REPRESENT DOYLE AS SHE FACES ARRAIGNMENT ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES ON DECEMBER 4 IN MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT. SHE IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL ON $500,000 BAIL.

ELECTION RESULTS EXPECTED BY THANKSGIVING DAY (GOV) JB 11/20/14

THE RESULTS FROM THE RECENT ELECTION IN MENDOCINO COUNTY ARE EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED BY THANKSGIVING DAY.

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY CLERK AND RECORDER STATED ON WEDNESDAY THAT HER DEPARTMENT IS CONTINUING TO WORK TOWARD AN OFFICIAL COUNT, BUT DID NOT SAY HOW MANY BALLOTS REMAINED TO BE COUNTED. THE ONGOING PROCESS ALSO INCLUDES BALANCING POLLING PLACE INVENTORIES, AUTHENTICATING PROVISIONAL BALLOTS, AND CHECKING MAIL-IN BALLOTS FOR DAMAGE. THE COUNTY CLERK CONFIRMED THAT BALANCING HAD BEEN COMPLETED AND THAT PROVISIONAL BALLOTS THAT HAVE BEEN AUTHENTICATED ARE READY TO BE COUNTED.

COURT UNPERSUADED BY COUNTY OFFICIALS IN CASE (LAW) JB 11/20/14

THE FEDERAL JUDGE IN THE MEASURE N CASE WAS UNPERSUADED BY LAKE COUNTY OFFICIALS ARGUMENTS IN THE CASE.

THE RECORD BEE REPORTED THAT IN THE FEDERAL LAWSUIT AGAINST LAKE COUNTY OFFICIALS ALLEGEDLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL RAIDS OF MARIJUANA GROWERS PROPERTY, JUDGE THELTON HENDERSON HAS ONCE AGAIN FOUND THE ARGUMENTS BY THE DEFENDANTS LACKING. THE COURT SIDED WITH THE PLAINTIFFS IN GRANTING A MOTION TO AMEND THEIR COMPLAINT. THE COURT FOUND THE DEFENDANTS ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE PLAINTIFFS MOTION WERE UNSUBSTANTIAL, AS THEY MERELY INCORPORATED ARGUMENTS FROM A PRIOR MOTION, SOME OF WHICH HAD ALREADY BEEN REJECTED BY THE COURT.

MOST WANTED MAN APPREHENDED IN CLEARLAKE (LAW) JB 11/20/14

A CALL TO A POLICE TIP LINE LED TO THE ARREST OF ONE OF SANTA ROSAS MOST WANTED IN CLEARLAKE.

34 YEAR OLD JEROME COLEMAN JR WAS APPREHENDED TUESDAY NIGHT BY CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS AFTER A CALLER ON THE TIP LINE TOLD POLICE HE WAS HIDING FROM THE LAW IN A HOME ON CRANDALL DRIVE IN CLEARLAKE. COLEMAN IS CONSIDERED AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE KUMI STREET GANG AND WAS WANTED ON A FELONY PAROLE WARRANT. THE KUMI STREET GANG HAS CLOSE ALLEGIANCE TO PRISON GANGS WITH A STRONG NETWORK THROUGHOUT RICHMOND, OAKLAND AND SAN FRANCISCO. COLEMAN IS THE SEVENTH PERSON ON SANTA ROSAS MOST WANTED LIST TO BE APPREHENDED SINCE MAY.

AUTHORITIES RELEASE NAME OF HWY 29 VICTIM (LAW) JB 11/20/14

NAPA COUNTY OFFICIALS HAVE RELEASED THE NAME OF THE WOMAN WHO DIED IN THE HIT AND RUN CRASH ON HIGHWAY 29.

THE NAPA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE IDENTIFIED THE WOMAN AS 57-YEAR-OLD MARIA BEJAR OF ROHNERT PARK. LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS FOUND BEJAR SUNDAY MORNING LYING IN THE ROADWAY ON HIGHWAY 29 NEAR OLD LAWLY TOLL ROAD, SUFFERING FROM MAJOR INJURIES. SHERIFFS INVESTIGATORS AND THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THE HIT AND RUN AND ARE WANTING TO SPEAK TO ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE TRAVELED THAT STRETCH OF HIGHWAY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING OR WHO MAY HAVE SEEN BEJAR ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

NEW POSTMASTER NAMED IN LAKEPORT (GOV) JB 11/2014

THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE HAS NAMED A NEW POSTMASTER FOR THE CITY OF LAKEPORT.

THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE HAS NAMED MARIA LANE AS THE NEW POSTMASTER FOR LAKEPORT, MAKING HER THE FIRST FEMALE POSTMASTER FOR THE CITY IN 100 YEARS. THE PREVIOUS FEMALE POSTMASTER FOR THE CITY OF LAKEPORT WAS MYRTLE HAYCOCK IN 1914. LANE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 5,807 DELIVERIES IN THE CITY AND, WITH 17 EMPLOYEES, SHE SERVES 10 CARRIER ROUTES AND 1,234 POST OFFICE BOXES. LANE, WHO WAS MOST RECENTLY POSTMASTER OF UPPER LAKE, WILL BE SWORN IN AT A CEREMONY BEGINNING AT 4 PM TOMORROW AT THE LAKEPORT POST OFFICE ON 11TH STREET.
