POT LAWYERS REQUEST FOR COUNTY RECORDS DENIED (LAW) JB 11/25/14

DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF DOCUMENTS REQUESTED, THE COUNTY COUNSELS OFFICE REJECTED MOST OF THE PRA REQUEST BECAUSE THE INFORMATION REQUESTED CLEARLY OUTWEIGHS ANY DEMONSTRATED NEED FOR IT, MAKING IT EXEMPT.

ROBBERY ATTEMPT AT UKIAH WALGREENS (LAW) JB 11/25/14

AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT ATTEMPTED TO ROB THE WALGREENS IN UKIAH LAST WEEK.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO WALGREENS ON EAST PERKINS LAST THURSDAY TO THE REPORT OF A ROBBERY THAT HAD JUST OCCURRED. OFFICERS LEARNED THAT A MALE SUBJECT WEARING A MASK ENTERED THE STORE AND WENT DIRECTLY TO THE CASHIER AND DEMANDED MONEY. AFTER MAKING SEVERAL MORE THREATS, THE SUSPECT FLED WITHOUT OBTAINING ANY MONEY. POLICE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN LOCATING THE SUSPECT, WHO IS DESCRIBED AS MALE, 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, APPROXIMATELY 120 POUNDS LAST SEEN WEARING A GREY SWEATSHIRT, BLACK PANTS AND BLACK SHOES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL THE UPD AT 463-6262.

DOLLAR GENERAL LOOKING AT MORE LOCATIONS (ECN) JB 11/25/14

DOLLAR GENERAL IS LOOKING TO EXPAND WITH MORE STORES IN LAKE COUNTY.

THE LAKE COUNTY NEWS REPORTED THAT WITH TWO STORES ALREADY UNDER CONSTRUCTION ON THE NORTHSHORE, DOLLAR GENERAL IS IN THE PROCESS OF EXPLORING THREE ADDITIONAL RETAIL LOCATIONS IN LAKE COUNTY. DOLLAR GENERAL CORP, A SMALL BOX RETAILER BASED IN TENNESSEE, IS BUILDING ITS FIRST STORES IN LAKE COUNTY IN CLEARLAKE OAKS AND NICE. WHILE THE COMPANY HASNT COMMITTED TO ANY NEW LOCATIONS, THEY ARE ACTIVELY LOOKING AT PROPERTIES IN KELSEYVILLE, MIDDLETOWN AND IN LOCH LOMOND. THE STORE IN NICE IS SET TO OPEN IN FEBRUARY, WITH THE CLEARLAKE OAKS STORE SLATED TO OPEN IN LATE SPRING OF 2015.

CAL FIRE ANNOUNCES THE END OF FIRE SEASON (LAW) JB 11/25/14

CAL FIRES MENDOCINO UNIT HAS OFFICIALLY TRANSITIONED OUT OF THE 2014 FIRE SEASON.

THE MENDOCINO UNIT OF CAL FIRE ANNOUNCED THAT RECENT RAINS AND COOLER TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION HAVE LOWERED THE THREAT OF WILDFIRES. RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO STILL TAKE PRECAUTIONS OUTDOORS IN ORDER TO PREVENT SPARKING A WILDFIRE. LANDOWNERS ARE REMINDED THAT BEFORE BURNING TO ENSURE ITS A PERMISSIVE BURN DAY BY CONTACTING THE MENDOCINO COUNTY AIR MANAGEMENT DISTRICT AND TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY AND ALL REQUIRED BURN PERMITS ARE OBTAINED.

BROOKTRAILS V WILLITS LAWSUIT TOPS $1.25 MIL (LAW/ECN) JB 11/25/14

AN ONGOING LAWSUIT BETWEEN BROOKTRAILS AND WILLITS HAS COST $1.25 MILLION TO DATE.

THE WILLITS NEWS REPORTED THAT THE CITY OF WILLITS AND THE BROOKTRAILS COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT HAVE SPENT ABOUT $1.25 MILLION COMBINED IN AN ONGOING LEGAL BATTLE OVER THE SEWAGE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES. THE FOUR-YEAR LONG BATTLE BEGAN WITH BROOKTRAILS SUING WILLITS IN 2010 OVER A $292,000 BILL SENT TO BROOKTRAILS, CONSIDERED TO BE THEIR SHARE OF THE $750,000 WILLITS PAID TO PURCHASE 125 ACRES IN 2003. THE SUIT HAS EVOLVED BEYOND THIS INITIAL FILING TO INCLUDE HOW MUCH BROOKTRAILS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR WILLITS NEW $25 MILLION SEWER PLANT. THE INITIAL SUIT IS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD IN SONOMA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT IN APRIL 2015.

KELSEYVILLE GARAGE DESTROYED IN FIRE (LAW) JB 11/25/14

A GARAGE IN KELSEYVILLE WAS DESTROYED IN A FIRE FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

THE FIRE WAS FIRST REPORTED SHORTLY 12:00 PM ON FRIDAY AT AN ADDRESS ON PHARO PLACE IN KELSEYVILLE. UNITS FROM KELSEYVILLE FIRE, LAKEPORT FIRE AND CAL FIRE RESPONDED TO THE STRUCTURE THAT WAS FULLY INVOLVED. FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO CONFINE THE FIRE TO THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE, SPARING A NEARBY HOME FROM ANY DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED AND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY FIRE OFFICIALS.

CHP THANKSGIVING MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD (LAW) JB 11/25/14

THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL IS BEGINNING ITS MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY.

THE EXTENDED THANKSGIVING WEEKEND IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST TRAVEL PERIODS OF THE YEAR, RAISING THE RISK SERIOUS OR DEADLY TRAFFIC COLLISIONS. THE CHP WANTS TO ENCOURAGE TRAVELERS TO ALWAYS BUCKLE UP, AVOID DRIVING DISTRACTED AND NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. LAST YEAR, DURING THIS TIME, THE CHP ARRESTED MORE THAN 1,200 PEOPLE FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. THANKSGIVING IS A MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD FOR THE CHP. THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY REPORTING PERIOD BEGINS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26 AT 6 PM AND RUNS THROUGH SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, AT MIDNIGHT.

BUTLER STREET IN CLEARLAKE OAKS TO HAVE CLOSURES (TR) JB 11/25/14

THERE IS AN ONGOING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WITH ROAD CLOSURES IN CLEARLAKE OAKS THAT DRIVERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF.

BEGINNING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, AND CONTINUING THROUGH DECEMBER 31, BUTLER STREET IN CLEARLAKE OAKS WILL BE SUBJECT TO CLOSURE. THE ONGOING CLOSURE WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 7 AM TO 5 PM, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY TO ALLOW FOR LAMON CONSTRUCTION TO PERFORM WORK ON THE SEWER SYSTEM. SIGNS AND DETOURS WILL BE IN PLACE AND DRIVERS IN THE AREA SHOULD PLAN TO USE ALTERNATE ROUTES DURING THE HOURS OF CONSTRUCTION.
