SHERIFFS OFFICE, DEA RENEW EFFORT (LAW) JB 12/3/14

THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE HAS JOINED FORCES WITH THE DEA TO COMBAT DRUG TRAFFICKING.

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVED AN AGREEMENT LAST WEEK BETWEEN THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE, THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND THE DEA OAKLAND TASK FORCE GROUP. THE LAKE COUNTY INTERIM UNDERSHERIFF STATED THAT THE COOPERATIVE EFFORT IS TO ADDRESS LARGE SCALE MARIJUANA CULTIVATION IN LAKE COUNTY AND LARGE SCALE DRUG USE. AN EXPERIENCED LAKE COUNTY OFFICER HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO THE OAKLAND TASK FORCE TO AID IN THEIR EFFORTS TO GATHER AND REPORT INTELLIGENCE DATA RELATED TO DRUG TRAFFICKING, AS WELL AS CONDUCT UNDERCOVER OPERATIONS.

IRS RELEASES VIDEO WARNING OF TAX SCAM CALLERS (GOV) JB 12/3/14

THE IRS HAS RELEASED A VIDEO WARNING TAXPAYERS ABOUT THE ONGOING TAX SCAM PHONE CALLS.

AS INCIDENTS OF AN AGGRESSIVE TELEPHONE SCAM CONTINUE ACROSS THE COUNTRY, THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE HAS UNVEILED A YOUTUBE VIDEO WITH A RENEWED WARNING TO TAXPAYERS NOT TO BE FOOLED BY IMPOSTERS POSING AS TAX AGENCY REPRESENTATIVES. THE IRS LAST PUT OUT A WARNING ABOUT THE SCAMS IN APRIL, WHEN TAXES WERE INITIALLY DUE. THE WARNING HAS BEEN PUT OUT AGAIN SINCE THE OCTOBER TAX EXTENSION DEADLINE, AT WHICH TIME THE SCAMS APPEARED TO HAVE INCREASED AGAIN. THE IRS COMMISSIONER SAID THE AGENCY HAS CONTINUED TO SEE THE SCAM USED IN ALL PARTS OF THE UNITED STATES.

OFFICIALS DESIGNATE 35 HOSPITALS FOR EBOLA (GOV/PI) JB 12/3/14

FEDERAL HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE DESIGNATED 35 HOSPITALS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS EBOLA TREATMENT CENTERS.

FOR MORE THAN A MONTH, HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN TALKING TO, AND EVALUATING, HOSPITALS THAT COULD SERVE AS REFERRAL TREATMENT CENTERS FOR NEW EBOLA CASES THAT MIGHT OCCUR. A TEAM FROM CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION ASSESSED MORE THAN 50 HOSPITALS IN 15 STATES. THE 35 HOSPITALS CHOSEN ARE DEEMED TO HAVE THE STAFF, EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING TO SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY CARE FOR EBOLA. CALIFORNIA HOSPITALS ON THE LIST INCLUDE KAISER OAKLAND, KAISER SOUTH SACRAMENTO, UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER AND UCSF MEDICAL CENTER IN SAN FRANCISCO.

HIGHWAY 29 CLOSED NEAR LOWER LAKE FROM CRASH (LAW) JB 12/3/14

A HIT AND RUN VEHICLE CRASH RESULTED IN THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF HIGHWAY 29 YESTERDAY.

CHP OFFICERS RESPONDED TO SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT JUST AFTER 1:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN THE AREA OF THE GLASGOW GRADE ON HIGHWAY 29, NEAR SEIGLER CANYON ROAD OUTSIDE OF LOWER LAKE. A VEHICLE HAD STRUCK A UTILITY POLE AND THEN FLED THE SCENE, DOWNING THE POLE AND LIVE POWER LINES. PG&E WAS ASKED TO EXPEDITE THEIR RESPONSE TO THE INCIDENT AND THEIR ONLINE OUTAGE CENTER ATTRIBUTED OUTAGES IN KELSEYVILLE AND LOWER LAKE, AFFECTING APPROXIMATELY 112 CUSTOMERS. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED YET.

FORD STREET HOMES ON UKIAH COUNCIL AGENDA (GOV) JB 12/3/14

THE FOUR NEW HOMES PROPOSED FOR FORD STREET ARE NOW ON THE AGENDA OF THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER HE VOTED ON THE PROJECT AS A PLANNING COMMISSIONER, KEVIN DOBLE WILL CONSIDER A PLAN TO ADD FOUR MORE HOMES TO FORD STREET WEDNESDAY AS A NEWLY ELECTED MEMBER OF THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL. LAST MONTH, DOBLE AND THE REST OF THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION NARROWLY APPROVED A PLAN TO ADD FOUR MORE HOMES TO FORD STREET, PART OF THE ALREADY DENSELY POPULATED WAGENSELLER NEIGHBORHOOD. THE VOTE ONLY SERVED AS A RECOMMENDATION, AS THE CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER GRANTING APPROVAL TO THE PROJECT AT ITS MEETING TONIGHT AT 6 PM IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS.

STATE SEEKS INPUT ON GREENHOUSE GAS (GOV/EVR) JB 12/3/14

STATE OFFICIALS ARE SEEKING INPUT ON TRANSPORTATION-FOCUSED GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTION.

CALTRANS AND THE TRANSIT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCED TWO PUBLIC WORKSHOPS ON LOW CARBON TRANSIT OPTIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS TO EXISTING LOCAL AND INTERCITY TRANSIT OPERATIONS. THE WORKSHOPS ARE PART OF A BROAD-BASED STATE EFFORT TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GASES THROUGH TH CAP AND TRADE (CT) PROGRAM, AS PART OF AB32, CALIFORNIAS CLIMATE ACTION LAW. THE CT PROGRAM IS ONE OF MANY PROGRAMS DEVELOPED UNDER AB32 TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE. IT IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GASES FROM THE LARGEST SOURCES OF EMISSION IN CALIFORNIA, AND TO DRIVE INNOVATION AND STEER THE STATE TOWARD A CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY.

ROAD CLOSURE IN LAKEPORT (TR) JB 12/3/14

THERE IS A ROAD CLOSURE IN LAKEPORT THAT DRIVERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, HILL ROAD EAST IS CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC FROM JUST NORTH OF SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL TO LAKESHORE BOULEVARD DUE TO PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS. DETOURS AND SIGNS ARE IN PLACE ALERTING THE TRAVELING PUBLIC OF THE NEED TO USE ALTERNATIVE ROUTES. SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL IS STILL ACCESSIBLE ON HILL ROAD EAST AND CAN BE ACCESSED BY TAKING THE PARK WAY EXIT ON HIGHWAY 29 OR TAKING PARK WAY FROM LAKESHORE BOULEVARD.

WET WEATHER CONTINUES FOR THE COUNTY (EVR) JB 12/3/14

IF THE FORECASTS HOLD TRUE, LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES COULD SEE CONTINUED RAIN THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, INCREASING WET WEATHER PATTERNS COULD RESULT IN UP TO 2.5 INCHES OF RAIN IN LAKE COUNTY BY THE END OF THE WEEK. THE MUCH NEEDED RAIN AND SUBSEQUENT RUN OFF INTO THE STREAMS WILL HELP REVERSE FALLING LAKE LEVELS IN CLEAR LAKE AND LAKE MENDOCINO ONCE THE DROUGHT PARCHED GROUND BECOMES SATURATED. CURRENT FORECASTS SHOW CONTINUED RAIN THROUGH NEXT MONDAY, WITH A SLIGHT BREAK ON TUESDAY, WITH A NEW SERIES OF STORMS ARRIVING TOWARDS THE END OF NEXT WEEK.
