UKIAH MAY HIRE CONSULTANT TO HELP SET GOALS (GOV) JB 1/2/15

THE UKIAH CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER A PROPOSAL TO PAY A CONSULTANT TO HELP STAFF WITH SETTING GOALS FOR 2015.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THE CITYS FINANCE MANAGER HAS RECOMMENDED HIRING CONSULTANT FIRM, HSM, TO ASSIST THE COUNCIL AND STAFF IN ESTABLISHING PARAMETERS, PREPARING WORK PROGRAMS AND ENSURE THERE ARE MEASURABLE MILESTONES TO REVIEW PROGRESS OF GOALS. THE FINANCE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT HSM HAS AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND FOR PROVIDING THESE SERVICES AND RECOMMENDS HIRING THE FIRM FOR A FIXED-FEE CONTRACT OF $12,950 PLUS TRAVEL EXPENSES ESTIMATED TO BE $1,950 FOR TWO ON-SITE VISITS. THE CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER THE RECOMMENDATION AT NEXT WEDNESDAYS COUNCIL MEETING.

LOWER LAKE MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION (LAW) JB 1/2/15

ON MONDAY A LAKE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE SENTENCED A LOWER LAKE MAN TO STATE PRISON FOR MOLESTING A YOUNG GIRL.

ACCORDING TO THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE, 25 YEAR OLD PATRICK ALLEN WILLIAMS RECEIVED AN 8 YEAR SENTENCE STEMMING FROM THE MARCH 2013 INCIDENT IN WHICH HE ALLEGEDLY MOLESTED A 4 YEAR OLD GIRL. WILLIAMS WAS GIVEN THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE ALLOWED ON THE SINGLE COUNT OF LEWD ACT WITH A CHILD. BECAUSE THE CRIME IS CONSIDERED A VIOLENT FELONY, WILLIAMS WILL HAVE TO SERVE 85 PERCENT OF HIS SENTENCE BEFORE HE WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE AND HE WILL BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER.

CLEARLAKE CHASE LEADS TO MULTIPLE DRUG ARRESTS (LAW) JB 1/2/15

A CHASE THROUGH THE STREETS AND WOODED AREAS IN CLEARLAKE LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A MAN ON DRUG CHARGES.

CLEARLAKE POLICE ATTEMPTED TO CONDUCT A TRAFFIC STOP OF A MOTORCYCLE NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 8TH AND BUSH STREET IN CLEARLAKE PARK ON MONDAY. THE DRIVER, 29 YEAR OLD BERET BROWN, FLED AND LED OFFICERS ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE FOR SEVERAL MILES, TOPPING OUT AT 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE CHASE ENDED WHEN BROWN CRASHED THE MOTORCYCLE INTO A CULVERT AT THE INTERSECTION OF EVANS AND ALVITA AVENUES. BROWN WAS IN POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE, COCAINE, MARIJUANA AND HYPODERMIC NEEDLES AND HE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

5.1 QUAKE HITS IN OCEAN OFF FERNDALE (EVR) JB 1/2/15

A MAGNITUDE 5.1 EARTHQUAKE STRUCK IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN OFF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST ON THURSDAY.

THE U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY REPORTED THAT THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 4:16 THURSDAY MORNING AND WAS CENTERED OFF SHORE APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES WEST OF THE TOWN OF FERNDALE. A FERNDALE POLICE DISPATCHER SAID THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF INJURY OR DAMAGE FROM THE QUAKE AND THERE WAS NO TSUNAMI WARNING ISSUED. MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE WERE INJURED WHEN A 6.0 MAGNITUDE QUAKE STRUCK NEAR FERNDALE LAST AUGUST.

MILLVIEW WATER DISTRICT WINS, LOSES IN COURT (ECN) JB 1/2/15

THE MILLVIEW COUNTY WATER DISTRICT IN UKIAH HAS BOTH WON AND LOST SEVERAL COURT BATTLES LATELY OVER WATER DIVERSION.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT THE MILLVIEW COUNTY WATER DISTRICTS RIGHT TO DIVERT WATER FROM THE RUSSIAN RIVER WAS UPHELD BY AN APPELLATE COURT EARLIER IN 2014, BUT A MORATORIUM BLOCKING IT FROM ADDING NEW CUSTOMERS HAS YET TO BE LIFTED. THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH IMPOSED THE MORATORIUM IN 2001 BECAUSE IT DEEMED THE DISTRICT DID NOT HAVE A DEPENDABLE WATER SOURCE FOR ITS CUSTOMERS DURING A DROUGHT YEAR. CURRENTLY, MILLVIEW IS APPEALING A DECISION REVOKING A WATER RIGHT GIVEN TO IT BY THE MASONITE COMPANY, WITH THE APPEAL EXPECTED TO GO TO TRIAL IN JULY.

TWO MEN RESCUED WHEN BOAT CAPSIZES (LAW) JB 1/2/15

TWO MEN WERE RESCUED FROM THE WATER WHEN THEIR BOAT CAPSIZED ON CLEAR LAKE MONDAY.

FIREFIGHTERS FROM THE LAKE COUNTY AND NORTHSHORE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICTS AND THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE MARINE PATROL RESPONDED TO THE REPORT EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON OF TWO PEOPLE IN THE WATER. THE TWO MEN HAD GONE OUT IN A CANOE IN VERY CHOPPY CONDITIONS AND THE CANOE HAD FLIPPED OVER. THE TWO MEN WERE LOCATED ABOUT 300 TO 400 YARDS OFFSHORE OF GALAXY REPORT AND TRANSPORTED TO ST HELENA HOSPITAL CLEAR LAKE FOR TREATMENT OF HYPOTHERMIA.

CLEARLAKE COURTHOUSE DAMAGED BY GRAFFITI (LAW) JB 1/2/15

THE CLEARLAKE COURTHOUSE WAS DAMAGED BY GRAFFITI VANDALISM LAST WEEK.

THE LAKE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURTS SOUTHLAKE DIVISION COURTHOUSE, LOCATED ON SOUTH CENTER DRIVE IN CLEARLAKE, WAS REPORTEDLY TAGGED ON THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING AND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT ENTRANCE. SECURITY FOOTAGE OF THE INCIDENT HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO THE POLICE AND THE GRAFFITI APPEARS TO BE THE WORK OF MEMBERS OF THE NORTENOS STREET GANG. THE COST OF REMOVING ALL THE GRAFFITI FROM THE BUILDING IS ESTIMATED AT $3,300.

FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FOR FRIDAY (EVR) JB 1/2/15

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FREEZE WARNING FOR A LARGE SECTION OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

FREEZING TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S HAVE BEEN PREDICTED BY WEATHER FORECASTERS, PROMPTING THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TO ISSUE THE FREEZE WARNING AND URGING RESIDENTS IN THE AFFECTED AREAS TO TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO PROTECT ANIMALS AND ANY SENSITIVE VEGETATION. DRIVERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF POSSIBLE ICY PATCHES ON THE ROADWAYS AS WELL. THE FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT UNTIL FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH WARMER TEMPERATURES PREDICTED OVER THE WEEKEND.
